Dear Hiro, (and Darcy et al),
First, please understand that what you have written is barely understandable to me, not because of any fault of your English, but because you assume a familiarity with computer information and jargon on my part that is greater than I have. Nevertheless, I think I

I use M-Audio's FireWire Audiophile, which doubles as a MIDI interface.
You can see what it does here:

Hiro,
I understand you are using built-in, which buffer is hard-coded to 512.
If you employ external audio interface, you will gain control of larger
buffer that will help your cpu hit problem.
The maximum buffer size in GPO is 512. You cannot increase it beyond

Ahh, then you have no worry since your G5 doesn't have PCI-X and said
problematic AMD chipset :-)
I don't have GPO yet (will get it when jazz thing comes out), but in

Why would they do that?

Oooops. Sorry. You meant you can have it lower than 512 but not bigger?
If GPO doesn't allow buffer to be bigger than 512 then it
Hiro,
MAXIMUM buffer. MAXIMUM.
You can set it as low as you like.

Just got a new monitor arm for my 24 Samsung Syncmaster monitor which allows 90 degree rotation. Which ATI graphics card do I need in order to have the Versavision option (Mac OS X)? I see two different version of the ATI 9800 pro; one with 128 MB of RAM, and one with 256. Does it make a
Save some money and get a less expensive card that supports Vv. I picked
up a 8500 Pro Mac Edition new for about $120. That is AGP 4x. If you
have a G5 Powermac, I think your only option is the 9800 Pro Mac Special
Edition. See my tech tips faq (linked from website below) for more info.

Chuck,
All you need is the ATI Radeon 9200 Mac Edition, which is much cheaper
than the Radeon 9800 (a heavy-duty gaming card loaded with 3D
horsepower you don't need.) The Radeon 9200 is the card Robert
Patterson got.
Here are some vendors that have it:

Hi Chuck,
Well, I see I was mistaken -- Robert got the Radeon 8500, not the
Radeon 9800.
I would still suggest the Radeon 9200 because it's a PCI card, so you
can install it *in addition* to your the (very good) video card that
came with your G5. If you get an AGP card like the Radeon 8500,
I'm also not 100% sure the 8500 works with the G5's.
Actually, now that I think about it, I'm pretty sure the 8500 won't
work with your G5.
ATI makes two version of the Radeon 9800, one for G4s, and one for G5s.
This leads me to suspect that the 8x AGP bus in the G5 is not
compatible with
Hi Darcy and Robert,
This is just the information I hoped I'd get from you guys. Now I'll look for a Radeon 9200, have a happier bank account and still be able to get portrait mode. I am looking forward to that!
As my daughter would say, You guys are Awesome!
Thanks,
Chuck

Hey Chuck,
One last thing occurs to me -- what is the native resolution of your
Samsung display? You want to make sure it's supported by the ATI 9200,
which supports digital flat panel displays (via DVI) up to 1920x1200.
Some extremely large monitors (like Apple's 30 Cinema Display) have a
