[Flashcoders] take care of if(false), it crash compiler

2007-05-30 Thread iiley

Hi list,

For a nightmare of AsWing A3 crashes flex compiler solved, related pages
here :
http://www.aswing.org/?p=40
and
http://www.aswing.org/?p=142

Then i did a test to prove some thing, how flex compiler crashes with a
legit syntax, here is the result:

If you use if(false) and in it with a if(xxx!=null), then compiler crashes.

For example:

package {

import flash.display.Sprite;
import flash.geom.Rectangle;

public class LittleTest extends Sprite{

public function LittleTest(){
 if(false){
  var str:String = crash??;
  if(str != null){
   trace(str);
  }
 }
}
}
}
While you compiling that LittleTest class with warning flag turned on, the
compiler will crash, you can try. :)

If you change

*if(false)*

to
*var b:Boolean = false;*
*if(b)*
**
or even

*if(true)*
**
Compile well, or if you change *if(str != null) *to* if(str) *compile well
too.

Hope this helps if you got this issue before.

Maybe you could use Google Desktop with Larry's Any Text File Indexer

I haven't yet tested it but you can add any text file to it, including

Subject: [Flashcoders] [OT] desktop file searching utility

Hi all,

Does anyone have a desktop file searching utility they can
recommend that really does search within files of any type for
specific strings?

The built in Windows search utility, as well as the Google
Desktop Search, do not seem to search within file types such
as external ActionScript files.
They only seem to poke around in the known text document types
(DOC, PDF, EPS, XLS, etc.)

Recommendations?

Thanks,
Rob

[Flashcoders] handling list box item Rollover in flash8

2007-05-30 Thread Ravi Marella
Hi all,

Is there any way to handle the rollover event on the items present in a
flash 8 list box component? What I want to do basically is show a popup
text depending on the item that is being currently rolled over. I
googled a lot but didn't nothing much useful. I've written the following
code...it works fine if there is no scroll in the box...but once you
scroll, it returns the first element in the scrolled set as the first
element:

function fmouse ()

{

videoList.onMouseMove = function ()

{

sel = Math.ceil (videoList._ymouse / 21);
//assuming that size of each item in LB is 21

w = (roll_mc._x + roll_mc._width);

trace (sel); //sel is the
current selected iitem

if (_xmouse  roll_mc._x || _xmouse  w ||
_ymouse  roll_mc._y || _ymouse  roll_mc._y + roll_mc._height)

{

r_mc._visible = true;

delete videoList.onMouseMove;

}

};

}

r_mc.onRollOver = function ()

{

r_mc._visible = false;

fmouse ();

};

fmouse ();

Re: [Flashcoders] [OT] - Job Posting

Hi JC.

In the sense that the person required will be working under a senior
programmer.

Whilst they will need a good knowledge of AS 2 and XML, they won't be
responsible for defining the architecture of projects, and will pretty
much be told what is required of them, rather than having to devine
this from a project requirements document. They will always have
someone to refer problems upwards to, and to learn from.

That said, perhaps the original text of the offer is somewhat
misleading - I think there is supposed to be a full stop rather than a
comma between HTML and MDM Zinc, which significantly alters the
expected skill set I think...

Hi Phil, can you write files in your Pocket with .NET??
I think that you can read then with flash.

Another idea it's to make some .NET webform that replys with the GPS data,
Flash can make an getURL command that reads from the .NET web page in you
Pocket, but I don´t know how you have to configure the pocket to works with an

Asunto: [Flashcoders] Reading GPS data into Flash on a Pocket PC?

Hello All --

I am desperately trying to figure out how to read GPS data into Flash on a
Pocket PC. I have a bluetooth GPS unit and a Pocket PC running Windows Mobile
5.0. Here is what I've tried:

1. Found a couple of .NET Compact Framework .dlls for Windows Mobile. These
have methods for connecting to GPS devices and reading location data. I
installed .NET CF on the Pocket PC and I tried using Zinc 2.5 to connect to the
.dlls but with no luck. Later I found out that Zinc for Pocket PC supports
Windows Mobile 2003, but not later versions such as 5.0.

2. There is an article on the Adobe Flash developer's site about a GPS/Pocket
PC project called Invisible Ideas. The project was done by writing a C++
application that would read the GPS data from the serial port. It would
communicate with Flash via an XMLSocket connection. Unfortunately, the article
provides no information about the C++ side of things (not that it would help
much as I am not a C++ or .NET developer).

