Hello!
In Mac OS X 10.5.8, PPC, I use the command
fink -v cleanup --dpkg-status --obsolete-packages --debs
to get rid of most (I want to keep the sources until I delete them
manually). I can understand that some DEB files are not deleted, as in
this example:

This is from using the fink cvs to bootstrap install x86_64 fink on 10.6.
I don't see a clear link on the http://finkproject.org/ home page
as to the current recommendations for installing fink on Snow Leopard.

Since a while, most likely since fink 0.29.10, "fink cleanup --debs"
or "fink cleanup --all" does no longer clean up deb packages. I have

Hi Dan and Peter,
Thank your VERY much for the fast answers!
Dan, you're right, I was (apparently) wrongly assuming that deb and
src files would be removed with cleanup --all, well mostly because
once the package is installed and working, you don't really need the
package any more. I will

Dear list,
I have been using fink for a few years now, performing the occasional
self-update and update of packages when needed. Once in a while,
something in the installation process wouldn't work, but most of the
time I found workaround and it is all good in the best possible world.

Hello,
One nice surprise when starting to use Fink in Leopard is that, finally,
used deb packages are deleted by "fink cleanup". No longer wasting hundreds
of Mo for nothing...
Unfortunately, Fink's website main page annouces that this behavior will be
removed in next revision.

You've found the way I had hoped fink would accomplish what you
wanted. Why it isn't...dunno...I don't know much about apt-get and was
just basing it on the manpage. Try playing with the apt-get directly
(it's got a pretty detailed manpage) to see if you can get it to do
this type of cleanup. Then
Did I really baffle everyone with this question?? Or did I
somehow miss an answer posted to the list?
I build from source on my server, and install the debs on
several clients. On my TiBook I'd like to keep just the
latest debs (I'm running out of space...). It looks like

wow very good debuging, and i could see that happening, though I haven't
seen the cleanup source yet so i'll let Max answer this. But good work.

ah yes, now i found it. i was complaining (well, not really, just
mentioning) that fink cleanup has deleted some of my recent .deb's some
days ago. here's the scenario:

Hmm, that's strange - I believe I have the latest cvs. Here's my terminal

"fink cleanup" removes obsolete .deb
Hi,
In FinkCommander, I noticed a command 'fink cleanup'. However, it does
nothing. Is this something special for FinkCommander, or is it part of a
future fink release (I have 0.9.12).
