Re: [Flashcoders] Smart Preloading

2009-04-17 Thread Dennis - I Sioux

Hey Allandt,

Thanks for your reply.

I already found that one.. it was linked to from the earlier mentioned
Greensock.

Seems like that one can't load mc's from the library aswell..

I actually want to switch of the load before 1st .. and when entering a
new level.. load the level clips..(if not already loaded).

The UILoader mentions that it can load mc's aswell (at the source
property).. but there isn't any example on how to do it.. and the logical
ways aren't working.

Thanks

 Hi,

  There are a couple of sequential preloaders out there on the web - I
think greensock did on, but not 100% sure.

  It's possible that you can use these preload a list of movie clips in
the background. I wrote my own before finding queuing loader before
seeing
the others, so I don't know if they implement the same functionality:
to
interrupt the preloading queue when a specific level is requested and
put
the loading of that to the front of the queue. If you are not stopping
the
things caching in the browser, you might take a small hit re-loading
the

required level if it has not reloaded, but that is all.

I was already trying the same solution now.

Only bad thing is.. that if the level wasn't laoded yet.. there will be a

Actually, there is a crude way to do it which is uncheck the export on
first frame and then place each level on a subsequent keyframe in the
main

timeline (frames you'll never actually reach during playback). Flash will
load the keyframes in order so essentially, it will do what you're seeking
to do.

Re: [Flashcoders] Re: mouseEnabled Loader issue

2009-03-05 Thread Dennis - I Sioux

Ah.. sorry i was reading it wrong..

Your struture is
Stage of B.swf
 B_mc
   Loader of A.swf
A_mc

If you would set a B_mc.mouseEnabled = false; ... and listen for mouse
events on the stage of B..
and would click on A_mc .. your B stage would get an event with the target
of the value: loader of A.swf.

If you would set the loader Object o mouseEnabled false aswell.. you will
only get an event from the target A_mc.

As for the question about loader Object... yes every stage has a loaderinfo
.. you can use this to do preloading or access vars that are given by html
to your swf.

Good luck!

My problem is that if I capture the mouse_over event for the container

event

each time the mouse runs off one of the smaller sprites and over the
background.

Is there any way I can avoid this without using the mouse position?

Hello,

I am facing one of these White screens, and I must admin I am quite lost.
The project has more than 100 classes, and works fine if I comment some
of the 'imports'.
The options / solutions provided in this technote http://
kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do? externalId=kb405257sliceId=1
are ridiculous. SWC ? I cannot, won't. Loading in ? Man, this is
something I would prefer not be doing on such project.
I tried setting the JAVA_TOOLS_OPTIONS environment variable, but I don't
know if this was setup correctly, as setting 512MB does not solve the
problem.
The latest, and most optimistic solution i have is to use the ASC
compiler instead of Flash IDE. It seems the problem would go away.

Now, how can I (simply and quickly) compile one AS3 CS3 FLA (only
document class in it, with a few symbol exports) with ASC ?

if anyone has any info I would be more than thankful

Re: [Flashcoders] AS3 replacing Textfield Constructor

2008-08-22 Thread Dennis - I Sioux

I made the given AS2 code for a multilanguage class.
When a textfield comes on the screen it will use it's newly given
constructor, that has the code that it will register itself to my
multilanguage class.

This way i can collect, addept and update them accordingly.

Because i changed the textfield class itself.. the textfields placed on the
stage during development will use this constructor automatically at runtime.
This way i don't have to let other developers in our company, that aren't
feeling comfortable with scripted textfields, add code next to their
textfield to register it at the multilanguage.. or let them use a component.
But they can make stuff how they are used to.. and the multilanguage will
work without much hassle.

In AS3 .. i believe i can't addept the textfields constructor anymore..
unless i'm overlooking something?
Offcourse i could make a component.. or only use scripted textfields.. but i
would like it to be as flexible as possible.

Yeah, sorry, you've lost me now. the textfields won't give
a signal when they are initialized - can you explain that?
What kind of signal
- hand signals? Tornado siren? I can't go out with you
because I need to stay home and wash my hair.? ;)

I would guess it means they won't raise an initialize event, because he's
not invoking super() in his subclass's constructor.

2008-08-22 Thread Dennis - I Sioux

Hey Meril,

As i explained in the mail i just send, the use for this if more to also
catch the textfields already on stage.
To make it a low level action to let other developers here use multilanguage
without much effort.

