[Fink-devel] Amaya 8.2 - stable? (+ new maintainer)

2004-04-15 Thread Damian Steer
Hi,

Positive feedback has trickled in about the amaya 8.2 package, so I
guess it isn't wiping disks. Could it be added to stable now?

Also a member of the amaya dev team will be taking over maintenance of
the package, which will hopefully alleviate the need for weird patches
and hacks.

Damian

From my experience, any commands in ~/.xinitrc affect the entire X session.
This is what my .xinitrc looks like:

You'd hope it would work like that, but (AFAICT) the quartz-wm
doesn't. The best solution I found was using
$HOME/.MacOSX/environment.plist, and setting the path there, eg:

?xml version=1.0 encoding=UTF-8?
!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC -//Apple Computer//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN
http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd;
plist version=1.0
dict
keyPATH/key
string/sw/bin:/sw/sbin:/bin:/sbin:/usr/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/X11R6/bin/string
/dict
/plist

This was with the first release. Maybe it changed.

With an eye towards constructing an automated build system for the binary
distribution one of these days, I'd like to propose a new field for fink
 .info files:

 BinaryDistribution: True/False or Yes/No

This field would only be consulted if the package is labeled

 License: Restrictive

and in that case, it would indicate whether or not the package should be
 part of the binary distribution.

Right now, this has to be done by hand and it is one of the things obstructing
 automation.

 Comments?

Very minor nitpick: How about BinaryDistributionAllowed or Permitted?
It's a little vague without explanation (eg it might mean 'exists').

[Fink-devel] Anyone recognise Gdk-ERROR: **: 86?

2003-01-15 Thread Damian Steer

Hi,

I've been packaging Amaya 7.1. It _did_ work, but then I had to make
some changes to get it compiling as a fink package. However now it
dies immediately with:

Gdk-WARNING **: locale not supported by C library
Gdk-ERROR **: 86
  serial 97 error_code 86 request_code 51 minor_code 0

Naturally I haven't got the working non-fink version around. Doh.

Anyway, anyone know a possible cause? It's not very informative.

TIA,

Hi,

Perhaps I've been doing something wrong, but environment variables
(specifically the problem has been PATH) set in .xinitrc don't seem to
get inherited by apps started by the Application menu in quartz-wm. Am
I alone here?

I assume that they're not child processes of the wm, so I've added
the fink path(s) to ~/.MacOSX/environment.plist which solves the
problem.

Hope I'm not an idiot and that this helps some people,

 Ideas?

One is to use Console.app and go to its preferences, then active the
crash reporter. Once something crashes, a crashreport (including stack
trace will be created, and, if you checekd the option, Console.app
will launch to show it to you.

 Or you can use gdb:

 gdb APPNAME

then, in gdb, just type run (or run OPTIONA OPTIONB if you need to
pass parameters to the programm). Once it crashes, you will drop back
into gdb. Type bt to get a BackTrace of the stack.

This is the problem. Nothing seems to think that it /is/ a crash. gdb
says 'no backtrace', and crash report is very quiet, too. Hmm.

I enabled ktrace (thanks to the person who told me where the kernel
source was) but there is a good reason for it's being disabled - it
causes a kernel panic :-)

Thanks for the help,

Ruby has a bug - or (more accurately) Darwin has a bug which affects

See:

for a description, and a fix which worked for me (on 1.6.7). The
Darwin bug database has a report (rlimit is broken, it appears):

but note creepy No resources to fix this for future release. at the

Could the fix be added to the patch?

[Fink-devel] Newbie with amaya-gtk package

2002-01-28 Thread Damian Steer

Hi all,

I'm new to this list and I don't really know the system for
submissions. Apologies in advance.

I think I've got a working fink package for the latest version of
Amaya - w3c development browser. The package and patch are
attached. The details of the port are in the package - suffice is to
say that it was pretty easy.

Issues:

1) It doesn't seem to build if libwww is installed. This is wierd
because amaya uses libwww (it comes with its own copy, as well as
libjpeg and libpng IIRC). Seems perverse. I'll ask the amaya
developers about this, but it might have to be a build-conflict.

2) Why gtk? Well it works, but gtk support is experimental. It prefers
motif/lesstif (and the amaya team have fixed the configure to check
for fink lesstif) but it seems to die with Error: attempt to add
non-widget child DropSiteManager to parent appli which supports
only widgets. Can anyone else confirm that?

3) The build is a little hacky. Amaya likes to contain everything in
an Amaya directory, then link the executable from bin. That would
result in /sw/Amaya - I've fixed it to go in /sw/share/Amaya (with the
link corrected). Hope that's ok.

This was done on MacOS X 10.1.2, with fink from cvs.

Description:W3C's Editor/Browser
DescDetail:
Amaya is a complete web browsing and authoring
environment and comes equipped with a WYSIWYG style
of interface, similar to that of the most popular commercial
browsers. With such an interface, users can easily generate
HTML and XHTML pages, as well as CSS style sheets, MathML
expressions, and SVG drawings (full support of SVG is not yet
available, though).
Amaya includes a collaborative annotation application based
on Resource Description Framework (RDF), XLink, and
XPointer.

DescPackaging:
Patches the configure script to stop it checking for appkit
(bad amaya) and adds -I/sw/include to the gtk part of
Options.in so it finds imlib (this is probably bad).
Slight hack to make Amaya install in /sw/share/Amaya with
link from /sw/bin/amaya to amaya excutable. (Default would
have /sw/Amaya, which isn't pretty).