I am now trying to think of other methods for accomplishing my goal. Any ideas?
Does anybody know of someone who has succesfully accomplished the same thing?

Best Regards,

Importing excel data - One thing you can do is, save your excel sheet as a

password security? If its a web app, you can provide some server level

RE: [Flashcoders] dynamic text not wrapping

2007-05-30 Thread Daniel Portilla Heras
Hi Nik, you must to use dynamic texts build on the fly with actionscript.

// Begin Code
createTextField(my_txt, 1, 0, 0, 200, 20);
with (my_txt) {
  border = true;
  borderColor = 0x00;
  multiline = false;
  wordWrap = false;
  autoSize = none;
  text = this is my first text created dynamically, it's too large and don't
wrap with my textfield;
}
// End Code

After this, if you can to set the width to 100px, you have to make it multiline
and wordWrapped, You'll have to set the height according to the number of lines
of scroll you have.

This is only an idea, I supose that anyone can give you another hand.

[Flashcoders] Motion usage...flv only?

	I've been seeing a lot of flash craziness lately and a lot of it
looks like they're using motion effects and particles on buttons and

know that you can export stuff from motion as a movie and then use
the video encoder to make it a flv. but I was thinking more about
using particles for buttons and other small movie clips...or is that
the only way to do it? thanks!

Re: [Flashcoders] how install apollo what I need and what don't

2007-05-30 Thread Gustavo Duenas
Ok, my bad, I googled the matter and I was completely wrong, I though
the apollo app was an application, something in my applications
folder to be double clicked and that's it, when it is
more like an viewer installer for the apollo applications I could
make in my flex builder (once the plug-in has been installed of
course). So I need both of them.
one question again...sorry if I sound like an ignorant because I'm,
but if I design an apollo application or widget in order to be
installed in any machine, those machines (pc or macs) necessary need
to have
the apollo application? Because since this is an alpha, is something
not much quite used right nowam I right?

[Flashcoders] Crossdomain problems

2007-05-30 Thread Gert-Jan van der Wel

Hi list!

I'm a developer on the Floorplanner team (check www.floorplanner.com) and I
ran into some crossdomain issues.

All the furniture elements are separate swf's which are loaded in one by
one. For the sake of scalability we are thinking about moving all the
furniture swf's to the Amazon S3 service. So I've uploaded all the swf's to
Amazon S3 and I made a little test app to see how things worked. To be
short, it didn't. You can load swf's, but no moving, scaling, changing color
etc.

So I made a new test app using another server of our own:
www.floorplanner.nl (because I've more control over this one). Every
furniture swf has an movieclip with the name color. When you select a
color in the Floorplanner, the color of this movieclip is changed. My test
app checks if it can access that color movieclip. When I run it inside the
Flash IDE there is no problem, but run it anywhere else and it will fail.

Here is my little test app:
http://www.floorplanner.com/assets/lab/crossdomaintest.swf
http://www.floorplanner.com/assets/lab/crossdomaintest.fla

I've set my crossdomain files to allow everything (for now):
http://www.floorplanner.nl/crossdomain.xml
http://www.floorplanner.com/crossdomain.xml

Can anybody help me and tell me what I'm doing wrong?

[Flashcoders] Are there any classes available for MP3 encoding?

2007-05-30 Thread ben gomez farrell
I've used some of the com.adobe classes for PNG and JPG encoding, and
was wondering if there were any similar classes available for MP3
encoding. I should add my disclaimer that I might not understand the
make up of a sound file, but I'm assuming that I can go from a byteArray
generated by computeSpectrum to an MP3 fileand my only hurdle is
knowing how an MP3 file is made.
If not MP3, anything else like WAV?

[Flashcoders] Help me disect some Flash work please?

2007-05-30 Thread LHWH Interactive

These three presentations really have nothing in common except a
couple of things I'm trying to figure out, but haven't ever actually
done before, so I'm kinda lost.

What I'm most interested in is, how *technically* do they synchronize
the sound so well to the animation? I notice that no matter what kind
of connection you're on, they all seem to run pretty well, and seemed
to be synchronized pretty well.

Have they split the soundtrack into smaller chunks?
Are they somehow using cuepoints and actionscript to direct the
animation and timeline?

In my head, I see the sound as a separate movieclip that's being
loaded with actionscript, and then cuepoints in the audio are kicking
the playhead forward thru an animation, then stopping the playhead to
wait for another cue. Am I close?

