Re: [Finale] Won't hide empty staves
I'll be more specific. I have a choral piece with a piano intro of 7 measures and I wish to hide the vocal staves for that system. Then the ladies sing alone for awhile, so I want to hide the men's stave on that system. I have highlighted that system and invoked Hide Empty Staves. All that happens is that the handles on the page blink off-on. Previously I had this page at 90% and everythign worked fine. At 85% it does not work. Strange also is that one empty stave is displaying in that piano intro system when there are two empty staves in play. In other words, it's hiding one of them, not the other. I tried converting to Show Empty Staves then starting over but it didn't work. One went away, one stayed. I did clear the empty measures...several times :) As for the handles, I see only one per stave (staff tool selected). Re: [Finale] Won't hide empty staves
Hi Richard sorry I should have been more specific. Usually when you have a bunch of staves showing you can select the staff tool, then select all (cmd-A) and right click on ANY of the handles and choose Hide empty staves and it will hide the staves. Yesterday I came across a file where selecting the contextual menu using the handle on the TOP stave in the group would work but none of the others would, trying to issue the Hide empty staves command from any other handle would fail. Or maybe there are certain conditions related to this that I'm not familiar with?! Well, I'll be d# The suggestion to change the document back to the last-known working percentage (90%) did not work. (But thanks for the reminder to consider that.) So, on a total I wonder... basis,I renamed the file, I exported it to xml, Imported it back to .mus, tried the hiding manuever at 90% and it worked, then tried it at 85% and it still worked! Apparently the export-import trick flushed out the bugs causing my problem. Sigh On Monday, August 4, 2014 12:34 PM, David H. Try bringing up the group attributes and make sure that When hiding empty staves is set to Hide normally. I had this same problem, and somehow Never hide was the selection. I had some similar behavior, and fixed it by saving a 2014 file as 2012 and editing it there. I'll port it back to 2014 if I have to.
