I have had some problems like the one I saw recently on the list with
xaw3d. I had to recompile Xemacs, which was crashing on startup, just
after it was initializing x-symbol, and while fontifying the (only) open
buffer Scratch.
I had to downgrade to xaw3d 1.5-8 first (recompiling did not
|lXaw3d15e|lXaw3d|g'

I have put a xfig.info file with this into my experimental directory
on CVS. The patch should be done by adding two lines to the xfig.patch
file rather than with a patchscript, but I'll leave this to the xfig
maintainer.

That was it: GEANT4 requires findutils that was not installed in my
system, and thus the build was using /usr/bin/xargs. findutils should be
added to the dependencies.

Thanks for the hint. I was really getting desesperate to understand what
was going on, and I would never have guessed any software developper
could be that slopy. Obviously it does not tell it is installing over
the apple version!

What gives 'fink list root3'? I guess that somehow your package
database thinks, that root3 is installed, but it isn't (anymore). Try
'fink reinstall root3' or whatever flavour of root3 you'd like.