If i use a subClass of Textfield.. i don't change the constructor of the
textfields already put on stage during development time (in the IDE)

Thanks though :)

Re: [Flashcoders] AS3 replacing Textfield Constructor

2008-08-21 Thread Dennis - I Sioux

Hey Jason and Ekameleon,

Thanks for the reply.

With the old AS2 code i used.. i could add extra code to the textfields
constructor(without destroying it :D ).
This resulted that both textfields by code and the ones put on the stage in
the IDE will have an altered constructor.

This was handy.. because some departments here favour to use the scripted
onces.. and other to place them on stage in the IDE. And i need to collect
all the textfields for my own actions (that was done with code in the new
constructor).

So if i use a custom textfield class.. the textfields placed on the stage
won't give a signal when they are initialised.

Now... i could make a component to catch both senario's.. but i rather not..

Any other thoughts?

Thanks

Hello :)

In AS2 or AS1 you can't override the TextField class... if you do that you
destroy the native class :)

You must use the prototype hack with the keyword __proto__ to change the
nature of your instances

Example :

_global.MyTextField = function()
{
   super();
   //
};

MyTextField.prototype.__proto__ = TextField.prototype ;

MyTextField.prototype.myCustomMethod = function() {}

var tf:TextField = createTextField(field, 1, 10,10,250,250) ;

// Hack the native instance with your custom class
tf.__proto__ = MyTextField.prototype ; // hack the prototype
MyTextField.call(tf) ; // launch the constructor

Now .. you can create a global function or a class, an helper to simplify
this hack :)

eKA+ :)

var bfrTextField = TextField;
var bfrStyleSheet = TextField.StyleSheet;

_global.TextField = function() {
super();
// Do extra code

// reattach the stylesheet class
   _global.TextField.StyleSheet = function() {

TextField.prototype = new bfrTextField();
TextField.StyleSheet.prototype = new bfrStyleSheet();
delete bfrTextField;
delete bfrStyleSheet;

Any help would be appreciated.

Viktor and  Glen are right..

The user has to initiate the geturl and it has to be on a onRelease so it's
as user friendly as possible.. by this way after pressing he can decide to
not releasing on the button anyway.

the allowScript access as a param is only needed when you'r swf is on a

for instance your site is site.myurl.com and your swf comes from
files.myurl.com

The Flash Player is a browser plugin (and presumably looks like a black

Subject: [Flashcoders] AS 2.0 (AS 3.0) question - knowing when a MovieClipis

AS2.0 question:

I have some AS2.0 swfs supplied to me (generated by captivate) that are
loaded as part of my application. Unfortunately they don't have a stop()
on the last frame, so they loop. Fortunately they are completely linear,
so they play through from start to finish (and over again).

I'd like to have them stop when they reach the last frame. About the only
way to do it that I can think of is to use onEnterFrame to monitor the
playhead of the loaded swf and and stop it when it hits that last frame.
Am I missing any other way of doing this?

I'm trying to avoid having the swfs regenerated.

AS3.0 question.

Currently my main application is written using AS 3.0 and having AS2.0 swf
supplied was a bit of an unexpected surprise. I realise that AS3.0 cannot
directly control an AS2.0 swf that's been loaded, but are there any
completely reliable solutions to communicating between these to allow the
AS3.0 application to send one-way messages to the AS2.0 swf?

Thanks,

Paul

[The swfs are actually swf versions of powerpoint slides. Sadly every
mechanism I can find for generating swf from powerpoint or via screen
capture only creates AS2.0 based swfs]

You don't need to know Flex to use the Flex SDK compiler...

I think the name probably confuses people, because it's both a
Flex and ActionScript compiler (correct me if I'm wrong).

I only program in ActionScript, using Flash Develop and the SDK.
Our compile times went from 1 minute down to 4 seconds when
we did the change in our company...

I think there is not so much to learn to do this move, but if the code
is mixed all over the multiple time lines in the IDE, then there can be
a lot of work to do separating the two.

You can create an actionscript project in Flex, see this tutorial:
http://www.gotoandlearn.com/player.php?id=60

Then you can create your graphics in Flash and use them as a SWC file in
Flex Builder.

If you create your SWC in flash you can even use Flash develop or FDT with
the Flex SDK, you don't need anymore Flex Builder.

Is that your question?

