Hi John

download the docs (last zip) here:

http://www.adobe.com/support/documentation/en/flex/index.html#package

it contains all docs (references, userguide, as3 doc and so on), look into
flex2_buildanddeploy.pdf - using the flex compilers

I'm looking for documentation on the compc.exe and fdb.exe tools that come
with the Flex 2.0 SDK.

I've already seen some stuff regarding the mxmlc.exe, but that about it.

Re: [Flashcoders] Delegate and [self] Argument

2006-07-04 Thread Steve Webster

Hi Jeff,

In the delegate class from Steve Webster, there is this line:

var fullArgs:Array = arguments.concat(self.extraArgs, [self]);

I was wondering if anyone knows why there is a reference to self passed to
the handler function. Or how might this be useful? This extra argument could
cause a problem depending upon what your hander function does with
parameters, for example if you have a function with a dynamic number of
variables.

Yeah, my Delegate class doesn't work very well for event handlers that
expect a variable number of arguments. This has caused us problems in
the past, and we have an internal version of this class that allows
you to pass a third argument to Delegate.create that prevents the
reference to self being added to the arguments list. Let me know if
this might be useful for you and I'll dig it out.

The reference to self is passed so that you have a clean and easy way
to reference the delegate function in the event handler method. This
was added mainly for the purpose of making it easy to remove event
listeners without having to keep an external reference to the delegate
functions that were created. Of course, you could just use
arguments.caller, but that's less obvious.

Cheers,

Steve

[Flashcoders] Multiple instances of ExternalInterface in IE

2006-07-04 Thread Alexis Glass
I have two entirely separate SWFs on a page, both using
ExternalInterface to interface with my JavaScript. Things seemed just
fine under Firefoxi, but under IE I get an Out of memory at line: 56
error following a really long delay when the page is unloaded as I try
to navigate to another page. This only happens when both SWFs are
displayed on the page at the same time. They both have different IDs set
in their object tags and are realized from entirely separate SWFs, so I
don't see why there should be any conflict by including both on one page...

I don't seem to be the only person to have encountered this problem
(http://blog.deconcept.com/2006/05/18/flash-player-bug-streaming-content-innerhtml-ie/
), but I haven't been able to find a solution mentioned anywhere. Has
anyone else encountered this problem -- or, better yet, found a solution?

Thanks (fingers crossed)

 No. For every connection (send and receive) there must be a

Actually, at the moment it looks like I can drop localConnections

[Flashcoders] Textfield clearing on Enter key

2006-07-04 Thread Andreas Rønning

God knows why this is such a hassle:

I have a chat app that sends messages when the user hits enter. The
input field is multiline (and needs to be, for the sake of elegance).

Hitting enter inserts a line break in the text regardless of what i do
right now. The method reads something like this:

function clearText() {
chat_input.text = ;
trace(chat_input.text.length);
}
kl = {};
Key.addListener(kl);
kl.onKeyDown = function() {
if (Key.isDown(Key.ENTER)) {
clearText();
}
};

After clearText, The input field has 2 blank lines and a text length of
0. I'm hugely confused here, and kind of freaked out.

If it's got a text length of 0 maybe it doesn't actually have two blank
lines, it's just not reset its height to where it was before clearing the
text. Try storing its _width and _height and resetting those as part of your
clearText function.

Re: [Flashcoders] Textfield clearing on Enter key

2006-07-04 Thread janosch

Hello,

the text length is 0, becaus at this time, there is no linebrake in the
textfield.

The Key-Listener is faster than the textfield.
Try this:

_root.createTextField(txt, 1, 0, 0, 100, 100);
_root.txt.type = input;
_root.txt.multiline = true;
_root.txt.wordWrap = true;

_root.clearText = function(id) {
   clearInterval(_root.clearTextIntervalId);

   _root.txt.text = ;

};

_root.keyListener = new Object();
_root.keyListener.onKeyDown = function() {
   if (Key.getCode() == Key.ENTER) {
   _root.clearTextIntervalId = setInterval(_root.clearText, 10);
   }
};

Key.addListener(_root.keyListener);

You could easily write yourself a jfsl command that would find the item in
the library - find out which item is currently selected in the document,
loop through the library items, select the match - etc.

