Just to clarify this further, fink generally executes things in the sequence
fink build foo
dpkg -i foo
fink build bar
dpkg -i bar
The only exception is when bar is a splitoff of foo; then fink is supposed to
fink build foo
dpkg -i foo bar

Why do you only sometimes do a -x test for xfontpath before calling
it? If it's not present but XftXConfig is, this script will crash. I
don't know much about xfontpath, but it appears that its presence
affects the installation footprint of gimp-fr