2 Weeks ago i mailed the same to the guys from MDM.
With some e-mail contact they came to a fix for that.

They used to buffer offscreen and then put everything in screen.
They changed it to the way Flash doess it aswell (directly to screen).
This is build in the FULL pc version. up from the 3.0.2 build.
So the trial is'indeed slow, but the new full version is verrryy fast..
about the same as a swf. :-D
If you are using transparant exe's it's not worth wile for you though, that
still works with the old buffer method.

significant decrease in performance with an AS3 SWF running in Zinc 3.0 on
windows compared with the Flash Player.

Using the flex sample at http://www.bubblemark.com/ I found that the

ran about 50% slower on Zinc than in the flash player (25-28 FPS in Zinc
and

47-50 FPS in the Standalone Flash Player 9).

Kind of a disappointment for a product touting itself as a game

platform for Flash. Has anyone else been down this road?

Note: I was testing with the trial version. Not sure if the trial

could slow down the performance that much or not.

It's essential that you use a Unicode font--I use Arial Unicode for Asian

languages, because it has all the languages I typically need. Embed the
font, of course.

Gotcha. This is fairly new to me so I've been reading as much as I can. I
found that true type fonts, like regular Arial, adhere to Unicode
standards. In Flash, if I use Arial I can embed Korean (Hangul), and a few
different Chinese glyphs. However, I cannot see the incoming UTF-8 encoded
chinese text from my XML. Russian and all my other languages are working
fine. But I get squares when trying to display Chinese or Korean, even
though the glyphs are embedded for both. Hmmm... do I need a different
font (Arial 'Unicode') or am I doing something wrong?

Thanks much.

Re: [Flashcoders] MultiLanguage

2008-01-21 Thread Dennis - I Sioux

I agree with Glen on the stringpanel part.
I've done a big project in the past with multilanguage games.. stringpanel
is a good start.. although if you want to give the user the possibility to
select the language at runtime you had to code that yourself into the
panel.. (that was made back in flash 7 though.. might be in there right now)
..

Translating it on forhand isn't always an option.. somtimes the product gets
popular and a new country/language is added..
The way we did it is to keep space for larger languages in the design.. and
if it isn't possible to translate it shorter.. it will always be a pain in
the @ss.. but there should be a balance to keep the designer/design happy
and the translations/translators good..

We made an extra panel to add character sets to all textfields on the press
of a button.. this way it is easier to add a new character set.

Hope this helps..

Hi,

   Look at using the Strings Panel - it's in FL8, probably in CS3. This
lets you attach an ID to all your text fields, etc. and define languages

start.

   You may also want to ensure all your translation is done before the
designer starts, otherwise they might start getting stressed when you ask
them to resize a button for German, etc.

You can than adress these TextFields and fill them with text from a

[Flashcoders] Extending Flash IDE, from 8 to 9

2008-01-07 Thread Dennis - I Sioux
Hey,

I was trying some of my flash IDE panels i made for Flash 8 in Flash 9.

Everything seems to work alright, with one exception..
The JSFL functions of flash seem to be run twice.
For example fl.getDocumentDOM().open(); will open the windows file select
popup.. after selecting the file.. the popup will be opened again.

Has anyone got experience with this and/or has a solution? :)

With kind regards,

Dennis

Subject: [Flashcoders] onKeyDown/Up fires twice in dynamic TextField

Hello,

in my current project the onKeyDown event is fired twice, when the key
is hit in Textfields.
I googled already this problem and always found only a description of
the same problem as my one but no solution. Anyone solved this
already?

Here's some example code (nothing special):

// trace Enter pressed twice, while Enter is pressed only once
keyListener.onKeyUp = function()
{
if (Key.getCode() == Key.ENTER)
trace(Enter pressed);
}

Thanks,

Re: [Flashcoders] fms application class

2007-08-09 Thread Dennis - I Sioux

Hey,

The client is not really an instance of the connection, but a representation
of the client connected (an id in form of an obj)..
Because FMS wouldn't want any client to call any function. for security
reasons (otherwise you could never build anything secure on it),
clients can only Call functions that are connected on the client (object
that represents themself on the server).

So it's not like when you add a function at the fms to the client.. what you
think is the direct connection.. that it would go tru the line to the
clients pc and add it there.

