I created a new version of scripts to build a binary distribution for fink. They can be found in the cvs module scripts/bindist in the branch 'remis-bindist'. I believe that these scripts ease the creation of binary distributions considerably. A private binary distribution for the 10.3/stable tree was built over the last weeks using these scripts. It is very easy to keep this binary distribution in sync with the packages added to the stable tree. This opens a path to create binaries for all packages added to the stable tree automatically.
A detailed documentation about the scripts can be found in the README and HOWTO files found in the scripts/bindist directory. I'm eager to hear any feedback about the scripts and documentation. I would like to merge the branch with the HEAD of the scripts directory soon. The scripts relay on certain Fink features only available in the HEAD version.
I'm happy to help making a more regular binary distribution reality. However, I do not have the infrastructure at home to build a binary distribution regularly. Therefore I'm looking for anybody who could provide decent computers running either Mac OS X 10.2 or 10.3, which can be used as build machines. These computers must have fink installed, but they must not relay on any installed fink package as these are removed during the binary distribution build process. A moderately fast uplink is needed to upload the binary distribution to the sourceforge.net site. These machines should be reasonably save in order not to compromise a binary distribution. In addition the binary distribution manager (me or somebody else) need to have administrator privileges on these computers.
Cheers,
Remi
