I get this all the time from one of my more anal retentive clients! So I just create the first one, get it the way I want it to look, and then copy to all other staves using Robert’s Mass Mover from Patterson plugins. It works great and fast. If you don’t own this plugin set, you should.

Wow, I didn’t realize this until I saw your message. I tried it and you are correct, a double barline does remove an auto word extension. I had to recreate the extension line manually. And if the extension spans two systems, and you manually created the extension, it will span the systems.

Sorry, KM is Mac only. You could go the the site, keyboardmaestro.com and send an email to Peter to see if he has any plans to port the app over to Windows. I do run W10 on a virtual machine and I have yet to find a comparable macro utility ala KM. Still looking tho.

You don’t say which version of Finale, or which platform. But it sounds like a Hide Empty Staves or Optimized staves situation. If you own TGTools you can fix it with Staff List Manager. I had a similar issue with staves not showing up in a file I’d been working on for a long time. There

You could create a new 8va Smart Shape and change the continuation setting for them. But then you would have to replace all of them manually. Not fun if there’s many of them. I thought one could edit the default appearance to these, but I just checked and couldn’t find a way in. I would try

I’ve done this occasionally, and the only way I’ve been able to achieve it is my creating a measure expression and placing it in the file. If it’s a score with multiple staves, use an expression set for All Staves. It’s a bit of a kludge, but it does work. *** J D