(if i'm guessing your thoughts right) :)

hey Andy,
thanks, yes this helps alot...i was confused about the client having the
definition and conceptually i still don't get what's remote about it...the
clientObj is an instance of the connection right? and that's instantiated
on the client-side right?...anyway as long as it works i'm not going to
quibble too much :)

On 8/8/07, Andy Herrman [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

The only way for a client to call a method is for that method to exist
on the Client's object. That's just the way the Flash RPC stuff
works. You can either add it to the Client prototype (which I don't
like) or add it to the client object after they connect (my preferred
way).

For instance:

application.onConnect = function(oClient, oParams) {
  this.acceptConnection(oClient);
  oClient.helloServer = function() {
trace(Hello Server);
  };
}

Or, you can get fancy and do some delegate-style work so that your
actual function is defined on application (or some other object):

application.helloServer = function() {
  trace(Hello Server);
}

application.onConnect = function(oClient, oParams) {
  this.acceptConnection(oClient);
  oClient.oScope = this;
  oClient.helloServer = function() {
this.oScope.helloServer.apply(this.oScope, arguments); };
}

The reason you're getting an error about the function not existing is
that it doesn't. When the client makes a call the server looks for a
function of the given name on the client's object. If it doesn't
exist you get an error.

I hope that helps!

yeah eka that seems to be a good solution but a bit resourceful depending
how deep the nested mcs are.

Surely there must be a native property or medoth to find the tree/path
from

the mc to the stage...

This is driving mad...

For the moment you can test :

package

 */
public function test()
{

var container:Sprite = new Sprite() ;

var container2:Sprite = new Sprite() ;
container2.graphics.beginFill(0xFF, 1) ;
container2.graphics.drawCircle(0, 0, 150) ;

addChild(container) ;
container.addChild(container2) ;

var target:String = getDisplayPathName(container2) ;

trace( target ) ;

}

static public function getDisplayPathName( display:DisplayObject
):String
{

var parents:Array = [] ;
var parent:* = display ;

while( true )
{
parents.push( parent.name ) ;
parent = parent.parent ;
if (parent.name == null)
{
break ;
}
}

parents.reverse() ;

return parents.join( . ) ;

}

}

but it's not the better solution lol

eKA+ :)

 Hi all,

 I am wondering how can I manage to find the path to where a MC belongs?

 in AS2 when you wanted the target to where the MC was all you had to do
 was
 to trace the movieclip instance. For instance cosider the following
 example:

 var mc:MovieClip = this.attachMovie(something , something0 , 0);
 var mc = mc.something0.attachMovie(somethingelse , somethingelse0 ,
 0);
 trace(mc) // _level0.something0.somethingelse0

 In AS3 since everything is a class everytime I trace an object i get
 its

 class name.

 So is there anyway of know the tree to where a mc belongs?

Hey,

Interesting thought for reducing filesize :)
If the brand's are known, you could always just incluse their characters..
but i take it you ment that.

I went for a look at the designers pc..99% sure it's Font Lab Studio
(version 5) ..

Their might be a newer one out.. or a better program for this..

But you can open your special font.. then open the installed arial font..
and you see all the spot's with their names for the special characters.

You can copy it and edit the single index you want.. with the y stuff.

Good luck with the project.. interested how it works out.

Thanks Dennis

This app needs 28 countries, i.e. the whole of Europe which is why we are
using Arial as it has the full character set needed including Armenian,
Cyrillic and Greek. It's just that I wanted to split it into its different
locales so that countries did not need to load in unwanted/unneeded font
sets. However I have just been informed that the company will need the
latin

font set to a certain extent as they will want to include there
brand/product names which are all in latin. So for the other languages,
i.e.

Cyrillic, Armenian and Greek I shall embed only the basic latin along with
Upper/Lower, punctuation and numerals along with their specific language
set. I am hoping that should cover it...

I did do a project a few months ago which got translated from English to
welsh and we had problems with the font. The font was a bespoke
handwritten

font which did not have the welsh character of a y with a hat/circumflex
so if you know of a bit of software that enables you to extend a character
set then I would definitely like to know. It was an absolute nightmare
converting all that text into another font...

Some fonts we had to extend though.. you got small programs for that..
easy enough to extend the special fonts you'r using.
Don't remember if we had to extend Arial though.. i believe it pretty
mutch covered everything.
Don't know about Greek either though..

Hope this helps you along..

I'm just saying.. when i do that.. and i don't put any script on the

If i do put something on it.. even if it's just comments the onLoad will be

For your point.. as far as i know.. frame script is called first and then
the graphics.. so either way the onload would be put on first.. as far as i

Unless when there is script or comments on the mc that it get's in a

Hi,
what i meant was:

If you do:
this.test_mc.onLoad = function(){
trace(onLoad);
}

Then the test_mc is either there or not. If it's there, it has been loaded
already and you are overwriting the function after the fact. If it's not
there.. well it's not there...

