Re: [Flashcoders] Playing big FLV files (locally) - where's the problem ?
You can sure use RED5 but if all you need to do is play the video, setting up and maintaining a server might be a lot of work. Look into multiple FLV file playing. It plays a list of FLV files seamlessly, but it has many advantages. I know it's been done but I'm quite sure the source hasn't been released. It sucks though that in a place like the Philippines (where I am), people aren't into this technology so much yet. They almost always think that Flash is for fast computers and high bandwidth. Most likely, even if a team feels they are quite skilled, their skills are not tested or pushed to the limit. To answer your questions, yes it's quite active. Re: [Flashcoders] CacheAsBitmap advice
I've posted this before, but it may help you: http://board.flashkit.com/board/showthread.php?t=659163 As you can see in that post, if you do any scaling or rotation to a cachedAsBitmap MovieClip, it temporarily becomes a vector again, just to update itself. That class can force a movieclip to stay as a bitmap, even if you make it super big. Of course, it'll get blurry if it's too big. Key is to taking a snapshot of what you want at the biggest size it'll be, or updating the bitmap data when it's at it's biggest size. Re: [Flashcoders] Fwd: Application Framework
It looks like you need xfactorstudio's xml xpath :) And yes, Flash can do what you need it to do here On 9/1/06, Jeff Brown [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Hello List. I'm a programer with a good background in PHP, Smarty, MySql, javascript and other web technologies. I'm working on an application that needs to blend PHP and Flash components together. Since I haven't touched flash since way back in the dark ages, I'm a little put off at the current interface. (Not in a 'I-hate-you' way, but more in a 'Will-this-do-what-I'm-thinking' way). Okay, this boils down to two different questions. Esentially the app is a database driven lookup engine. The PHP/Smarty will decide based on user input and business logic to display an item. The PHP templates need to write out the HTML/XHTML for a Flash component. Question 1: Assuming my item id is 123 and my template writes: param name=i_id value=123 / into the object/object block, can my flash's action script 'get' the variable i_id. And would my action script be able to use i_id as a variable directly? (I've seen some sort of confirmation of this on the list, but no qualitative answer). Question 2: Now assuming my flash has the id, it needs to load an XML file from the web server, based on the id. as in http://my.server.com/myapp/xmlfile123.xml Obviously interpolating the value of i_id into the url it uses. (behind the scenes, the server uses an URL Rewrite to map http://my.server.com/myapp/xmfile123.xml to http://my.server.com/xmlgen.php?i_id=123 which is a PHP script that 'speaks' XML and produces an xml file filled with database data) The xml contains a list of categories and their colors and a list of related items and their details that will be something like the following: ---xml code--- data grouplist group id=1 name=a group name bgcolor=#aabff fgcolor=#882299 highlight=#33 / group id=2 name=the second name bgcolor=#bbaaee fgcolor=#882299 highlight=#AA8844 / ... /grouplist itemlist item id=456 group=1 name=my first item name url=http://my.server.com/myapp/show/456 / item id=789 group=1 name=another item name url=http://my.server.com/myapp/show/789 / item id=333 group=2 name=third name url= http://my.server.com/myapp/show/333; / ... /itemlist /data --/xml code--- With me so far? In theory, I can use the action script call: -code getxmldata = new XML(); getxmldata.load(xmlfile + i_id + .xml, ); /code to load this up. I've seen some examples of this. And I've seen examples of loading the attributes for a give 'node' (as in the group or item tags above). But I'm not sure how to process the grouplists and itemlists. I mean do you think this could be processed with: -code- /* ** Note, I'm basing nearly all of this on code examples, but I'm flying halfway blind. I'm not certain that an XML sub object ** suports 'firstChild, 'lastChild' or 'nextSibling' If not, I'd like to know what to use. */ if (getxmldata.loaded) { var grouplist= getxmldata.firstChild; var itemlist = getxmldata.lastChild; var groups:Array = []; var items:Array= []; var last = grouplist.lastChild; var group = grouplist.firstChild; do { groups[group.attribute.id] = group; group= group.nextSibling; } while (group != last); last = itemlist.lastChild; var item = itemlist.firstChild; do { items[item.attribute.id] = item; item = item.nextSibling; } while (item != last); } /code- Or is there a better way to handle all of this? Re: [Flashcoders] |:::| can you write dynamic meathods in a class?
