[Flashcoders] Using BitmapData.draw() with masked items

2011-07-28 Thread allandt bik-elliott (thefieldcomic.com)
hey folks

I'm having an issue with BitmapData.draw(). If i try to use it on a masked
item, i get strange results (usually nothing). If i unmask the item first, i
get a result as expected but obviously no mask.

Is there any way to do both? I'm thinking I'll have to loop through all of
the pixels in the mask and the image and use copyPixels() for each one that
falls under the mask colour but that seems VERY processor intensive.

any ideas?

thanks

thanks for your time guys

henrik got it - i stored a reference to the item, it's parent and it's mask
and pulled them into another sprite and grabbed that - worked a treat

private function addItemToBitmapData(item:Sprite, bmd:BitmapData,
mat:Matrix):void
{
var itemParent:DisplayObjectContainer;
var itemMask:DisplayObject;
var holdingContainer:Sprite = new Sprite();
itemParent = item.parent;
itemMask = item.mask;
 holdingContainer.addChild(item);
holdingContainer.addChild(itemMask);
bmd.draw(holdingContainer, mat);
 itemParent.addChild(item);
itemParent.addChild(itemMask);
}

thanks again

 make the rectangle whichever dimensions you care about, but that might do

 Greetings all,

 I made a quick post about something I'd like to solve and someone out there
 might be able to help me.

 http://imagineric.ericd.net/2011/06/16/question-bitmap-distorting-the-bottom-half-of-the-stage/

 Here is a near copy and paste of the post describing the crux of what I am
 after...

 What I would like to do is to have a Stage with a DisplayObject or perhaps
 several DisplayObjects – which can animate around.

 When these objects pass a boundary (1/2 of the Stage height), I would like
 to distort all those images by applying a Bitmap transformation… but only
 to
 the portion that crosses that boundary.

 The bottom half of the Stage would need to update itself constantly to
 properly display the effect in real time. I’ve done some Bitmap things in
 the past, but I am not quite sure what the correct approach for this might
 be.

 I’ve seen plenty of stuff where you can drag the corners of a photograph
 around (

 http://edvardtoth.com/flash/flashfun/basic-bitmap-distortion-using-triangles-and-uvs-source/
 ),
 but I’ve not seen where this could be applied to something like what I am
 after. Without digging too deeply I think I just need to update the
 BitmapData for the bottom Bitmap every frame – *but curious about the
 offset
 stuff…*

 I am looking for sage advice or even some code to get this rolling. If it
 takes a while it might be interesting to see how you landed where you did
 and how I approached the problem.

 Thanks for any and all consideration.

Re: [Flashcoders] stageListeners in as2.0

2011-05-23 Thread allandt bik-elliott (thefieldcomic.com)
Hi

I take it this is as2

Usually to center a clip, I would use the following :
clip.x = Stage.width / 2 - clip.width / 2;
clip.y = Stage.height / 2 - clip.height / 2;

Other than that I would start looking at how you're scoping your code by
using trace(this) within your functions to see if you're scoped to the same
place as the item you're trying to move

[Flashcoders] What is up with adobes documentation?

Hey folks

Every time I do a big search I seem to get a LOT of as2 links and when I add
as3 into the search terms I keep getting links to either a page offering up
a bunch of generic documentation pages (ie not direct links to the class I'm
looking for) or I get class documentation pages that are only half full.
Seriously do a search on the livedocs site for the flvplayback class, its
shocking especially in light of the fact that there is no longer any local
docs installed with the software any more

What is going on with this? With people (rightly or wrongly) bashing flash
in favour of the yet untried html5 spec, adobe can ill afford this kind of
crap support for the flash platform.

Hi guys

I'm trying to use the Facebook Actionscript graph api but I seem to be
having problems in IE (other browsers like chrome and firefox seem okay so
far).

From what i can tell, it's logging in fine and returning the user id but
when i do a lookup on that user with Facebook.api(_user, handleUserRequest);
I get an error.

Is there any known problems with the Facebook Actionscript graph api that
affects IE only?

the error is as follows:

[IOErrorEvent type=ioError bubbles=false cancelable=false
eventPhase=2 text=Error #2032: Stream Error. URL:

[Flashcoders] Re: [SOLVED] facebook actionscript graph api - post to /feed

2011-04-15 Thread allandt bik-elliott (thefieldcomic.com)
Hey

Do you know if it's possible to retrieve user ids from the request_ids array
returned by the Facebook.ui(apprequests, ) dialogue?

