Does 30-55K a year sound right with benefits for a junior developer? I have
a college degree and an extensive IT background but, I'm just now getting
into a professional job environment developing but, I have been using flash

should they start at?

[Flashcoders] transparent background in Projector (Screenweaver)

2006-06-26 Thread franto

Hi all,

i've made projector (walking insect) with transparent background, and it's
killing all my CPU. there is 3 pieces of them, i've tried just 3 squares
and it is the same, i can see on my comp redrawing sprites and have 50% CPU
(dual processor, 2 GHZ) on other computers, redrawing is not visible, but
100% CPU (or 50% for dual)

I think the problem is creating dynamic mask (flash with desktop), but I
dont know how to fix it.
Should I use other projector then Screenweaver?

Btw, i found same problem with some GameHouse game, when it was in
fullscreen, all was right, but when i switch off fullscreen
and game was in transparent rectangle (desktop was visible outside the
game), mouse was flickering, CPU full, i almost cant do anything
but another games was ok after switching off fullscreen, so this can be
problem with some settings maybe...
i dont know, maybe some games was Shockwave, some Flash, really dont know,
but I think 3 movings squares on desktop should not
take 100% CPU

Can someone advice me, what's is the problem?

Thanks many time...

[Flashcoders] HELP : File Access in FLASH

2006-06-26 Thread julian atienza

Hi everybody.

I know that subject appears in a lot of messages in forum, but i have
a related problem.

I'm finishing one project. Only SAVE/LOAD Operations and another
issues like Full-Screen with a fixed resolution to 1024zx768 are
pending.

This project is one complex kiosk-type application for MAC osX and
Windows (Both systems)

Now i have to buy one third party app like mdm zinc or mProjector.

mProjector - it appears to be old fashioned. F.e. the screen
resolution - it only let me 800x600.

Zinc - it appears like a bug-montain-code-software. I'm using last
version in trial mode and things like opening a Dialog box for choose
a file contains a bug (press cancel button and crashes). Forum of MDM
is one kind of hell and somebody said that this bug was fixed in new
version and it's not true. People in forum are lost and ask for
questions with weak answers.

And it's strange... my app is created with multiple swf's loaded in
several levels... where i have to put the mdminit() command ? in every
swf? and more: why when i compile swf that uses mdm sentences it
compiles with error? :'( i will cry!

I'm desperate. What i have to do? some ideas?

RE: [Flashcoders] HELP : File Access in FLASH

2006-06-26 Thread Jim Tann
1: Take a look at SWFStudio as an alternative projector creation
software.

www.northcode.com

2: As for the different levels. Using levels makes the flash player
treat each movie in a different level as separate movies. They cannot
access each others libraries or code. I had to use levels as a
workaround in the past for using assets in the libraries of dynamically
loaded swf's but this led to more issues. Best thing is to not use
levels for loading movies if you need to share assets from loaded
libraries (I am assuming this is why you are using levels) you should
look into using shared libraries.

If you import one movieclip from a shared library into the host library
 include that shared movieclip on the timeline it will force all other
available assets in that library to become available in the host movie.

3: are you including the path to the mdm intrinsic classes in the
publish settings for your movie? The only reason I can think that the
movie will not compile on the lines you use the mdm classes is that It
cannot see them.

Screenweaver HX is still at Beta stage (http://haxe.org/swhx) but might
be enough for what you need to do. There is not yet fullscreen support

Hi,

why when i compile swf that uses mdm sentences it
compiles with error? :'( i will cry!

Try following the instructions on this forum post:
http://www.mdmforum.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=11941

It shows you how to install the mdm class package - this should get rid of
any compilation errors from mdm code.

For whatever reason Zinc doesn't install these classes to your classpath as
part of its own install - so your compiler will naturally complain.
Hopefully that'll stop some of the tears :)

The highly important and common feature for Forums is the ability to paste
HTML, perform clean and efficient searches, insert images from other
sites/URLs, embed flash animations, right-click to open links posted links
in new tabs/windows, paste code, harcore forum users even cherish their
custom footers. Most of these functions wouldn't be as effective in a flash

 do a base install of your OS to run the tests, and wipe it clean

 Any thoughts on that? What version of Linux are you currently

[Flashcoders] optimizing an animation?