Add a mapping to a key combo and yer golden.

The library panel is not written in JSFL. JSFL has access to most of the
properties of the library and its symbols, but not the symbol preview.
There are some helper tools, such as ALF which can make your life easier.

 ie, would it be possible to replace this? its the kludgiest part of

 btw is there a way to search for a named symbol and goto it? (much
 like eclipse allows you to filter to go to a named resource wtihout
 navigating the directory tree..)

Re: [Flashcoders] v.8 SWF loading v.7 SWF issue

2006-07-04 Thread Marcelo de Moraes Serpa

Ok, I solved it. Aparently this happened becouse I was exporting for Flash 7
and compiling to flash 8 in mtasc (-version 8). Now I exported to Flash 7
and compiled using the -version 7 option in mtasc. When I exported the swf
to Flash 8, mtasc throwed a Input Swf is corrupt, that´s why I was
exporting it to Flash 7.

Now the question is: Will Flash 8 specific code/features work in this swf?
That´s becouse the code is injected later... does exporting/compiling the
swf to flash 7 prevent it from using flash 8 features?

[Flashcoders] Dispatch method don't working

2006-07-04 Thread Weyert de Boer

Hello

I have been working on a website where I make heavy use of dispatching
events and such. Works all nice. But out of the dark some part of the
code got broken. I am using a AS2 class around my buttons so it will
dispatch a event at all clipevent methods. Sample snippet:

   // dispatch method dispatches an event onRelease to the listeners
   public function onRelease() {
   trace( MOVIE-BUTTON EVENT: onRelease );
   this.gotoAndPlay( onRelease );

   dispatchEvent( {type:onRelease, target:this} );

   }

As you see the movieclip will go to the frame with the label onRelease
and then dispatches the event onRelease. This all works fine when the
user really clicks on the button. Only when I am doing it by code, through:

navigation.home_btn.onRelease();

Somehow the event doesn't get dispatch I do see the trace-message in the
Output palette but the delegated method for the onrelease-event doesn't
get triggered. The code I use for binding it is: [with in a simple
iteration through a array]

   var currNavItem = navigation[ navigationItems[i] + _btn ];
   currNavItem.addEventListener( onRelease,
mx.utils.Delegate.create( this, handleMenuButtonClick ) );

Does anyone know why this doesn't work when I trigger the
onRelease-method by code?

Yours,
Weyert de Boer

[Flashcoders] AS3 - Missing

2006-07-04 Thread Marcos Neves

Is this the place to talk about AS3? If not, where would be?

The concept of any movieClip be a class is very powerfull, given the
ability to do new ClassName to create a copy of any clip. But the Auto
Generated class and the fact that you can´t have two movieclips with
the same class is something that is limiting flash capabilities.

Example:
I have a A world map where each country is a movieclip. And every one
will have the same behavior. Before flash 9, what I did is assign a
class called Country to each movie clip. This way, I can easy update
the behavior of all at the same time.

With Flash 9, I can´t assign a class with the same name and can´t
specify a base class to the Auto Generated extends.
My suggestion is to do something like this:
http://neves.bs2.com.br/flex/preview.jpg

When ask for AutoGenerate, a check box would enable an different base
class, and I would write on the textbox. So a movieClip called Brazil,
would have a autoGenerated class called Brazil that extends the class
Country, witch would be my base class.

I´m shure no one can deny that this feature is essential.

[Flashcoders] BitmapData and security.allowDomain

2006-07-04 Thread INK .
Hi, List!