At least that is how I think it works. I never use it myself so i might be
wrong :)

 am I right in thinking you are putting a movieclip on the stage and try

 By the time the object is available for you to act upon, its onLoad is
 already executed, so overwriting it is no use.

Hi Dennis,

I have experienced this with the FCS 1.5 - thought it to be fixed in FMS
2.1.

Good to know - need to check it out.
As a work around one could try to loop thru the connected clients server
side
and ask the client to confirm that he ist still there on a regular basis
( performance hit though )

by using a client call - on fail kick the client ( uuuh tricky ...:)

lets see what happens once adobe knows that - would be nice of the m to
fix it :)

After a while (up to 10 min) the fms will throw the user out the list..
But by then the client could have reconnected again.. will get new Client

Off course this can be solved with ducktape and ping commands every now

load their boxes with components that require proprietary drivers. And
tsr programs that suck ram and slow performance.

Subject: [Flashcoders] Moving cursor to end of textfield

I have a fill-in-the-gaps exercise and I have added a hint button which
checks to see which part of the word a student has entered is correct and
then adds the next (correct) letter to the end of the string. My problem is
that the cursor stays just in front of the added letter instead of going to
the end of the string. I've tried selecting the letter that has just been
added and for a second the last letter is highlighted but then the cursor
goes back to its original place. Here's the code I'm using:

function showLetter() {
  //get the text the student has entered
  currentWord = eval(gap+currentGap).gap_txt.text;
  currentLength = currentWord.length;
  newText = ;
  correctText = gWords[currentGap];
  lastLetter = 0;
  //compare it one letter at a time to the correct answer
  for (j=0; jcurrentWord.length; j++) {
  if (currentWord.charAt(j) == correctText.charAt(j)) {
  newText += correctText.charAt(j);
  lastLetter = j;
  } else {
  break;
  }
  }
  currentLength = newText.length;
  //show the correct portion of the text plus the next (correct)
letter
  eval(gap+currentGap).gap_txt.text = gWords[currentGap].substr(0,
currentLength+1);

  eval(gap+currentGap).gap_txt.setTextFormat(numFormat);
  //select the last letter - this does not move the cursor
  Selection.setSelection(currentLength,currentLength+1);

}

I would appreciate any ideas on how this could be done.

Thanks,

Birgit

Re: [Flashcoders] flash.media.Camera.setMode Freeze SWF

2007-03-14 Thread Dennis - I Sioux

Hey Luciano,

Actually the .names only returns an array with cam's.. flash makes that
array at the start of the swf.

But like Anthony Lee said.. setMode is a method to give the preffered size
and framerate you want to grab the video.
Although the result might differ a bit because it will be compared with the
native modes the cam offers.
Only add is: When given another argument of true you will prefer searching
the right size over framerate.

For info check :
http://www.flash-communications.net/technotes/setMode/index.html

This shouldn't give any troubles.. you first have to do a Camera.get();
though... just for is the plug in question :-D

Tested with different browsers, computers, cams?

If you mean something like giving it a hidden tag to identify where
one in the wild came from, maybe Swfmill could help. It can convert an
existing SWF to XML, you edit that, maybe a property name or text in a
hidden textfield, then convert it back to SWF.

Re: [Flashcoders] Changing the computer code of a swf file?

2007-02-09 Thread Dennis - I Sioux

It's more a way to protect swf's with a bit of security..

and the reason the thought came up was because of the fact no one works like
that anymore since the 1940ies :-D
If you publish a fla with 1 var _root.test and open the swf in notepad you
will see the var in between the code..
When you put 2 vars in the fla.. it becomes a formula and the vars can't be
read directly anymore..

I'd like to dynamiclly hide a var by adding it to the swf source code :)

Long shot i know.. more the curiosity by now:-D

Kind regards,

Dennis

Modifying code to change the values of variables is a pretty roundabout
way to write code.

A jump back to the 1940s'. Not often seen in these days.

Re: [Flashcoders] Capturing FMS video streams from multiple cameras

2007-01-07 Thread Dennis - I Sioux

Hey Tomas,

Look at the Camera.get()..