I've tried the following:

Facebook.ui(apprequests, { message:select some friends },
handleAppRequest, iframe);

which allows the selection of friends to tell about the app. I then do the
following:

private function handleAppRequest(result:Object):void
{
 for (var i:int = 0; i  result.request_ids.length; i++)
 {
 var requestID:String = result.request_ids[i];
 Facebook.api(/ + requestID, handleRequestFriends);
 }
}

to select the friends returned in the result object (which I think might be
where I'm going wrong - i don't think that request_ids == facebook user
ids), and then this returns a fail:

private function handleRequestFriends(success:Object, fail:Object):void
{
 if (success) trace(success);
 else trace(fail);
}

Thanks in advance

okay i got it

it should be the following:

Facebook.ui(apprequests, { message:select some friends },
handleAppRequest, iframe);

private function handleAppRequest(result:Object):void
{
 for (var i:int = 0; i  result.request_ids.length; i++)

 var requestID:String = result.request_ids[i];
 Facebook.api(/ + requestID, handleRequestFriends);
 }
}

private function handleRequestFriends(success:Object, fail:Object):void
{
 if (success)
 {
 var values:Object =
 {
 access_token:Facebook.getSession().accessToken,
 name:This is my title,

 Facebook.api(/ + friendID + /feed, handleSubmitFeed, values,
URLRequestMethod.POST);
 }
 else
 {
 Debug.logObject(fail, this, handleRequestFriends);
 }
}

One question tho - can i use the facebook friend selector and just return
the results without the apprequest firing off to them?

  Flash has been losing steam for a long time.

  The base of noobies got away from Adobe. The tools are too expensive and
 complicated.
 The players and platform too disjointed with: PC Flash, phone Flashlite,
 Linux Flash and no Apple Flash.

  Buyers want their content/app investments to work on the high end mobile
 tools and that means Apple.

  Apple's decision to ban Flash makes sense - Firefox crawls sometimes with
 multiple browser windows hogging resources for several Flash ads on most
 pages.

  Flash's ease of use went horribley wrong somewhere in the last few years.
  It requires at least twice as much code to do the same stuff compared to
 earlier iterations of the language - and twice as long to learn the nuances
 too. Not to mention abandoning the former language knowledge base that was
 trashed along the way.

  Then there was the bone headed move of charging manufacturers for OEM
 player installs on devices until last year. Adobe could have owned the
 mobile interface market by continuing to give the player away for free,
 but... they outsmarted themselves by being greedy. Then there's the
 decision to skip working with Apple first for Photoshop releases Apple, who
 made Adobe successful in the first place.

  Adobe didn't do the existing Flash authors any favors by leaning into
 non-time-line Flash with Flex as the preferred authoring environment either.
  They could have brought all those time-line guys into the fold by offering
 time-line to straight code conversion as a feature of the formerly main
 authoring tool and taught all those folks what a correct straight to code
 translation should look like... they didn't, unless i missed something.

  Then there was the brilliant move of not killing off movie clips that were
 no longer in/on the time-line for several iterations of the player - how did
 that happen?!

  Fact of the matter is, there were cooler inventions/apps when the coding
 environment and player were simpler. The older apps ran more smoothly on
 lesser equipment and were more compact and quicker to deliver.

  Feature creep overwhelmed what used to be a stimulating and rewarding
 creative experience.

  Can Flash be fixed? Maybe. I tried an old app in the newest player the
 other day and it ran better than it has in years, must be the new hardware
 acceleration - that's a good sign.

[Flashcoders] Facebook API implementations

2011-01-14 Thread allandt bik-elliott (thefieldcomic.com)
hey guys

i have a couple of questions regarding using the facebook api that i'd like
cleared up if possible.

We're looking at settling on a set of classes to work with the facebook api.
We've previously used the set up detailed in
http://www.blog.elimak.com/2010/08/simple-connection-flashfacebook-using-the-new-graph-api/
and
it's worked fine, although there are a couple of hacks needed to get it
working locally (you need to log in and retrieve the token from the POST
variables using Firebug to be able to test it).