2006-06-26 Thread michal jaworski

hi!

i have a performance problems with a site.
the site has four content areas with navigation between them, so that
when you click on an icon the section zooms in from and icon size to
full screen and the current sections zooms out at the same time.
zooming and positioning is done with zeh fernando's mc_tween.
the problem here is simple: the animation chokes. it almost looks as
if there was a start frame, an end one and two or three frames
displayed in between (it takes around a second).
also there is a section with a news. news are diplsayed as list of
titles. when clicked an item expands pushing the list down and the
news copy shows in this space. textfields are created dynamically as
the news are read form an xml file. backgound and buttons are attached
dynamically too.
the problem: it chokes too. this is weirded as tweening is very bad
for the first time but then i smooths.
any hints about how to address this? how to optmimize animation? what
to use and what to avoid?
thanks,
michal

[Flashcoders] li color

Is there any way to change the color of the bullets made with li tags

it black even with system fonts set to color. Does it actually require
applying a stylesheet?

Thanks many time..

Hi Franto,
 That's the fourth time I've had your email...

Gmail doesn't automatically tag your outgoing mail, and ignores it
when it arrives back at your mailbox - so you won't necessarily see it
against a Flashcoders tag. It _has_ been sent, tho' - just look at
your Sent mailbox.

[Flashcoders] Text arching

2006-06-26 Thread Umesh Patel
Hello,

I have following question.

I saw nike's unifrm builder, Nike Uniform
Builder(http://www.niketeam.com/v2/new/Sport...T=BBMCAT=UNI), they built
uniform generator using Flash, the only thing wondering me is, how did they
manage to arch the text, if anybody has any clue then I would be very happy to
see little bit of action scripting.

I want different arching with click of a button or something like that, I am
attaching a sample of arching that I am looking for!

 If anybody figures it out. thanks,

Umesh Patel

work with Flash HTML textfields. This method works inside the Flash

You can do this with CSS... You can even exchange the bullets for
images. CSS is pure power if you know what you're doing.

Check this out.

Re: [Flashcoders] optimizing an animation?

2006-06-26 Thread Mick G

I've seen this mostly when the MC being tweened either has a lot of vector
information or large (physically) bitmaps.

- If it's all vector being zoomed, either optimize and cut down on the
vectors or, create a new frame in the MC with 'some elements' only, goto
that frame while zooming, do a callback function on the MC_tween to then go
back to the frame you want once the tween is complete
- If it's bitmaps being zoomed, they may have too much information to render
quickly - try reducing the amount of pixels in the bitmap (like 50% scale)
then stretch it 200% when it's dynamically attached - this will lower the
quality but speed up the zoom (you can try this just to test if it is the
bitmap causing the problem).
- In general, disable elements one at a time and keep testing the movie to
find the offending elements that are causing the chugging.

zooming and positioning is done with zeh fernando's mc_tween.
the problem here is simple: the animation chokes. it almost looks as
if there was a start frame, an end one and two or three frames
displayed in between (it takes around a second).
also there is a section with a news. news are diplsayed as list of
titles. when clicked an item expands pushing the list down and the
news copy shows in this space. textfields are created dynamically as
the news are read form an xml file. backgound and buttons are attached
dynamically too.
the problem: it chokes too. this is weirded as tweening is very bad
for the first time but then i smooths.
any hints about how to address this? how to optmimize animation? what
to use and what to avoid?

Another approach is to switch to a single bitmap for the whole MC,
scale and tween, then switch back to your vector version once the
tween has finished.

