Hi. As part of my efforts to get mono working on Mac
OS X I need to install compress-zlib-pm581 to meet a
dependency. Unfortunately this always fails. The
output follows:
fink install compress-zlib-pm581

Hello Alexander and Gecko,
I think I realized what my problem was. I had tried to do this in my
.profile file previously, but I now recall that these different files are
read in order, and instructions taken from the first one read.
It finally worked when I changed both the .profile and the
Thanks to everybody who pointed me in the right direction. I'm
embarrassed that the answer was in the faq since that was the first
place I looked for possible solutions.

I put a new release of PostgreSQL in unstable, 7.3.7, and 7.4.5. I
think it's finally ready for stable, it's looking pretty solid, so
please, if you install it and have any luck (or no luck) with it, let me
know.
Thanks!

Hi there,
I'd like to use my abook adressbook on Darwin, too, but it seems there
is no abook port in fink anymore.
So I just tried to install abook from sources using the fink includes
and libraries.
But when I execute ./configure --includedir=/sw/include/ --libdir=/sw/lib
I get this error:

Why on earth should I install gcc 3.1, when I have
gcc3.3? Especially since I am using OSX10.3, which
uses 3.3 by default and I have no interest in
compiling for 10.2.
This has nothing to do with 10.2. There are some programs that do not
compile correctly with gcc-3.3. They need to

The strange thing about the first error, though, is

Understandable, but then shouldn't pwlib have that as
a build dependency? Note that pwlib 1.5.2-12 seems to
have built and installed on my system just fine. So I
think that fink should be able to handle the
situation, even if it means some of my packages get
held back because they depend on the
Let's see. These are all of the limits.h files on my

Running the following command:
grep INT_MAX `locate limits.h`
Every file that defines INT_MAX eventually defines
it as a number through #ifndef clauses or directly.
So, I guess it's just a gcc preprocessor
incompatibility, and should have a build depend or
something.
This is hard

I have not had gcc3.1 on my system since the xtools 1.2 upgrade, so
when I read the discussion that the problem was a lack of this compiler
version, I reinstalled it from the xtools 1.5 upgrade, and pwlib
compiled with no problem.