However, a bit of Googling around has shown that Adobe has it's own
implementation (http://code.google.com/p/facebook-actionscript-api/) for
facebook which i guess we have to assume will be kept more up to date if
facebook changes their api (which almost *never *happens [/sarcasm]). That
said, they seem to have swcs for desktop, mobile and web deployment and you
can't test the web version locally so we'd have to put the files on an
external server for testing (which is doable but a little time consuming
over the course of a project) or use the desktop (air) version for testing
and hope the web version works the same way (which sounds fraught)

I guess what I'm asking is, have you used the adobe implementation and if
so, what are the gotcha for using it please? Or would you recommend sticking
with the yoz.sk implementation as we've used it before. There seems to be a
lot of confusion on the intertubes so I thought I might get a more concise
set of opinions here.

thanks in advance

the xml that is being loaded is dynamically generated so we're going to try

It seemed to occur in a specific combination (swfobject and firefox).

 completing except if it contains a VideoLoader that is between version 1.73

 hey all

 just wanted to run something by you guys before i went to greensock. We've
 started using LoaderMax in house and we're starting to get some weird load
 errors (or lack thereof)

 we're adding everything into the queue manually, setting event listeners
 and
 starting the queue and everything seems to load twice but the following
 behaviour occurs:

 the queue starts
 several progress events occur
 then the application fails to get a complete event.

 we're getting no load errors, or any flash errors - the loader just fails
 to
 complete.

 here is the code
 [code]
 _queue = new LoaderMax( { name:dataQueue, onProgress:onQueueProgress,
 onComplete:onQueueComplete, onError:onQueueError } );

 _queue.append( new SelfLoader(this, { name:self } ) );
 _queue.append( new CSSLoader(  cssPath, { name:cssStyle } ) );
 _queue.append( new XMLLoader(xmlPath, { name:xmlData, noCache:false } )
 );

 _queue.load();
 [/code]

 be interested to see if this has happened to anyone else

 hey jack - thanks for the response

 the xml that is being loaded is dynamically generated so we're going to try
 turning the filesize auditing off to see if that fixes the problem - we're
 also going to change the http headers on the dynamic file to output a proper
 filesize.

 It seemed to occur in a specific combination (swfobject and firefox).

 I'll get back to you - if there is an actual bug / fix, i'll file it on

 Anyway, I don't remember ever hearing of a LoaderMax queue simply not
 completing except if it contains a VideoLoader that is between version
 1.73
 and 1.75 (those versions exposed a Flash bug in a particular scenario -
 long
 story - but it was worked around as of version 1.76). Your code didn't
 show
 any VideoLoaders, though, so I suspect something else is going on.

 I'd love to see a sample FLA that demonstrates the problem (the simpler
 the
 better, no need to see your production files). That'd really help in terms
 of troubleshooting.

 And of course make sure you're using the latest version.

 I'm sure we can get to the bottom of this once I see the sample file(s).

 PS The loading twice thing sounds related to file size audits - please

 we're adding everything into the queue manually, setting event listeners

 the queue starts
 several progress events occur
 then the application fails to get a complete event.

 we're getting no load errors, or any flash errors - the loader just fails

 here is the code

Hey jason

I think you're falling foul of the way that flvplayback creates new Video
objects every time you add a new stream without destroying the previous
streams.

You also cannot kill your last one if you only have one left which I think
causes issues like yours but I think you can use numvideos or something
similar to loop through the existing video objects to close their streams.

Sorry but i'm on my phone so googling around is painful but you should be
able to get something from this.

Re: [Flashcoders] Embedding Fonts, it should be easy...., right!

2010-09-15 Thread allandt bik-elliott (thefieldcomic.com)
i've also found problems if you don't use the actual names (which can be
viewed in the flash ide) for the font (which can be the same as long as the
weights are different and matching the names in )

here is a sample from a font embed class that i used on a recent project

note: the fontName for the regular and the bold are the same but the bold
version also has a fontWeight - i used the names for the fonts found in the
flash ide for each of the fontNames. Also, if these fonts are embedded in a
textfield in the flash ide and included with this use, they will cancel each
other out (like glen said, above)

[Embed(source = ../fonts/HelveticaNeueLTStd-Roman.otf,

private var _HelveticaRoman : Class;

 I would like to understand the real reason why Apple is backing off --
 as from what I have seen in the past, I can't believe it is for the love
 of developers..

