Robert Patterson has kindly completely sorted this for me. His plugin solved it
without needing to redo anything.

Re: [Finale] Templates

2015-02-27 Thread Craig Parmerlee
Use MusicXML !!!

I haven't experienced losing items, but I had all sorts of HP problems
with an old template I had to use on a project.

I exported to MusicXML and re-imported into Finale 2014. (Actually I
think I did both export and import on 2014) That solved the problems.
Obviously there were some data structures in the .MUS file that Finale
2014 was not handling correctly, which I consider a bug, but the
MusicXML conversion gives you a clean start.

It isn't perfect. You will still have to go back and tweak some things
in your template, but I was surprised how close it got.

Re: [Finale] Templates

2015-02-26 Thread David Woodard
It happens with 2012 also, part of it appears to be a Windows 8 issue, I do
not see the same sub directories with saving and opening files. Have
wasted so much time trying to get IPA syllables in a Warm-up and after I
kinda get it right, the file either won't open or disappears.

Re: [Finale] Templates

2015-02-18 Thread Robert Patterson
I would recommend opening the templates in their original version and
running data check on them. Then open them in Fin14 and run data check on
them again. Save the result as a Fin14 template and see if you continue to
have the problem.

Re: [Finale] Templates

2015-02-18 Thread Steve Parker
Two things.
Firstly, the name of the score in score manager doesn't survive closing the
file.
Secondly, text boxes with inserts disappear when the file is closed and
re-opened.
I couldn't get further with tech support. These things didn't happen with new
files created from the wizard and they did happen with template-created files
from 2008 and 2012.
I would have thought that Finale would be interested in what was going on, but
it seemed not.
I'm not sure what could be up with the templates other than settings.
They can't all have corrupted in the same way overnight.
The work to start them all again is depressing.. There are some jobs that will
just not be worth the work.

the two times i needed to do this: 1) i started from scratch so did
it from the ground up; 2) i needed only some of the settings, and
kept some in the doc i was importing to so had no choice but to do it
one by one (certain libraries can be imported individually but
certain areas are only possible to export as a library in a bundle).

some stem connection settings are not imported in a stem connections library.

Recreating a template for a new version is a tortuous and torturous task.
Robert Patterson's Scrapbook Setting plugin just doesn't seem to work for
me, and I'm not sure it's comprehensive enough to completely recreate a
template with all one's refinements.

If someone came up with a plug-in that did this reliably, I'd pay good money
for it. I've requested this from the Finale developers, but they didn't
bite.

Don't document options save to libraries?

I get my line parameters and defined expressions, when I load my customized

One aspect not loaded to library is line thickness of smart shape lines.

document options i would think gets it all. if
upgrading then also programme options.

libraries:
- stem connections
- articulations
- text expressions
- ...

depending on how much of an overhaul you are doing.

i did this between 2012 and 2014, started with a
"new doc no libraries". was a big pain in the
ass, but also an opportunity to clean up my
working environment at the same time. i was
fortunate in being able to do it in a little bit
of downtime and not in the middle of a new
project with time constraints.

[Finale] Templates

2015-02-18 Thread Steve Parker
I have a small but time consuming problem with items disappearing.
Tech support have told me it is because I’m using a template made in a Finale
version before 2014 and that I should create new Templates in 2014.
Almost every setting is tweaked as well as a lot of carefully placed items, so
this seems an overwhelming job for every template that I use.

Is there any way of printing the settings or is there a file hidden somewhere
that I can raid for text of the templates’ settings?

Thanks,

Steve P.

The old Windows 95 machine wouldn't boot and the floppy drive appears dead as
well, not even turning.

So I have the entire first Finale box for Windows here, three volumes with
supplements, floppies, etc., but can't help you for now. I got an external
(USB) 3.5-inch drive for $15 a few months ago, but apparently there aren't any
external 5.25-inch drives to be had.

If something turns up, I'll try to extract those original templates.

In 2.6.3 you had to use EMEL macros for certain things that were not built
into the Finale UI. EMEL macros were the precursor to plugins.

I know you can change all of those things in 3.5.2 (as I look at my open

wowsers!

from the F2001 installation CD i was able to just drag the factory
default file off the disk to my desktop.

i'd like to have a range of defaults, but don't need them all. just
want to do a basic comparison of the same file using defaults from
different versions.

Hi Jef,

I have Mac install disks going back to 1.0 for most versions in the
pre-Maestro era, and a G3 laptop with a floppy drive. I guess I'd have to
do some sort of install to get to the templates, right? Not a ton of room
on the hard drive but maybe I could install just what you need. Are you
looking for templates from a particular version or just anything
pre-Maestro?

I have 2.1 Windows on 5-inch floppies, but nothing to read them. I still have
some 3.5-inch floppies that might have Finale 3.5 or 3.7 on them. I might have
an old Finale install with default files on my Win95 laptop, if I can get it

[Finale] (really) old finale templates

2014-06-12 Thread SN jef chippewa

does anyone have the default templates from older versions of finale?
i am particularly interested in the ones using petrucci (yuck!). i
started with 3.5.2 i think, but never kept any templates, since i
started building my own early on...

i still have installations discs (CD) back to F2001 (got "Maestro
Font Default" from that), so anything earlier would be appreciated.
i seem to remember 3.5.2 was floppies (wow!)...

[Finale] templates

2008-08-31 Thread trumpet57
Hi everyone---I've noticed that my jazz ensemble template is looking tiny and
this is after I've been careful about things like line thickness and other
tweaks. Everything looks very small and crowded. How do I make this template
maintain the settings I've given it?
Thanks in advance---Brian
