get real, Flash HTML tag support is way too weak to display any even most

2006/3/8, Johannes Boyne [EMAIL PROTECTED]:

 But do you really want ActiveX in your Flash?! I think, it isn't in a
 SandBox like Flash or Java, so it is dangerous, right? And there, from
 my point of view, is the rub.
 And maybe some users don't like this security hole.
 And then they ask: Hey man why I must use ActiveX...? And that is a
 legitimate question.

 But JesterXL is right, Zinc lets you embed this control, and if you ask
 me 80% of the usere have not the faintest idea what a SandBox is. ;-)
 So I would do it like JesterXL has said it. =)

Re: [Flashcoders] RE: getDepth: highest depth, middle depth, lowest depth

2006-03-09 Thread Flash Mel
Thanks guys! I was reading the archives about the DepthManager class
and peeked into the recent z ordering thread for some useful info.

My one problem that I am running in to is that for whatever reason, my
boss is telling me I am not allowed to use Flash 8 for this project.
They want it published in Flash 6. From what I was reading the new
DepthManager class only works with Flash 8.

I'll post more code snippets when I get in to work. Thanks again for
the responses!

 I've found very little info on the DepthManager class. afaik, you need
 to increment the kTop property when you use it:

 var new_mc = myMovie.createObject(__rowRenderer, new_mc,
 DepthManager.kTop++, {owner:this, styleName:this});

 At the same time I find it useful to get the next highest depth of the
 movieclip I want to be over. This next statement adds the movieclip to
 myMovie at myMovies's next highest depth. So if myMovie has one other
 object on it at depth 1 then myMovie.getNextHighestDepth() returns 2.
 var new_mc = myMovie.createObject(__rowRenderer, new_mc,
 myMovie.getNextHighestDepth(), {owner:this, styleName:this});

 I've had problems using _root.getNextHighestDepth() in a class. It stops
 at a certain number and any new movieclips replace the movie that is at
 the same depth.

 if createObject is not available (for use mostly with components) use
 attachMovie in it's place...

  Hey Mel,

  Take a look at the DepthManager. You can use it for exactly what you
  are trying to do. The catch is that you have to instantiate the
  MovieClips you want to use via actionscript with the DepthManager
  functions. Remember to do this because the DepthManager needs to
  keep track of all elements you want to sort. Then all you have to do
  is use the constants DepthManage.kTop, DepthManage.kBottom, etc. The
  manager sorts its children instances using these constants by putting
  each call to kTop in depth 201 and then moving the rest down
  sequentially (actually vice versa).

  Hope this helps,

  Hello,

  I have another question for the group:

  I was using this...

  for (var i in this) {
  if (typeof (this[i]) == movieclip) {
  trace(movie clip '+this[i]._name+' is at depth
  +this[i].getDepth()*-1);
  }
  }

  ...to discover the depth of the movieclips I have on the stage.

  Then I wrote this...

  postcard_amt = [1, 2, 3];
  for (i=0; ipostcard_amt.length; i++) {
  postcard_itm = postcard+i+_mc;
  _root[postcard_itm].onPress = function(){
  trace(this.getDepth());
  }
  }

  ...to specifially single out the _mc's I wanted.
  Not sure if that is the best way to write it, but that's not my
  question
  (althought I am open to more efficient ways).

  /*

  My question:
  What is the best approach to finding the highest depth, the middle
  depth and
  the lowest depth?

  */

  Backstory:
  Ideally, what I will be doing is swapDepths() with these _mc's and
  reshuffling them accordingly.

  if original state is...

  1
  2
  3

  ...onEvent...

  2
  3
  1

  ...then another Event...

  3
  1
  2

  ...and so on.

If you are going to work with strings as you mentioned thats actualy much
slower than simply loop through array and multiply by 3 each element (of
course store extra number which is carried over in the same loop). In your
case it would require at least two passes and in this case only one.

(I'm not doing this, by the way, it's just theoretical, although now I kind
of want to...)

I wouldn't work with strings, I'd do it with an array of integers as I
said - the binary integers in the example were just to show what I meant.
Multiplying each element by 3 is fine, but it was just an example: the point
of the method is to be able to deal with arbitrarily large numbers, even
those larger than 32 bits in size. In any case, the key point is that 'long
multiplication' is a much cleaner operation in binary than it is in decimal.

[Flashcoders] Hiding methods from the compiler

I'm writing my own place holder components for zinc (browser, ActiveX,

Eg.

Everything's fine but the compiler moans everytime that there's no such

For Zinc, define in main class:

Latest version of SWF Studio comes with intrinsic classes that you can

[Flashcoders] Masking Movieclips with BitmapData

2006-03-09 Thread Karim Beyrouti
Hi All,

I am trying to mask an object on stage with a bitmapData Object that was
generated from a movieclip. I am hopeing that this will enable me to use
strokes to mask object.. Anyway, I've found an example online that will help
me clone a movieclip, to a bitmap, and managed to keep the transparency of
the original moviclip.. But not sure how to mask an MC with that...