  . Corporate pressure? (which has been hinted at).
  . Possibility of Federal trade restriction lawsuits?
  . possibly a lack of new *significant* apps, as developers began to
 consider other platforms?

 Personally, I am not interested in the iPad/iPhone as a target, until

  I would like to understand the real reason why Apple is backing off --
  as from what I have seen in the past, I can't believe it is for the love
  of developers..

   . Corporate pressure? (which has been hinted at).
   . Possibility of Federal trade restriction lawsuits?
   . possibly a lack of new *significant* apps, as developers began to
  consider other platforms?

  Personally, I am not interested in the iPad/iPhone as a target, until

Re: [Flashcoders] Best (fastest/memory efficient) way to animate bitmaps

2010-09-09 Thread allandt bik-elliott (thefieldcomic.com)
i was always under the impression that the best way of doing that (for games
sprite animations for instance) is bitmap 'blitting' where you use a
tilesheet and then use bitmap draw to pull the current frame you want to
show into your actual sprite

a quick search turned this up which looks pretty comprehensive:

  A series of memory cached Bitmap objs, swap them using
 addChild/removeChild
  (or set visible?) onEnterFrame.

  A series of memory cached BitmapData objs swap them by resetting

  Anything faster is nice too - particularly on mobile.

We’re excited to have your User Group join our program and to celebrate
we’re giving away FDT Pure licenses (normally valued at $129) to all its
members. FDT Pure turns Eclipse into a powerful Flex/Flash, ActionScript,
MXML and haXe editor providing coders with sophisticated coding functions
including:

   - Advanced Code Completion
   - Outline View
   - Jump to Declaration
   - Open Resource
   - AS2, AS3, haXe, Flex and AIR support
   - Creation wizards
   - Switchable Flex SDKs

[Flashcoders] [worked around] flvplayback fullscreen button

2010-08-04 Thread allandt bik-elliott (thefieldcomic.com)
hi

i've replaced the other instances of the flvplayback (that don't require

solved the problem. Not really sure what was happening but i suppose that
all of the flvplayback instances were trying to go fullscreen

 application running the fullscreen button just fine - this was before i had
 added a caption button and reskinned the fullscreen button). I've tried
 removing the captioning button and reverting to a stock fullscreen button
 with no success.

 i add the fullscreen button by waiting for a frame so all of the assets can
 initialise themselves and then using the following line:

 _video.fullScreenButton = _mcControls.getChildByName(fullscreenBtn) as
 MovieClip;

 i have several other flvplayback objects in the application and if i remove
 them, the fullscreen button works properly again (although the other
 instances of flvplayback don't implement any controls of any sort, including
 a fullscreen button)

 thanks in advance for your help

[Flashcoders] [SOLVED] flvplayback fullscreen button

2010-08-04 Thread allandt bik-elliott (thefieldcomic.com)
i've just found out what the problem was

i've reverted to my previous version of the cut down players (that use the
flvplayback component) and set fullscreentakeover to false (as it is in the
main player) and it fixed the problem - apparently when the fullscreen state
is called, all of the flvplayback instances will try to react to it in their
own way and if they are set to take over the screen, they will fight the
player we actually want to use if it doesn't.

ouch - 2 hours i'll never get back

Re: [Flashcoders] Question on variable init in a for loop

2010-08-04 Thread allandt bik-elliott (thefieldcomic.com)
no that's correct but id should be declared outside of your loop - as3 will
actually give you a duplicate variable error for putting it inside the loop.

you can also refer to your iterator (i) after the loop is done

i'd rewrite your function like this

var arObj:Array = [{},{}]
function test():void
{
  var id:String;

   for each(var i:Object in arObj)
   {
   trace(1 ,id);
   id = test + Number(Math.random()).toString();
   trace(2 ,id);
   }

   trace(i);
}

 I seems that 'id' is not resetted to null on every iteration as I would
 expect. I have to explicitly set the id to null myself! Does some know why
 this is, or are my expectations just wrong.

after a quick glance i'd recommend a couple of things:

see if you can break your application into smaller chunks that interact with
each other rather than have a single class - one of the benefits of oop is
being able to visualise the problem as distinct tasks that are handled by
separate objects (classes)

second is just naming conventions - generally only classes should start with
a capital letter - instances (like CityList and PhotoArray) should be camel
case (cityList and photoArray). My own personal preference is to prefix with
the object type (listCities and arPhotos), much like hungarian notation but
there's discussion about how relevant that is in these days of proper coding
environments with automatic code completion (like FlashDevelop and FDT).