How would you set these up, technically speaking, from a production standpoint?

Please, I know the design of them is all over the map, and I'm aware
that there's actual video (greenscreened) in one, but generally, they
all seem kinda like the same beast.

Has anyone put together one of these sort of powerpoint-y
presentations using flash with a voiceover track and synchronized
animation to it? What pitfalls and advice could you offer? I'm fairly
good at general Flash, and I don't think this is beyond my realm of
work in Flash. I'm a programmer who would be relying on an art
department to provide all the media, but I'm just not sure how to set
it up... does this make sense?

Below are three of these types of presentations that I was just
randomly able to locate, but this is almost exactly what we want to
try...

Re: [Flashcoders] seamless audio loops

2007-05-30 Thread Marc Hoffman
Some MP3's have padding in the headers which causes Flash to
hesitate. You probably need to re-encode the MP3's without the
extraneous information. Sorry I don't have the exact info, but I know
it's been documented and you should be able to Google it. -Marc

RE: [Flashcoders] Crossdomain problems

2007-05-30 Thread Tom Gooding
Hi,

To allow scripting across swfs served from different domains the swfs
themselves need to set
System.security.allowDomain(www.somedomain.com);
to permit a parent swf from somedomain.com to call actionscript methods
on them.

I guess your swfs on amazon will need to run the line above to open your
domain up for cross scripting ( *.floorplanner.com ).

I haven't loaded you links or anything though - hope this helps..

[Flashcoders] AS3/FP9 wheel events and browser behavior

2007-05-30 Thread Adam Mark
I am migrating code from AS2 to AS3 and came across some unexpected
browser behavior.

The following examples are both running in 9,0,28,0 (IE 7 and Firefox
2).

In AS2 (compiled to either v7 or v9), the surrounding web page does
NOT scroll while the embedded SWF has focus and captures wheel events.

var mouseListener:Object = new Object();
mouseListener.onMouseWheel = function (delta) {
myMovieClip._x += delta;
}
Mouse.addListener(mouseListener);

In AS3 (compiled to v9), both the surrounding web page and the
embedded SWF scroll at the same time (while the SWF has focus).

myMovieClip.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_WHEEL, handleMouseWheel);

private function handleMouseWheel(evt:MouseEvent):void {
myMovieClip.x += evt.delta;
}

Grr. I am trying to prevent the web page from scrolling while
the SWF has focus and receives MOUSE_WHEEL events. I have tried
stopPropagation() and stopImmediatePropagation() to no avail.

The behavior is the same whether I render the SWF object/embed code
via JavaScript or directly in the HTML.

Any ideas? Am I missing something obvious?

Thanks,
Adam

RE: [Flashcoders] dynamic text not wrapping

2007-05-30 Thread Daniel Portilla Heras
HI nik again, sorry but these code are of the help and I don't read it so much.
These options are for a single-line textfield, that grows infinitely. If you
want to use multiline you must to set to true

With the autosize you have to take care because, they are a lot of bugs about
this property of the TextFields.

I have to make my own function to autoadjust my textfield. It gets the width of
the textfield, then It makes the autosize to none, it sets the width, and
sets the autosize to the param (left or right) and it aligns the textfield
again.

// Begin code
function autoadjustTXT(field:TextField, algnText:String){
var wtext:Number;
wtext = field._width;
field.autoSize = none;
field._width = wtext
field.autoSize = algnText;
field.align = algnText;
}
// End code

Yes - I have a similar app that loads heavy audio libraries from a
regional server - these libraries (the child swfs if you like) need to
run the line below.

You need to use: System.security.allowDomain( *.floorplanner.com )

If the functions are trivial (changing color etc) you could even do

System.security.allowDomain(*);

Hope this helps

[Flashcoders] How to obtain html attributes from instanced movieclip

2007-05-30 Thread Gabriel

Hello list,

I'm loading a HTML file into a textarea. I see it and everything works
just fine.

I need to do something like this:

img src='imgViewer' id='testmc' *file='miImageFile.jpg'*/

when mi imgViewer class is instanced I get a trace in the constructor,
so the class is well instanced. But is there any way to retrieve that
file attribute?? Why if I do trace(this.id) from the class I can't get
it? I've tried with intervals also because of the load time, but even
when it is full loaded I can't access it.

any other idea??

thanks!

Gab

RE: [Flashcoders] Crossdomain problems

2007-05-30 Thread Daniel Portilla Heras
Hi Gert, two things about your crossdomain.xml, if you put secure=true you
gives access to files from another httpS://www.mydomain.com but NO from
http://www.mydomain.com (If I'm not confused).