Just like the Microphone class.. you can get a list of available devices..
and use the index in the list as an argument to give with the .get()

Hope this helps.

Subject: [Flashcoders] Capturing FMS video streams from multiple cameras

Hello,

does anybody know if it is possible to capture and record video on Flash
Media Server from multiple cameras on one system?

Our client needs to capture one video at a time but would like to be able
to

select which camera will capture and record the live stream to FMS.
Is Flash capable to select which camera will capture the stream?
Or is there any other solution you would choose to achieve this?

thanks in advance

You can't do that with Flash. In fact, the only types of applications I
know that support that are professional audio suites like Cubase, Logic, and
ProTools and even then you have to spend time configuring them.

2007-01-05 Thread Dennis - I Sioux

Hey Weyert,

It's for a projecter..
It will be shown on a computer of my own.. on a presentation location.
At the location users have to have the possibility to switch between boxes
and a headphone.. preferable by flash instead of a hardware switch.

The only thing running is flash.. so that sound is enough.. and even if it's
only an incomming mic-stream from fms.. would make me very happy :-D

We'r looking into .NET sollutions right now.. but avoiding it is always
better:)

Any suggestions?

Hi Dennis,

This sounds like you won't able to do a Flash only trick. But when it's a
project you can indeed make use of .NET you might
want to look at the Mixer or SoundMapper functionality which comes with
the Multimedia API [1,2, 3, 4] of Windows. This makes it possible
to tell to which audio device (input or output) the sound should be
redirected too. Good luck ;-)

p.s. Maybe you can use Managed DirectX when using .NET. I have to admit I
haven't done much music stuff, though. Maybe it's just easier to change
the (audio) settings in the registry temporarily, though.

Re: [Flashcoders] simple gotoAndPlay :: Am I losing my mind?

2006-10-11 Thread Dennis - I Sioux
Is the mc nested very deep? I've seen weird reactions in the past with
stubern mc's with nesting.

What happens when you gotoAndPlay to for example 36 or 15? still goes to 34?
Do you have code somewhere else (that you forgot) that sends it to 34. (just
check with the movieexplorer)

What's going on here...?

I have this one file where frame 75 is named noPix.
I load some vars and tell it to gotoAndPlay(noPix) if some var is
false.

I end up in frame 34.

I tell it to gotoAndPlay(75);
I end up in frame 34.

I check if framesloaded =75.
It returns true.

I rename the frame to make sure I'm not using the same name somewhere.
I still end up in frame 34...

In all cases, it jumps directly to frame 34. There is no frame name in
frame 34, there are no actions on that frame.

I put the gotoAndPlay action in a seperate function.
Still end up in frame 34

I'm going nuts here...

I don't suppose anyone has a clue?

Thanks,
Serge

Re: [Flashcoders] simple gotoAndPlay :: Am I losing my mind?

2006-10-11 Thread Dennis - I Sioux
The fact that you can't gotoAndPlay past 34.. but can go to 16 could
indicate that indeed it isn't loaded or somehting.. but you've tested
that...
What happens when you just play the mc... en set a framecounter in it or
something for display... does it go beyond 34?

Kind regards,

Dennis

There is absolutely no function that is going to that frame 34...
There is no onEnterFrame besides my debugging onEnterFrame function to
check the currentframe...
When I put a gotoAndStop(75) in my onEnterFrame, it still passes
through frame 34 before going to 75...

gotoAndStop(16) works.
gotoAndStop(40) goes back to 34

I am really losing it... I'm just taking a wild guess but I'd say this
file is somehow messed up or something. I honestly have no clue why it
just keeps going back to that frame... :/

Appreciate the help!

Unbelievable... I've found the devil child...

There was a preloader-graphic (just graphics, no actions) in my swf
that was being loaded from a shared library. I took it out of the
shared lib and embedded it in the swf and now it works...

Really unbelievable... Thank you all for your suggestions! After copy-
pasting everything to a new file, I ended up finding this one with
switching every single layer to guide layers, exporting and enabling
every single layer and exporting... And then I found it...

Thanks again,

[Flashcoders] FLV size

2006-09-14 Thread Dennis - I Sioux

Hey,

I have a strange situation with converting avi's to flv.
When I convert a 4 minute 720x576 avi to a 720x576 flv the file size is 25,6
MB

But when I convert the same video to a 320x256 flv the size is 24,1 MB

So the difference in filesize is very little compared to the difference in
video size.

I would expect it to be half the MB size.

