Okay, I have a really long compile going on and I'm wondering what will happen if I close the lid of my ibook.
As many people has said, the compiling process resumes without problem. so you can just close the lid.
If you dared iBook not to sleep whose lid is closed by some means or if the iBook accidentally cannot sleep(*), there might be a possibility of causing hardware damage of iBook.
Laptop PCs are designed to release heat from the keyboard surface, as well as from the bottom and by the forced convection by a fan. Closing a lid disturbs heat release from the keyboard. Compiling work makes iBook run with full CPU power, resulting higher heat from CPU.
So, it is very risky to compile while closing lid of laptops.
(*) Some people around me has experienced that iBook cannot sleep even
with closed lid. This occurs often after the RAM or AirPort Card
installation. The actual cause was that the keyborad has not been properly
settled back by himself/herself, and some key(s) are pressed by the lid.