And the other thing it's that I didn´t be able to give access to a localhost
domain, I had to put my files in a test server (with a internet's domain)

I hope it solve your problem.

Bye!

Re: [Flashcoders] Help me disect some Flash work please?

2007-05-30 Thread Mark Winterhalder

I'm a programmer who would be relying on an art
department to provide all the media, but I'm just not sure how to set
it up... does this make sense?

...and being a programmer is why you don't know how to do it. :)

I'm not sure anymore (too much of a programmer that shuns the timeline
myself), but you can have sound on the timeline. You'll see the wave
form on the timeline when you got it right, IIRC. That way, the
framerate is enforced (the only way to enforce a certain framerate
that I know of), meaning, the sound will play and frames are skipped
if rendering doesn't keep up.

So, there's not much to do for you. Odds are, if you tell the art
department to have some sound on the timeline and then add
synchronized animation to it, they'll automatically do it right
without further instructions. This is classic Flash -- remember it
used to be an animation tool and you need to be able to sync sound to
an animation for it to be useful.

The alternative probably would be to read the position in the clip and
jump to the theoretical frame of the animation, or to have a FLV with
metadata events at certain timestamps. Check out
http://inlet-media.de/flvtool2.

Mark

[Flashcoders] combo box problem

2007-05-30 Thread Randy Tinfow
We're 6 weeks into our last AS2 project, with about a week left for
development. Now we hit what seems like a brick wall.

We select an item from the dropdown and it works fine the first time. The
second time it works okay. The third time it just stops working.

There is apparently a reference in the component to the root timeline that
prevents it from operating normally. We've tried _lockroot, we've tried
swapping depths of __dropdown every single time you click on the combo box.
None of our hacks work.

We tried the bjc bitcomponent combobox and it looks horrendous and doesn't seem
to fire any of the events, either.

Any suggestions?

TIA,

Randy Tinfow

Re: [Flashcoders] Crossdomain problems

2007-05-30 Thread Rkos Attila

If your swf to be loaded is located at different domain than the swf,
which loads it, then you have no access to the properties, functions,
etc. of the loadee from the loader (by default). To allow access to
internals of the loadee, call security.allowDomain() in it with the
domain name of the loader, which grants right to movies located at
this domain to do anything with the loaded movie.

Ok, my bad, I googled the matter and I was completely wrong, I though
the apollo app was an application, something in my applications
folder to be double clicked and that's it, when it is
more like an viewer installer for the apollo applications I could
make in my flex builder (once the plug-in has been installed of

one question again...sorry if I sound like an ignorant because I'm,
but if I design an apollo application or widget in order to be

to have

The first one is different from the other 2.
First one uses real video, converted to FLV (you can grab the FLV file from
your browser cache).
Or grab it here:

The others are more powerpoint-type animations, which you can either create in
Flash (using the timeline and streaming sound) or use

Hopeing that would set the variable _global.url so i could use that to write

like
on(release){
getURL(_global.url + pdf_to_Load.pdf) /*  if online i want it to go to

}

Am i just totally off base, is there a way i can debug and see my global

[Flashcoders] Drag and Drop

2007-05-30 Thread Lord, Susan Ms. (CONTR)
Hello,

I posted this on the newbie's list and didn't get a response, so I
figured I would try here. Sorry for the double post for those of you who
watch both lists.

I have a drag and drop and have an issue. When I roll over one of the
other pieces and click the piece stays instead of jumping back to its
original location. It is not snapping to the target -- I removed the
target from the stage when the first piece snapped into place. It just
gets caught behind the other drag piece and when I click the program
gets completely confused.

Is there a way to swap depths when a piece is dragged over another piece
so that the drag piece is always on top? I know how to do this from a
button, but I don't know how to activate this event when a piece touches
another piece.

Below is my code, in case you would like a peak. Any suggestions you
have are welcome. I am very much a newbie.

Thanks,
Susan

We're 6 weeks into our last AS2 project, with about a week left for
development. Now we hit what seems like a brick wall.

We select an item from the dropdown and it works fine the first time. The
second time it works okay. The third time it just stops
working.

There is apparently a reference in the component to the root timeline that
prevents it from operating normally. We've tried
_lockroot, we've tried swapping depths of __dropdown every single time you
click on the combo box. None of our hacks work.