Anybody familiar with this weird outcome?

Regards,

Dennis

Hey Mikko Törmälä,

Thanks for the feedback.

Actually i don't have access to the showing servers.. as i am chekcing out
the posibilities for a security against deeplinking..

That's the reason that flashvars isn't enough security to test it with.

Thanks though.. if you have any more thoughs i'd love to hear them.

Create a container swf on the showing server for the other swf.
Then grab the _url from the container swf. If this isn't possible for you
(ie. you can't place swfs on the showing server) I think the only option
left is to pass the url via flashvars to the embedded movie.

Re: [Flashcoders] _url

2006-05-26 Thread Dennis - I Sioux

Hey Johan,

Thanks for the feedback.

The reason i asked was to prevent deeplinking..
In some way the js is an option to make it somewhat harder.. but it is
prevered that when another site downloads the game and hosts it itself that
it will work.. also the js is easy to workaround.. it's a good start
though.. .. the second opion is easier to tamper with so that's not of use
in this case..

Thanks though.. if you have any more thoughs i'd love to hear them.

I don't think you can. Not in a reliable way that is. You could make a get
url that runs some javascript that looks up the window.location.href and
sends it to a variable inside flash using setVariable() method
(http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?id=tn_15683)

But I'm not sure that this will work if the swf and html is on different
domains.

Other ways are to let the HTML page itself pass it's url. But that easily
tampered with.

Hello all,

This is probably very Zinc specific, but I'll give it a try, in case
someone
can suggest something useful. If it's too off-topic, my apologies in
advance.

I have an application made with Zinc, with the .exe not having the Flash
OCX included.
So, in order for it to work, it has to rely on the installed Flash
player on the user's computer
(ActiveX, installation by Internet Explorer).

The question is how I can detect the Flash Player version the user has
installed, if any.
You see, the application needs Flash 8 in order to run, so if the user
has an older version
or no flash at all, I would like to take him to the macromedia website
to download.

It seems to me that I have to write a script in Zinc, to check for the
flash player version.
Is that so? Or it there anything else I can do?

Thanks!

Re: [FlashCoders] Tricky(?) Flash Version detection

2006-05-08 Thread Dennis - I Sioux
With the old FSP there was a difference with the player you could embed and
the flashplayer.. but maybe not with zync anymore..
but the vb and fs script makes sense.. but is that from within Zinc itself?
because then you need to turn an swf into the exe.. that will execute the
script? then it's back to the first problem:)

Isn't it more handy to execute that vb/c++ script firsts.. that detects it
and that opens a zinc or sends you to the macromedia site?

.. also you could use a standard zync installer.. with the option to go to
macromedia.. but that's kinda lame :-D

If he wanted to do that, he'd embed the player. ;-)

Anyway, there is a better option if that route is preferred; FSP / Zinc
can also execute vb and fs scripts, and there are plenty of those for
Flash detection available.

Re: [Flashcoders] How To Detect the FullScreen mode of the swf file

2006-04-25 Thread Dennis - I Sioux

As someone mentioned before.. you could use Stage.showMenu = false
this way you can catch the ctrl+F to see if someone is fullscreen.

You could also use a holder movieclip.
Don't set the scale mode to showall but use an onlistner on the stage to
see if the stage is scaled, then you could scale the holder movieclip
accordingly.

_root._xscale is always equal to 100 coz of which the movieWidth and

We are using Stage.scalemode = showall.

Here is the code, I haven't tested it:

var movieWidth = _root._xscale*Stage.width/100;
var movieHeight = _root._yscale*Stage.height/100;

On 4/25/06, elibol [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

param name=showMenu value=false/

or

Stage.showMenu = false;

In your case, your width and height are theoretically unchanged. Your
movie is scaled. If you take the scale percentage do some arithmetic

with

the actual width and height you can get the pixel value of your movie.

say Stage.width and Stage.height is 123 x 162

say _root is scaled to 150 x 133

123*150/100 = your movie width
162*133/100 = your movie height

Divide by 100 to normalize the value, we are thinking in terms of
percentages.

Hope this helps,

M.

 Hi Karan,
 Try using the Stage.Width and Stage.Height methods.
 U will be returned with the dimensions the flash player is using.
 You need to compare the returned value to the array of of existing
 screen

 Google one, I m sure u would get one.

[Flashcoders] Loading Swf files in site (protecting bandwith from other sites)

2006-02-20 Thread Dennis - I Sioux
We are trying to protect our swf-files from loading by others (protecting our
bandwidth).

