I don’t know if this is the same on Windows, but I go to the Text menu and 
choose “Insert symbol”. The dialogue box opens and I look for the symbol I 
want, then select it and hit Okay.

Hopefully not a silly question, but how can I include an ASCII extended 
character symbol in a text string? I'm not having much success.