We tried the bjc bitcomponent combobox and it looks horrendous and doesn't seem
to fire any of the events, either.

Any suggestions?

TIA,

Re: [Flashcoders] How to obtain html attributes from instanced movieclip

2007-05-30 Thread Rkos Attila

The id attribute will not be created inside the movieclip symbol as a
property - it just gives the name under which the movieclip is
accessible in the textfield object (and actually the movieclip's _name
property will also hold the value of the id). So if you place your
HTML tag in a textfield, you can refer to the movieclip representing
the image tag like this:

my_textfield.testmc

You cannot access any attributes given in the HTML tag, but since you
can reach the movieclip instance, you can also pass any data to it,
e.g.:

my_textfield.testmc.file = miImageFile.jpg;
my_textfield.testmc.setFile(miImageFile.jpg);
etc.

  Attila

G Hello list,
G
G I'm loading a HTML file into a textarea. I see it and everything works
G just fine.
G

G
G img src='imgViewer' id='testmc' *file='miImageFile.jpg'*/
G

G so the class is well instanced. But is there any way to retrieve that

Re: [Flashcoders] Best way to control game character animations

2007-05-30 Thread Frederico Ferro Schuh

Well I figured out the problem, it once more was caused by modifications in
the display list during an input event... calling updateAfterEvent() solved
all the blinking issues. I'm still getting used to that... seems like it's
easy to mess things up if you forget to call it.

But I'm glad I can still get to control the animations adding and removing
MovieClips as needed.

I took a look at the scrollRect stuff, but that's for optimizing... I'm not
that far yet :)
Just have to get the animations to work first.

Thanks for the feedback!

 Hello list,

 I've been fiddling around with character animations for use in AS3

 What's the best way to switch the current animation of the character? I
 tried having each animation in its own MovieClip, and add/remove and
 play/stop them as necessary, but this causes blinking problems in
slower
 machines (you can sometimes see the character disappearing and
appearing
 when the animation switches), which's not a good thing. I believe this
is
 related to the asyncronous nature of the flash player.

 What I'm doing now is have a master MovieClip that contains one
character
 animation in each frame, and switch between them as needed. This looks
a
 little clumsy to me, as objects get created/destroyed unnecessarily,
and
 it's hard to manage them.

 Is this the only way to go, or is there a better solution? Any hints on
 this
 would be really appreciated.
 Thanks.

So you're on the same page as Mark, above? embed the sound directly
into the timeline and just animate around it? When the soundfile says,
It's Quick, It's Easy... or something along those lines, you'd just
animate your text to appear in time with the timeline?

How can I be sure that... okay, let's say at some point in the
voiceover, like above, there's a certain phrase you wanna animate
against. Let's say for the sake of argument it's a point where he/she
says something like, It's cheap, it's easy, and best of all, it'll
save you money! and you want those words to appear, then fade away,
then appear, then fade away, all synchronized to the voiceover track.

It's as easy as both of you are saying? Just drop the sound track into
the timeline and animate?

Let's say for the sake of argument, that the soundtrack is two, or
three minutes long... do you break up the file into smaller chunks? Or
is it okay to just import the whole sound at once? What are the
drawbacks/benefits to doing it either way?

It sure sounds like I'm just overthinking it... what with cuepoints,
actionscripting and the like. It sounds more and more like it's just
your basic, average, timeline based presentation that's about 4000
frames of animation and timeline mess. Maybe a pain to keep track of,
but little to no programming

Am I on the right track?

I have a blank button graphic, a blank movie clip for the animation, and a
downstate blank button.

I make a new symbol (button)
In the Up frame I have the blank button graphic and then I put a text box on
it and put in the text of the button,

In the Over Frame, I remove the blank button graphic and put in the movie
clip making sure the text is on top

In the Down Frame, I remove the movie clip and put in the downstate blank
button making sure the text is on top

In the Hit frame I draw a large rectangle that covers the whole button.

Then when I try the button the mouse has to be on the part of the button
which does not contain the text box to work. Obviously I want the button to
work no matter where on the button the mouse is hovering.

What am I doing wrong

[Flashcoders] textheight and embedded text

2007-05-30 Thread David Cohn

Hey all,

I'm trying to dynamically fit text into a Dynamic TextField by
repetitively adding text and checking the textHeight property (I want
to add an ellipsis at the end of text which is cut off, so I can't
just stuff all the text in there). This works fine, until I embed
the characters, in which case the textHeight property fails to respond.

