found to help... I was having the same problem (blank char/varchar fields) -
unfortunately using a linked server wasn't an option for me as you can't use
32bit drivers (like the old ODBC driver) for linked servers on 6

Recently I have to add a fuzzy lookup to my package, and there is a bug
running fuzzy lookup transformation in 32bit mode not resolved at this time

OK, that´s a ODBC 2.0 RC2 bug.
I´ll do it with old ODBC 1.2 (and I´ll run pakage in 32 bits mode!!)