Searching the net, no solution could be found for this. We want our users
flashfiles to be loaded from our site,
but rejected when called from other sites to secure our bandwidth.

NOTE: The flashfiles are submitted content, so we can't change them.

Does anyone have a suggestion on how to do this correctly?

-
On a more technical note (for those that wish to know what we tried) :

- We tried PHP to parse the files, using an swf header. This works in most
cases, but appearantly some swf files do not work
correctly (it looks fine at first, but things go bad when using the swf). Even
though the parsed file is both in Header
as in content equal (to the bit, checked that in filesize and in code) the code
behaves differently than the
original swf.(for instance when a key is pressed a characters animation will
play but won't be moved around).

- Now we'r trying to secure a webdirectory (with ModRewrite), to not load swf
files when not refered to by our site, but object and embed
tags do not pass on a referer in the header, thus blocking all requests or
simple not blocking any.

Many Thanks

Re: [Flashcoders] Loading Swf files in site (protecting bandwithfromother sites)

2006-02-20 Thread Dennis - I Sioux

Doesn't really sound like a solution..

What i ment was that people don't deeplink/hotlink our swf.
So checking the url or making the page go on top isn't really a solution..

People could always track down the direct path to the swf

Thanks though.

Best regards,

Dennis

Check the url of the page in the browser, if it isn't your url then
display another message.

Secondly, have a javascript function on the page that makes sure it is
the top level page (stops people from loading you into a frame).

I've only heard of this in regards to images, but it's termed hotlinking.
There's bound to be a bunch of solutions to it.

Hey Jim,

This is about the first thing we did.. but it's really poor for security
though.. you have it open in a sec.. and if if you'r not able to do that you
can catch the http request.. and see everything that is going on..

Because regular visitors won't hotlink anyway you have to count this option
out.

Thanks though!

sorry, I read too fast, this won't work with submitted swf's if you can't
get into them. Might try to see if you created a container swf that loaded
the submitted swf might work?

How about if you put a bit of actionscript in your swf to prevent it from
being displayed on any other url? It's not perfect - the swf can be broken
into and the code found, but it prevents regular surfers from grabbing the
swf and placing it on any other url, (including hot-linking to your swf
from

another url), and also prevents viewing the swf if it is downloaded to a
hard drive.
thttp://jimbo.us/Games/Test.html
http://jimbo.us/Games/Test.swf
http://jimbo.us/Games/Test.fla

Try loading/viewing this swf on any other url, or downloading and viewing
the swf from your hard drive. Just two frames of code, placed before your
real content.

Re: [Flashcoders] Short Key/window focus question

2006-01-23 Thread Dennis - I Sioux

Hey

Indeed js doesn't seem to be the solution.. because i wouldn't know a way to
set the focus to the flahs object instead of the browser..
and to push key events from js to flash seems impossible en in't really an
option for this project.

Your idea on the localconnection i don't understand what you ment
there..(although i'm familiar with the local connection)
But i don't have access to the local machine.. and have to work in a pretty
normal broswer surrounding.. without any plugins or stuff..

Thanks.. but doess anyone else has something?

Hello!

Well..I think it shouldn't be difficult to catch the key events in
JavaScript and send them to Flash.

Another question is how to catch those events outside the browser... I
guess you should have anything running on the system (win, linux,
mac), catch the events and send them with LocalConnection to the flash
movie running in the browser...but how do you give the focus to the
browser?

It doesn't sound easy at least for me!

Bye!

[Flashcoders] LocalConnection

2005-11-18 Thread Dennis - I Sioux
Hey,

i was wondering if anyone knwos how long a localconnection channel will be kept
open after closing the swf.

This is because i have a localconnection system in one swf to prevent the user
from opening the same window twice(for security).

We have a situation where someone opens the swf.. closes it again.. then opens
it again.. .. and in this situation there is another connection found,
so it opens our error that two windows are open.

Many thanks!

Re: [Flashcoders] LocalConnection

2005-11-18 Thread Dennis - I Sioux

Hey,

Don't know the term propagate.. but php sessions are used.

Only for security reasons we can't block users by sessions.

I did the localConnection check only on the onStatus by the way..
I guess i'll use a returning send back.. so i'm sure the onStatus isn't
given by the flash engine from cahcing or something

due to a lagging computer.

Thanx,

Dennis
