Many thanks to my knowledgable colleagues on this list for promptly offering

The Mac version used to show missing fonts as italicized and grayed out of
it was used by finale but no longer available on the machine. How you get
to see this is by editing the font of one of the missing items and see what
font it takes you to.

Re: [Finale] Missing Fonts

2018-09-12 Thread David H. Bailey
I'm not a Mac user, but one thought that comes to mind is to highlight
that box and then in the text menu change the font to one that you know
that you have. I don't know whether that will fix the problem but it's
what I would try first.

The next thing would be to run a data check -- under the Data Check
submenu on Windows and hopefully on Macs is a "Font Utilities" function
which allows you to do several things which might at least let you see
the text and change it to a font you like, even if not the original font.

One last word of advice to users of both Macs and Windows:
When you decide to upgrade to a new machine, as long as the old computer
is still working, copy the Fonts folder to an external drive. Then when
your new machine is set up, re-install all those fonts. I've got fonts
still on my system from a long time ago that I would have no idea where
to find the original files, but by copying the Fonts folder and then
reinstalling them on each new machine, I still have them available for
just such situations.

If the motherboard of the older machine is fried, you can probably
remove the hard drive that held the Fonts folder and put that in an
external housing and copy the Fonts folder from that onto the new
machine and then reinstall them from there.

You can run the Font Utilities command (Check document fonts against system
fonts, or something like that) and get each one by name.

[Finale] Missing Fonts

2018-09-12 Thread Lawrence David Eden
Dear Listers,

Finale 25 Mac

I recently asked about having missing fonts in a few of my arrangements that
were created with an earlier version of Finale. The missing fonts cause some
of my text blocks to appear as squares with question marks in the center.

How do I fix this issue, given that I don’t know which font is missing?

Thanks,