Has anyone run into this? Is there a work-around?
Is there a better method for trimming text to a box?

Thanks,

No, I'm not loading any external swfs.

 Then I build a new MC container each time a user goes to a different

 Kinda relieved I'm not the only one that has run into this problem,

  We're 6 weeks into our last AS2 project, with about a week left for
 development. Now we hit what seems like a brick wall.

  We select an item from the dropdown and it works fine the first
 time. The second time it works okay. The third time it just stops
  working.

  There is apparently a reference in the component to the root timeline
 that prevents it from operating normally. We've tried
  _lockroot, we've tried swapping depths of __dropdown every single time
 you click on the combo box. None of our hacks work.

  We tried the bjc bitcomponent combobox and it looks horrendous and
 doesn't seem to fire any of the events, either.

  Any suggestions?

With the autosize you have to take care because, they are a lot of bugs about
this property of the TextFields.

I have to make my own function to autoadjust my textfield. It gets the width of the textfield, then It makes
the autosize to none, it sets the width, and sets the autosize to the param (left or
right) and it aligns the textfield again.

// Begin code
function autoadjustTXT(field:TextField, algnText:String){
var wtext:Number;
wtext = field._width;
field.autoSize = none;
field._width = wtext
field.autoSize = algnText;
field.align = algnText;

HI,

Danny, no I didn't set the wrap property explicitly in actionScript,
but only selected multiline (NOT 'multiline no wrap') in the
properties. I should mention that it is a dynamic textfield.

Daniel, why do I have to create it multiline and wrap = false, only to
set these properties to tru later on?

Will do some tests,

Thanks,
Nik

 Hi Nik, you must to use dynamic texts build on the fly with actionscript.

   border = true;
   borderColor = 0x00;
   multiline = false;
   wordWrap = false;
   autoSize = none;
   text = this is my first text created dynamically, it's too large and don't wrap
with my textfield;
 }
 // End Code

 After this, if you can to set the width to 100px, you have to make it
multiline and wordWrapped, You'll have to set the height according to the number
of lines of scroll you have.

 This is only an idea, I supose that anyone can give you another hand.

Re: [Flashcoders] seamless audio loops

2007-05-30 Thread Alain Rousseau
You could also try out my looping classes if you want to loop a
dynamically loaded mp3 :
http://lab.daroost.ca/2007/02/25/sondloop2-revisited-musicbuilder-soundobject/

To loop only 1 sound file use the SoundObject Class, to create a song
based on multiple files and looping that new song, use the MusicBuilder
Class.
You specify the number of milliseconds that the silence gap added lasts
(usually around 25ms).

The other solution, as mentioned in he other posts, is to reencode your
MP3 file, or import it as Steven said.
But WAV format is much better for the latest (or AIFF on Mac), you'll
have to take into account the added weight to your swf.

[Flashcoders] Re: E4X not for external XML docs? (Yay!)

2007-05-30 Thread daniel

Thanks you Arul and Muzak for your help. The problem was the namespace
issue, and some of it had to do with simple scope problems.
Woo! I love everyone!

Hey everyone!

I'm using an URLLoader to load a XML configuration file. I try to read the
XML file using some E4X syntax ([EMAIL PROTECTED]), but I get
nothing but an empty string when I trace it out.

However when I do the same to a local variable with some hard-coded XML as
its value, the E4X expressions work as expected. Can I use E4X and the XML
data type for external XML content? I double-checked if the URLLoader is
loading the content successfully by simply tracing it out. That works. Any
ideas?

Excuse me if this has been asked before.

Quick idea of what I'm doing...

function urlLoaderCompleteHandler(eventObj:Event):void {
// ...
var xmlData:XML = new XML(eventObj.target.data);
}

// ...
trace(xmlData.myElement); // Zip!

[Flashcoders] problems with getURL and local frame targeting in FP9

2007-05-30 Thread Darren Bowers

I have a two frame page - the left frame is a custom flash Tree object that
parses an IMS-compliant manifest (basically a tree menu structure) and the
right frame displays the page/object in that manifest. If i run this from a
server, it works fine and displays all links in the right frame. But if I
run it from a local or network drive it opens all links in _blank.

Adobe have a technote on the new allowScriptAccess and getURL in FP9 (
http://www.adobe.com/go/50c1cf38) but dont mention anything about this issue
(that i can locate).

Can anyone confirm that targeting frames locally via getURL under FP9 is now
not possible?

Cheers,
Darren
