[Flashcoders] PlayBook

2011-06-21 Thread David Hunter
Hi All,

Hope you are all well. I have just returned to work after a 4 month break
seeing a little of the other side of the world. I have been asked to make a
Blackberry Playbook app with AIR (it just got released in the UK) and hoping
for any pointers anyone has- particularly if I NEED to get FlashBuilder 4.5
or if I can use FlashBuilder 4 / Flash CS5 (which I already have)? If you
have a CS5 suite do you get a free upgrade to CS5.5?

Cheers,

Thanks Jason,

Guessed that would be the case.

I was badly briefed and the app is an AIR for Android app to run on a

RE: [Flashcoders] PlayBook

2011-06-21 Thread Merrill, Jason
I only got CS5 six months ago.

You might want to check with Adobe to see if they will upgrade you to 5.5 at no
charge. If you buy within a certain timeframe of a new release, they will give
you the new release for free. I don't know what the timeframe is for this one
though - 6 months might be just outside that window, but wouldn't hurt to
contact them and ask (or maybe someone here knows).

You can build with CS5 - basically, you create an AIR swf (using
standard desktop settings) then you can use the free SDK and a bat file
(or the command line) to compile the AIR/Playbook app.

I was able to build a Playbook app with Flash CS5 using this technique.

You can even do the same for iOS - in fact many folks using Flash CS5.5
are doing this to get at the interpreter builds in AIR 2.7 for iOS
(since they compile so much more quickly, and can't be built from the GUI).

You can compile to Android with FlashBuilder with a little workaround.
Lets say the big difference to 4.5 is, that you need to add the emulator
and SDK's kinda handmade.
I have an explanation with Android SDK for eclaire, but when you change
it to any new Android SDK its the same workflow:

Ha! Not too many. I took my iPhone to stay in touch with family and friend's
through email and facebook. I only work for a small group of clients who knew I
was away and I arranged someone else to make any updates to any sites. I
checked work email about once per week to make sure nothing too major had gone
wrong.

Next time I would consider taking my laptop and working on the road. But this
first trip it was important to not have it. I thoroughly recommend it.

Re: [Flashcoders] PlayBook

2011-06-21 Thread David Hunter
That post that Beatrix directed me to has partially worked. It gives me an
AIR2.7 publish option but no option to publish for Android. Any ideas?

Ha! Not too many. I took my iPhone to stay in touch with family and

clients who knew I was away and I arranged someone else to make any updates
to any sites. I checked work email about once per week to make sure nothing
 too major had gone wrong.

Next time I would consider taking my laptop and working on the road. But
this first trip it was important to not have it. I thoroughly recommend it.

You need the Android SDK , the usb driver
Should be easy, follow Lee Brimelows video tutorials.

Re: [Flashcoders] AS3 exploding and reassemble bitmap

2011-06-21 Thread Kerry Thompson
Debug versions will always run slower than the release. It's not a Flash/Flex
thing--it's the same in almost any language or environment. The IDE has to
watch for break points, update variables that you may be displaying, etc. It
just has to do a lot of stuff it does 't have to do in a non-debug version.

Cordially,

Kerry Thompson.

Sent from my iPad, which doesn't support Flash!

It runs at a full 25fps (it can go much faster) on the release player. On the
same machine with the content debugger though, I only get 10fps.

It's not a problem for content that will be viewed by non-developers, but I
do wonder why it's so slow on the content debugger.

Hmm. I don't seem to have the source up for that (thought I did), you
 can
use a slightly older set of files from here:

 (This one has source)
 http://www.unfocus.com/2010/06/23/the-pixels-explode-explode/

If you are interested in the newer faster one (fast enough to work with
video - and a blur filter), I'd be happy to zip up the source and post
 it
 somewhere.

Quick note on the video example - it's sloow in content debugger
 builds. I don't know why.

Thanks a lot for showing that to me - I managed to get something
 working
which is both quick and relatively cool. I don't ever do a pixel by

explosion to save speed, smallest I go is 2px segments, but it's very
 quick
that way and looks nearly as cool. I am working on the explosion
 physics
 at
the moment (instead of just coming out from the displayObject, working
 in
 spirals, etc. for each piece).