I don't think you can create dynamic functions.. even if you could, I don't see the need to. use your arguments to make your functions all-purpose. Ex. function onBtnPress(n:Number):Void { trace(n + was pressed.); } button0.onRelease = Delegate.create(this, onBtnPress, 0); button1.onRelease = Delegate.create(this, onBtnPress, 1); On 8/12/06, Bbt Lists [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Hi there Can you write dynamic methods in a class? for example for (var i:Number = 0; i 11; i++) { function onBtnPress + i() { trace(Button number: + i + was pressed); } } So then that would essentially create 10 methods (onBtnPress0 to onBtnPress9) to be used by various onPress events. Is this possible? Then at the same time you could write the delegate and create the buttons and so one as well. Then continuing on my thought - could you then over-write the onBtnPress functions with new values (say for example the trace would be: trace(Button number: + i + was pressed with the currValue of + externalVariable); instead of the original: trace(Button number: + i + was pressed); I am a hobby AS coder, and I am probably way off here. Re: [Flashcoders] Custom cacheAsBitmap with scale and rotate
The problem with that is once you rotate or scale it it reverts back to vector. Also another neat thing about dynamically forcing something to become a bitmap is it makes your sites loads smaller (as compared to raster), if it's a largely vector site. The problem with largely vector drawings is that they're slowww... hence, you can get the best of both worlds with the BitmapDataManager. You should be able to use double quotes surrounding the expression you are looking for... XPath.selectNodes(_xml, //[EMAIL PROTECTED] + sReleasedLabel + \]/ @writeup)[0]; This is something that wouldn't work in an xpath statement in an XML file, but you should be able to get away with it in ActionScript depending on whether the xpath library you are using supports this notation. Re: [Flashcoders] Slightly OT (Hello world! and so forth ;)
How do YOU work in Flash? -Timeline - I try to create the graphics that don't need to be dynamic in the IDE. - Those that need to be highly dynamic are made using AS - I animate what I can using the IDE, but if it'll be dynamic and might be controlled at any time, I use AS to animate. -Scripting (OOP, scope, frames) I love delegate and eventdispatcher. I avoid onEnterFrame, I try to use Intervals instead -Tools (external scripting, other external tools) FlashDevelop, MTASC -Built in behaviors and objects (Use / don´t use) I use a lot of these - I use all that I can. This is a bit vague :o -Putting it all together (multiple cooks?) I recently tried having a main class that puts everything together. It makes error checking hell of a lot easier. How do YOU structure a project? Let´s say i´m making a custom video interface. Pretty straightforward. and i´ve got 1 dynamicaly loading videoclip. 1 set of player buttons (Play, Pause, Stop, FFW, REW) 1 volume control 1 animated playhead (with the posibility to drag it to any spot in the video) I've made classes for these already. - VideoStreamer is made of a bunch of classes that take care of loading, the sound, etc. - VideoStreamer uses VideoLoader that has it's own smart buffer - To instantiate VideoStreamer, I just pass as an arg an embedded video object that is on stage. - ProgressBar class, of which I pass the needed movieclips that become the played progress bar, the downloaded progress bar, and the background bar. - The progress bar is the one that takes care of dragging the playhead only in the region of the downloaded progress bar has achieved. - Then, to put it neatly together, I made a VideoPlayer classes that uses the VideoStreamer and the Progress bar (and a volume slider, but it's not part of the question), listens to the their events and puts it together in such a way that it works super neat. So, if I was gonna make ur project now, I'd do something like this on the timeline: import ...VideoPlayer; var vp:VideoPlayer = new VideoPlayer(video, playProgBar, dlProgBar); //then for the extra buttons if I need any: buStop.onRelease = Delegate.create(vp, vp.stop); buPause.onRelease = Delegate.create(vp, vp.pause); buPlay.onRelease = Delegate.create(vp, vp.play); Gosh here I am pressed for time with two deadlines tomorrow and I'm answering this! Re: [Flashcoders] Wherefore the evils of _global?
I suppose it's the use of variables in _global. That's what I avoid. Else, 5 years later, when you've got extensive classes, and something ddoesn't work, it might be because some variables overwrite one another in _global. That'd take almost forever to debug. I understand why _root can be troublesome, especially in conjunction with dynamically loaded SWFs, but I do use it in a pinch. I mean, heck, sometimes a movie is just a movie, not a portable app. What I don't understand -- and I hasten to say I have no opinion on the matter, yet -- is why _global is so shunned. Re: [Flashcoders] Flash MX2004, Video CD with auto-play {Director v. Flash??}
Director is really made for CD authoring, however, for what you want to do, Flash is sufficient. On 3/19/06, Michael Hulse [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Hi, The subject-line pretty much says it all... My question is this: Is Flash MX 2004 comparable to director when it comes to CD authoring? If the above answer is no, then how-a-bout the latest version of Flash? [Flashcoders] Help with custom class that uses Sound. Needs = MX 2k4
Hey everyone, I've been at this problem for several days now. I'm afraid I won't be able to figure it out because of the elusiveness of the problem. It only comes out when I play the SWF/EXE, but it works just as expected when I do the test movie. It also works fine online. I built a class called SoundStreamer that uses SoundLoader. It's a class that's basically like sound class but I wanted a smart buffer. However, to be able to use a smart buffer I'll have to edit the TLEN tag in the ID3 v2 tag. All the files are in one zip: http://share.quirkworks.net/sound%20test.zip It includes the FLA, the classes, and the sample mp3. Try testing it using test movie, then publish it and play the swf alone. I also use LuminicBox Logger. You may or may not install this. It makes AS coding life a lot easier though. It's dirty simple: 1) Unzip http://share.quirkworks.net/LuminicBox.zip into your class path. 2) Run the SWF that's in http://share.quirkworks.net/FlashInspector.zip Please, I direly need your help. [Flashcoders] Help with BitmapData - BitmapDataManager
Hey guys, I quickly whipped something up before. It's called the BitmapDataManager. It's a class that allows a movieclip to stay as a bitmap so that it's easier to animate complex vector data. For more info read http://www.flashkit.com/board/showthread.php?t=659163 This is where I need help: right now, scaling the movieclip that will be rasterized and then rasterizing it doesn't work. It still takes a snapshot, but it does like as if it were still its orig size. It's hard to explain. Look at the fla. :) Here's the source: http://share.quirkworks.net/net-BitmapDataManager.rar Here's the class implemented with the examples I'm talking about: http://share.quirkworks.net/bdm_test.fla Yup, you need Flash 8. I'm sure I could just edit the Matrix or something like that and input the scaled size so that it takes the correct snapshot, but I can't seem to figure it out. -- Ramon Miguel M. Hi Mike, I might be wrong, but there isn't any way to tell a flv file to play a certain frame. mc.swapDepths(getNextHighestDepth() ) works with me. It puts it above the rest. Parameters target:Object - This parameter can take one of two forms: - A Number that specifies the depth level where the movie clip is to be placed. - A String that specifies the movie clip instance whose depth is swapped with the movie clip for which the method is being applied.
