I upgraded teTeX from 2.0.2 to 3.0 without a single problem. Not one. Well, except that my ISP is flaky enough to make downloading 87MB files way more trouble than it ought to be, but that's hardly fink's fault. I did have to run texconfig-sys, after a trip to the man pages when texconfig kept making local changes instead of system wide changes. OTOH, there is a man page, and a plain old "man texconfig" found it, and it answered my question, and the solution it described worked as it was described.