I've uploaded an example online if it helps:
http://www.kurst.co.uk/transfer/copyPixels.fla

Here is the code:

AS

_root.createEmptyMovieClip( container2, 2 );

container2._x = 170;

bitmapData1 = new flash.display.BitmapData( 160, 120, true, 0x00 );
bitmapData2 = new flash.display.BitmapData( 160, 120, true, 0x33 );

container2.attachBitmap( bitmapData2, 2 ); bitmapData1.draw( container1 );
// container 1 is on stage

var rect1 = new flash.geom.Rectangle( 0, 0, 160, 120 ); var rect2 = new
flash.geom.Rectangle( 0, 0, 160, 120 );

bitmapData2.copyPixels( bitmapData1, rect1, rect2 );

toMask_mc.setMask( container2 );// this does not work...

/AS

Re: [Flashcoders] dynamically naming sound objects?

2006-03-09 Thread Marc Hoffman
What makes you think they're not being created? Have you traced the
array? More likely, the paths to the mp3's are wrong, in which case
testing from the Flash API you'd get output errors indicating the
file could not be found/loaded.

FYI, sound objects are just code objects created in ActionScript,
not external assets. To be clearer, your post should be referring to
sound files or mp3 files.

[Flashcoders] Can't reference a library font from inside a static class (?)

2006-03-09 Thread Merrill, Jason
OK - been stuck on this for too long now, need some help. There is
something I am not understanding about Classes, embedding fonts and
TextFormat(). The basic problem is embedding font in a class definition
is not working like it does with a timeline frame script. Is this a bug
or feature of Flash?

If I do the following directly on _level0, it works fine:

var my_fmt:TextFormat = new TextFormat();
my_fmt.font = Swis;
my_fmt.color = 0x00;
my_fmt.size = 16;
this.createTextField(tf_txt,0,20,20,200,20);
tf_txt.embedFonts = true; //works great as expected
tf_txt.text=Hello world;
tf_txt.setTextFormat(my_fmt);

It works fine as a frame script, the font gets embedded perfectly (the
font is a library font with the exported linked name being Swis).
However, this does not work in a static class UNLESS I take out the line
to embed the font:

(Note: this is purposefully not pretty and dynamic - I just want a
simple text field, so values are hard coded for now)

class com.icfconsulting.objects.SimpleTextField{
public static function create(target_mc:MovieClip):TextField{
//(Note:I just want a simple text field, so values are hard coded for
now)
var my_fmt:TextFormat = new TextFormat();
my_fmt.font = Swis;
my_fmt.color = 0x00;
my_fmt.size = 16;
target_mc.createTextField(tf_txt,0,20,20,200,20);
target_mc.tf_txt.embedFonts = true;
//the above line breaks it ONLY when inside this class - if I remove,
works fine
//but no embedding and of course the default font appears instead.
target_mc.tf_txt.text=Hello world;
target_mc.tf_txt.setTextFormat(my_fmt);
return target_mc.tf_txt;
}
}

And then call it:

import com.icfconsulting.objects.SimpleTextField;
tf=SimpleTextField.create(this)

It ONLY works in the class if I don't embed the font (if I comment out
the line: my_fmt.font = Swis') but of course I want to embed the font.
If I put the same script on the main timeline and substitute the class
constructor argument target_mc for this meaning _level0, then it
works fine and the font get embedded.

Any clues on what's going on? Can you not reference a font in the
library from inside a static class?

RE: [Flashcoders] Assign instance names with JSFL

2006-03-09 Thread Brooks Andrus
From the docs:

fl.getDocumentDOM().getTimeline().layers[0].frames[0].elements[0].name =
clip_mc;

First you have to add the item to the stage. Then, grab a reference to the
timeline object and select the MovieClip by walking the layers / frames /
elements array.

In the past I've locked all layers, created a new layer, added the item from
the library and then done a selectAll.

I can't remember if the item is actually selected automatically when you add
it to the stage from the library. If it is then just use the reference you
already have.

Hope this helps,

Brooks

[Flashcoders] Help with BitmapData - BitmapDataManager

2006-03-09 Thread Ramon Miguel M. Tayag
Hey guys,

I quickly whipped something up before. It's called the BitmapDataManager.

It's a class that allows a movieclip to stay as a bitmap so that it's
easier to animate complex vector data.
For more info read http://www.flashkit.com/board/showthread.php?t=659163

This is where I need help: right now, scaling the movieclip that will
be rasterized and then rasterizing it doesn't work. It still takes a
snapshot, but it does like as if it were still its orig size. It's
hard to explain. Look at the fla. :)

Here's the source:
http://share.quirkworks.net/net-BitmapDataManager.rar

Here's the class implemented with the examples I'm talking about:
http://share.quirkworks.net/bdm_test.fla

Yup, you need Flash 8.

I'm sure I could just edit the Matrix or something like that and input
the scaled size so that it takes the correct snapshot, but I can't
seem to figure it out.
