You don't need to do "cd /" if you have "rm -rf /sw" instead of "rm
-rf sw" (and it's safer not to).
Also, try the following:
sudo apt-get remove passwd anacron daemonic

I originally used fink to install postgresql database.
For whatever reason, that I didn't investigate much, it never really
worked 100%.
There are other things I need to install today that fink doesn't
offer (ruby stuff mainly) and so I have done it from source.
My question is, at this point

That should be in the faq, and it is:

Basically remove /sw, remove X if you have to, and remove the "source

Is there a clean way to uninstall Fink and everything that it's
installed? I'm finding that it's doing just a few too many funny
things to my environment.

That would do it.
Before you uninstall fink, there may be a simple solution to your
problem: try opening a new Terminal window, to make sure your new
.cshrc file (you did make one, right?) gets read.

How does one uninstall Fink? Can I simply remove the /sw directory?
I made it to step 6. of the "Bootstrapping Fink under Mac OS X 10.2"
instructions
The command "fink selfupdate-cvs" does not work as fink cannot be found.

Yes, this used to come up a lot. It is GNU install-info speaking
I'll put this on the list, too, in case someone's got additional insight.
Let's start with Error 1: install-info complaining.
What do you get from doing a 'which install-info'?

Associate Research Scientist,
If I tell Fink:
fink uninstall sawfish
(or is it 'fink remove'?)
Will Fink get rid of EVERYTHING that got installed with the Sawfish install,
including Users that got created? (by "get rid of" I mean make into free
disk space)
If not, how would I go about such a removal?
What's happened is that
I installed fileutils yesterday, and I'm having trouble getting the
colors to show up properly for ls. Would uninstalling and then
reinstalling fileutils help? Since I used apt-get to install
fileutils, do I have to use apt-get to uninstall or could I use the
fink command to uninstall?
Thanks
There may be a dependency problem that dselect can't deal with.
Try using the command-line uninstall instead--it will give you more info.
Just type 'fink remove ', where is the name of the
package you want to remove. You can try to do multiple packages at the same
time, but I'd suggest one at a

If you are asking about the ability to uninstall packages are not installed