RE: [Flashcoders] FileReference and actionscript 2.0

2006-06-26 Thread Mike
Pretty simple:

import flash.net.FileReference;
class package.FileReferenceListener extends Object {
public function FileReferenceListener () {
super();
}
private function onCancel(file:FileReference):Void {
trace(onCancel:  + file.name);
}
private function onOpen(file:FileReference):Void {
trace(onOpen:  + file.name);
}
private function onProgress(file:FileReference,
bytesLoaded:Number, bytesTotal:Number):Void {
trace(onProgess:  + file.name + :  + bytesLoaded + / +
bytesTotal);
}
}

Then, elsewhere, you can do something like this:

import flash.net.FileReference;
import package.FileReferenceListener;
// ...
var file:FileReference = new FileReference();
var listener:FileReferenceListener = new FileReferenceListener();
file.addListener(listener);
// Do stuff with file.

I am curious what those tricks are.

What I do is to ask the server for an upload code number before I upload
This upload code is associated with the given user and whatever the user is
trying to do. This is application specific. This creates a record in the
database, so that when the file is uploaded the server knows what it is.
Then I send the parameter as part of the upload URL. Additionally, I make
the upload codes time out. So if a code isnt used within a few minutes it is
no longer usable.

Hank

 Correct, as far as I know, they did not give a way to recieve any data

Re: [Flashcoders] Resize External .Swf File Based on Stage?

2006-06-26 Thread Éric Thibault

There is no way to know the stage size of an imported SWF.

The loading parent only knows the size of the loaded SWF from the
elements present on frame 1. You could however place an invisible
element the size of it's stage inside the loaded SWF... (I've used that
trick before!) Or use variables with the height and width on the first
frame of your loaded SWF

A+

data, and before you actually parse or process the data. onData is always
gonna be called first. onLoad is called when the call has totally
completed, there fore at the end of the process, whereas onData is at the
beginning.

 Hi,

 I actually don´t know, but probably make more sense if the onLoad
 method would be faster because it should be easier to parse the
 LoadVars source rather than the xml one. But no idea why the onData
 method is faster...

 Sorry for not helping too much :S

There is no way to know the stage size of an imported SWF.

The loading parent only knows the size of the loaded SWF from the
elements present on frame 1. You could however place an invisible
element the size of it's stage inside the loaded SWF... (I've used that
trick before!) Or use variables with the height and width on the first
frame of your loaded SWF

A+

Brandon Krakowsky/MTC a écrit :
 I'm having an issue resizing externally loaded .swf files. It's no
 problem if the content of the external .swf is contained within the
 movie's stage, but if not, how can I resize it based on it's width or
 height? Especially if the content is animated and the height/width is
 constantly changing? It doesn't seem like you can get the stage size
of
 an externally loaded .swf.

You can also replace all your tweens with keyframes
Just F6 all the way through your tween frames then select all the new
keyframes and rightclick and choose remove tween, make sure you get em all

This will in effect replace all tweens with keyframes
Tweens have to be calculated by the cpu whereas keyframes don't
But the cpu will still have to calculate vectors, just not tweens of vectors

So this might help some too

[Flashcoders] Loading external SWFs with a different frame rate

For example, I have a movie that is set to 30fps (swf1) and I want to load

Any suggestions?

It can do limited cross domain xml loading (obeying crossdomain.xml
policy files of course), unlike the JavaScript XmlHttpRequest object. So
if nothing else, it could work as a client side proxy, for those that

Re: [Flashcoders] Re: loadvars vs xml onData

2006-06-26 Thread Andreas Rønning

The tests i ran were something like this:

create an xml object
add a callback for its onData
30 times, get the same file from the server and get an average of the
time between the load() call and the onData invocation.

repeat for loadvars
compare results.

I've done tests against a server that might as well be called local, but
on average loadvars gave me around 20 ms, while xml gave me between 25
and 30.

I know loadvars extends object, wheras xml extends xmlNode which again
extends object, so i don't know.. I always thought all classes that load
content and have an onData event inherit the same functionality but
override on the onLoad...

