This is my first post to this list - so my apologies if I get it wrong.
I am looking for arguments for/against the concept of information as "form
conveyed by data". Any references/ideas would be appreciated.

ivity from Shannon type
communication to biological (DNA) activity, but I am not sure it can be
applied to chemical activity.
To my "un-informed" way of thinking chemical interaction is more like (a) -
a passive response - rather than a selective active response as in (b).

On
List,
Please allow me to respond to Loet about the definition of information
stated below.
1. the definition of information as uncertainty is counter-intuitive
("bizarre"); (p. 27)
I agree. I struggled with this definition for a long time before realising
that Shannon was really discussing "a
that makes us believe that we are capable of direct perception.
Once this is done we can create a set of integrated models that link neural
activity to information theory and a new representational language theory
that is very similar to Shannon information theory.

useful for many
purposes, but we must recognise that each component of this duality is an
abstraction of an integrated substrate. On this approach, we confuse
ourselves when we create a duality and then impose it on what it represents.