It's also considered good form for method names to be verbs (getVariable(),
handleEvent(), completeSetup()) although many people like to make their
event handlers follow the form onEnterFrame() / onMouseEvent() (i use
handleEventname() for mine)

You should try to give values to your class variables in the constructor /
init method or when they're needed if possible. An instance of
myCloseBtn:Button that is added when the variable is declared and then is
never used is memory / cpu wasted

i'll be looking through the code a bit closer when i get a chance - i'm sure

another note on naming convention

it's fairly normal to mark private class variables out in some way (usually
an underscore before the name (private var _myVar:String;) and leave public
variables / getters/setters without - this will give you more options for
your variable names (within methods, for instance) and will help you work
out whether a variable is available outside the class at a glance

DynaBtn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_OVER,DynaBtnRollOverHandler(CityNum));

i wouldn't have thought it would (by using the brackets you are calling that

it should be

DynaBtn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_OVER,DynaBtnRollOverHandler);
}

private function DynaBtnRollOverHandler(e:Event):void
{
// handle event

and cityNum should be a property on DynaBtn so that you can use
(e.target as DynaBtn).cityNum
to recall the correct number

 It's not bad at all, especially for your first class. I didn't go
 through all your code, but one thing jumped out at me. These lines
 might give you problems:

 for(var i=0;iNumOfCities;i++){
  CityNum = i;
  var DynaBtn = root['city'+CityNum+'_mc'];
  DynaBtn.gotoAndStop(1);

 DynaBtn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_OVER,DynaBtnRollOverHandler(CityNum));
  DynaBtn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_OUT,DynaBtnRollOutHandler);

 First, you are going to have only one DynaBtn variable--the last one
 declared in the for loop. Each time you create an instance, it
 overwrites the last one. Fortunately for you, it works, but it won't
 always.

 The second issue is adding an event listener from outside the object.
 DynaBtn.addEventListener() will add the listener to the button, but
 you won't be able to remove the listener from outside the button.

 Instead, you should have a DynaBtn class, and add the listener in the
 constructor. Then you can remove the event listeners when you clean
 up.

 This applies, of course, to all the buttons you created.

 Nice job overall, though.

 Cordially,

 Kerry Thompson

[Flashcoders] FLVPlaybackCaptioning - nicer transitions?

2010-07-06 Thread allandt bik-elliott (thefieldcomic.com)
hey guys

hopefully this is just a quickie for the right guy - i am using
the FLVPlaybackCaptioning component to provide subtitles for my video but
i'd like it to fade in / out.

i've tried using the CaptionChangeEvent .added accessor but unfortunately
that is fired when the component removes the text from the field so i can't
then fade it out (!)

is there something else i could be doing ?

here is a snippet of the relevant code:

[code]

public class VideoPlayerView extends VBComponentView
{
private var _video : FLVPlayback;
private var _captions : FLVPlaybackCaptioning;
private var _tfCaptions : TextField;

private function initVideo():void
{
_mcVideoShell = new mcVideoShell();
addChild(_mcVideoShell);
 _video = _mcVideoShell.getChildByName(video) as FLVPlayback;

...
}

private function initCaptions():void
{
_tfCaptions = new HTMLTextField(model.css);
_mcVideoShell.addChild(_tfCaptions);
 _captions = new FLVPlaybackCaptioning();
_captions.flvPlayback = _video;
_captions.autoLayout = false;
_captions.captionTarget = _tfCaptions;
_captions.addEventListener(CaptionChangeEvent.CAPTION_CHANGE,
handleCaptionChange);
_mcVideoShell.addChild(_captions);
 }
 private function handleCaptionChange(e:CaptionChangeEvent):void
{
Debug.log( + (e.target.captionTarget as TextField).text);
Debug.log( + (e.added); // true or false
Tweener.removeTweens(_tfCaptions);
 if (e.added)
{
Tweener.addTween(_tfCaptions, { alpha:1, time:1 } ); // working fine
}
else
{
Tweener.addTween(_tfCaptions, { alpha:0, time:1 } ); // never happens
because text is already removed from _tfCaptions
}
}

...