Re: [Flashcoders] Loading external SWFs with a different frame rate

2006-06-26 Thread Kevin Newman
I don't think it's possible to run the loaded swf at a different frame
rate from the container, but I have read (and I even got it to work
once) that you can force the parent clip to take the frame rate of the
loaded swf, by embedding a streaming (I think) sound file (even if it's
silence) into the swf that will be loaded. I'm pretty sure that if you
can get this to work, it will slow down the parent swf's frame rate though.

Re: [Flashcoders] Flash for forums

2006-06-26 Thread Count Schemula

I vote vBulletin. It's under active development and gets better all
the time. It's already very very smooth and quite powerful. Worth the
$100 or whatever they ask for it.

phpbb is a great open source effort, but just isn't as nice or
powerful overall overall.

Re: [Flashcoders] Panning and Sliding, using Tweens possible?

2006-06-26 Thread Digital Rust
definitely possible. i'm pretty new to actionscript so don't laugh,
but this is what i've been using recently.

mcButton.onRelease = function(){
new mx.transitions.Tween(mcTarget, _x,
mx.transitions.easing.Strong.easeOut, 0, 600, 2, true);
new mx.transitions.Tween(mcTarget, _y,
mx.transitions.easing.Strong.easeOut, 600, 0, 2, true);

}

(mcTarget, _x, mx.transitions.easing.Strong.easeOut, 0, 600, 2, true)

target, parameter, easing type, starting coordinate, ending
coordinate, seconds or frames, true for use seconds and false for use
frames

Re: [Flashcoders] Text arching

2006-06-26 Thread GregoryN
I'd like to recommend Text2Curve component for this:
http://gousable.com/flash/text2curve.html

It has a lot of advantages over TextOnCircle Weyert mentioned:
- can place text along ellipse or sine, not only circle
- more methods to manipulate this text
- can be used in Flash IDE, even rotated/distorted there.
- some more :-)

Recently version 1.6 was released with more useful features.

BTW, reminding some recent threads in this list:
- it manages to evenly distribute objects (letters) along the ellipse
- starting point can be moved (along the ellipse) at any distance.

==
Quotation:
==
=== New in version 1.6 (see samples 6 and 7):
- Center Text parameter allows text to be centered by the top or bottom point
of the curve (round or ellipse).
- Letter Spacing parameter adds some more space between letters (in pixels).
- Start Point parameter allows you to change the distance along the curve (in
pixels) from 0 point (marked with cross) to the first letter. Some kind of
indent.
- Some properties added to access via Actionscript
- Updated help system

=== Description:
Text2Curve Flash component allows you to place dynamic text along one of
pre-defined curves.
Unlike similar tools in programs as Illustrator, CorelDRAW or Freehand, it
allows doing this dynamically, e.g. as a movie is playing.
Text along the curve (circle, ellipse, wave and so on) is broadly used by
designers to create artistic effects.

Can be used as a component in Flash MX 2004 or later.
Resulting movie require Flash Player 7 or later.

The package contains complete Help system with API documentation and samples.

=== Features:
- Place dynamic text along one of pre-defined curves. Broad range of parameters
can approximate almost any curve you need.
- This text remains dynamic and can be changed at runtime.
- Use your favorite font (just embed it).
- Interactive Live Preview. Edit Text2Curve component in Flash IDE like any
other movie clip. No programming needed.
- Using class constructor, you can create Text2Curve objects from scratch at
runtime with Actionscript.
- Scale, rotate and distort text along the curve in Flash IDE or at runtime via
Actionscript.
- Animate text along the curve either with timeline-based motioin tween or
Actionscript.
- Help system with illustrations and API documentation.

You can also dynamically:
- Change text to be shown;
- Change text or curve's parameters
and then update the view using redraw() method.

 I want different arching with click of a button or something like that, I am

Re: [Flashcoders] Text arching

2006-06-26 Thread Marc Hoffman
From the online samples, I don't see any demonstration of the
claimed ability to distort the text, just to place the letters along
different curves. Am I missing something? I hope so, since I've been
looking for a way to do text distortions (such as making text fit a
flat-topped arch).
