Actually a while after sending this I found either the solution or a work around I'm not sure which it is yet. I ran apt-get -f install then apt-get dselect-upgrade and found that the problem got worse so apt-get update, apt-get -f install and the apt-get dist-upgrade anf not dselect-upgrade an
