Friday, December 5, 2008    Marketing School for Growers - Class 2 of 3
8:30 AM - 2:00 PM. Cornell Cooperative Extension of Ontario County is
hosting an in-depth "Marketing School for Growers" for part-time and
full-time farmers who are looking to expand sales of retail and wholesale
farm products, such as fresh produce, meats, herbs, horticulture crops,
maple syrup, and processed goods.
The second of three courses will be held Friday, December 5, 2008 with the
following guest speakers:
- Connecting with the urban customer - Brian Nicholson, Red Jacket Orchards
- Selling products to restaurants and chefs - Art Rogers, Lento Restaurant
- Updates and current initiatives from the Pride of New York program -
Sue Santamarina, NYS Agrculture and Markets.

The third course will be on Friday, January 16, 2009 in Canandaigua, NY. A

HORTICULTURE

December 4: 6:00pm until 8:00pm Boxwood Centerpiece class at Hammondsport
Library with Tom Cortright. Participants will create a tabletop tree from
boxwood cuttings and can take it home to enjoy for the holidays or give as a
gift. $15 each. Please call 607-664-2300 to register or for more

On December 6th, Cornell Cooperative Extension is presenting our Holiday
Expo from 9:00am until 1:00pm. Participants can sign up for 1 or 3 classes.

Each class is $10.

9:15-10:15 Participants can either sign up for Soap Making or Wreath Making
10:30-11:30 Participants can either sign up for Soap Making or Wreath Making

11:45 - 12:45 Participants can either sing up for Gingerbread House Making

December 8: is the Introduction to High Tunnel Greenhouse Workshop. Cornell
Cooperative Extension will host this workshop at the Woodhull Community
Center located at 1585 Academy Street Woodhull, NY from 1:00 pm until 3:00
pm. Judson Reid, Extension Associate with Cornell Cooperative Extension,
will provide an overview of fruit and vegetable production in high tunnels,
insect and disease management, and the economics of high tunnel
production. Nelson Hoover, a grower in Yates County who has hands-on
experience transitioning to high tunnel production, and also fabricates and
sells high tunnel structures, will discuss the design and construction of
high tunnel greenhouses. Pre-registration is appreciated, but not required.

NATURAL RESOURCES

Thursday December 4th at 7PM. "New Insects Threaten Extinction of Native
Trees".  Join us at the Schuyler County Human Services Complex Auditorium at
323 Owego St in Montour Falls.  Learn more about the Hemlock Wooly Adelgid,
Emerald Ash Borer, Asian Longhorn Beetle and other invasive forest pests
that pose an unprecedented threat to our forests.  Dr. Jerry Carlson of the
DEC will present the latest information on these pests, and what you can do
to help.  The meeting is free of charge, and refreshments will be served.

Helping Farmers Produce More from Their Woodlots Got Trees? The New York
Forest Owners Association, New York State Department of Environmental
Conservation, Cornell Cooperative Extension, and SUNY College of
Environmental Science and Forestry will present a series of free forestry
programs. The New York Farm Show is annually held at the State Fairgrounds
in Syracuse. The Farm Show has many exhibits displaying information,
equipment, and items of interest to landowners as well as farmers.
Landowners who own woodland as part of their property can get information on
many subjects that will help them enhance the value of their woodlots for