There is an issue with loading an extermal JPEGs form a remote server.
It seems to be a bug.
I am loading a JPG image to a movie clip and cloning it using
Bitmap.draw(input_mc).
(SWF is hosted on domain A, JPG hosted on domain B.)
In this case loaded JPEG behaves exactly as an SWF loaded from a remore
server %\ (cross-domain data loading)
This means that it wount permit scripting it %|
So I am getting only white screen instead of a bitmap representation of
a symbol beeing cloned using BitmapData.
Since I can't add System.security.allowDomain(*); to a JPEG file
The question is:
- any ideas how to access BitmapData of a remotely downloaded domain
(NOT the same as where SWF hosted )

Thanks.

Even with the cross domain policy xml file it won't work.

The only way (that I know) is creating a server-side script (say, a simple
script in PHP) on your server that reads the remote file and outputs it.
That way, instead of loading the JPEG file, you load the local PHP script,
but passing the remote JPEG as the parameter.

It will make your tunnel all image viewing through your server, but it
works.

[Flashcoders] Shared Fonts issue... textformat object only works in dynamically created textfields!

I really need some quick help here as I need to deploy this app for

I´m using Shared Fonts and loading the swf with the exported font symbols
beforehand, in the main preloader. In the subsequent forms (swfs) I´m using
the SharePoint strategy, where I put only a dummy MovieClip one frame
before and so all the Shared Swf DOM becomes available for access through
actionscript. I´ve succesfully set up the shared fonts using a textformat
objects on **dynamically created textfields**, but it just doesn´t work when
I try to set it in textfields that I´ve put on the stage through the flash
ide... they just become blank, no text...

I´m using the following code:

Re: [Flashcoders] Multiple instances of ExternalInterface in IE

2006-07-04 Thread Alexis Glass
In absence of a response, I thought I'd post more results from my
investigation. Debugging IE's scripts, we come across the culprit -
ExternalInterface saves the previous unload handler and installs its
own. Its own unload handler calls the saved unload handler after
freeing up all its resources. Pity that it saves the previous unload
handler in a global variable so that if ExternalInterface is initialized
twice on one page it recursively calls the __flash_savedUnloadHandler
until IE complains about no memory.

As Brad Neuberg wrote in his blog about ExternalInterface's broken XML
implementation
(http://codinginparadise.org/weblog/2006_02_03_archive.html), In
general, whoever coded ExternalInterface should be fired. Well, or
whoever signed off on it :( On the up side, I guess it should be
possible (if not exactly future-proof) to overwrite the default
__flash_unloadHandler behaviour.

---
function __flash_unloadHandler() {
 myflash_object.style.display = 'none';
 for (var prop in myflash_object) {
   if (typeof(myflash_object[prop]) == function) {
 myflash_object[prop]=null;
   }
 }
 if (__flash_savedUnloadHandler != null) {
   __flash_savedUnloadHandler();
 }
}
function __flash_setupUnloadHandler() {
 if (window.onunload != __flash_unloadHandler) {
   __flash_savedUnloadHandler = window.onunload;
   window.onunload = __flash_unloadHandler;
 }
}

to navigate to another page. This only happens when both SWFs are
displayed on the page at the same time. They both have different IDs
set in their object tags and are realized from entirely separate SWFs,
so I don't see why there should be any conflict by including both on
one page...

I don't seem to be the only person to have encountered this problem
(http://blog.deconcept.com/2006/05/18/flash-player-bug-streaming-content-innerhtml-ie/
), but I haven't been able to find a solution mentioned anywhere. Has
anyone else encountered this problem -- or, better yet, found a solution?

Thanks (fingers crossed)

Alexis

Re: [Flashcoders] euro symbol fight

2006-07-04 Thread Gabriel

thanks Bernard, but this is not the problem.

I have a table in a database, where I write this text this will cost
you 50€.

when I retrieve this info from AMFPHP I receive the whole text except
for € which cames as a square.

thanks,
GaB

The escaped HTML Euro sign is %E2%82%AC

So you could use something like: my_txt.htmlText = unescape(%E2%82%AC);

Does that font have the euro symbol?
I think what you're describing could mean it doesn't have the font
symbol...