[/code]

is there a way of turning off the default CaptionChangeEvent and go directly
to the cuePoints? or is there a way of stopping the CaptionChangeEvent
removing the text from the textfield?

hope you can help

I've installed SVN on a Linux server, and the client on Mac and PC.
I've never used the Mac as the host, though.

Here's a link to the SVN Mac download page:

Re: [Flashcoders] Dynamically Creating an XML Request

2010-06-16 Thread allandt bik-elliott (thefieldcomic.com)
there's this
http://www.adobe.com/livedocs/flash/9.0/ActionScriptLangRefV3/XML.html#elements()

http://www.adobe.com/livedocs/flash/9.0/ActionScriptLangRefV3/XML.html#elements()you
should also search for e4x wildcards

if you want to search for a list of nodes that have a common attribute it's
like this:
var list:XMLList = xmlData.nodeNames.(@attributeName == attributeValue);

i believe you can get a complete list of a nodes elements by using a *

var list:XMLList = xmlData.nodeNames.*.childNodeName;

although if you just want a list of children you can use .children()

var list:XMLList = xmlData.nodeNames.children();

there's also the descendent accessor which will return a list of
all descendents regardless of parent
var list:XMLList = xmlData.nodeNames..childNodeName;
http://www.adobe.com/livedocs/flash/9.0/ActionScriptLangRefV3/operators.html#descendant_accessor

i don't really know what you're trying to do to be honest but you should
find something useful in these links

 Has anyone experinced something like this or is there something which i am

i think that adobe should concentrate on 2 areas - the air runtime for
application development and the canvas tag for web deployment

at the sxsw conference, the adobe flash guy was getting a lot crap over the
canvas tag and he eventually responded with the none-too-indecipherable
statement that 'adobe makes tools' - they will go where the money is and in
the future that will probably be sans-plugin for the web at least

 Very insightful - a specific technology makes that technology dwindle, it's
 an unstoppable force. Adobe is more loose footed than Apple in the current
 bruhaha - creating the 10.1 player to work well across a variety of devices
 vs a locked down business model. Consumers and Adube won't give a f**k
  whether the creative output from their products is through HTML5, the Flash
 Player or some other technology.

 That said, if WebKit works identically across platforms, Adobe has nothing
 to lose by adapting the products to target it. The only way I can see this
 making sense for Apple is if they're aiming to eclipse Adobe with an
 authoring tool. And if it exports to Android, RIM, etc, well I'll adopt to
 it. But it seems to me Adobe is ahead in that game.

 Absolutely. Where HTML5 can replace Flash, it should. I have no
 problem with that. I actually think HTML5 is pretty cool. I just dont
 think it needs to be an either/or question, and find the
 struggle-to-the-death approach that Jobs is championing ludicrous, and
 find alot of the Flash is dead because... statements to be based on
 false assumptions. Yeah, of course, if you ban it from devices, it
 will die, but that isnt exactly allowing the technology to evolve
 organically. Bad technology dies under its own weight. No one needed
 to drown Netscape or Director or Cobol in the bathtub in order to get
 rid of them. If Flash's day is done, it will die soon enough on its
 own. All Jobs has done is convince a whole swath of decision-makers
 that Flash is toxic and shouldnt be touched, even in cases where Flash
 is actually the superior option, and thats just a shame. How many game
 developers are now being asked We want to do something like
 http://www.gettheglass.com/but NOT in Flash, because Flash is
 dead. You can do that in HTML5 right? And it needs to run perfectly on
 the iPad.

 If you want to continue on that tightly-coupled path, I would store a

 temporary reference to parent to load the new child.

 The design I would choose is to create an event that is broadcast from
 child1. In the parent, I would add an event listener to child1. When the
 event fires, unload 1 and load 2 from the eventlistener in parent.

 OK, I see. Well, first, iTunes isn't all that compelling for me (on

 dislike iTunes, because I have frequent sync problems with my 3G iPod.
 But that's neither here nor there, I guess.

 Android doesn't come with anything for this out of the box. You just
 get the phone, and no desktop software. But DoubleTwist is a good
 solution. Also, it's dead simple to just mount your Android phone as a
 generic USB storage device. Finally, there's a plugin for iTunes to
 let it work with Android phones:

 I haven't used it, so I don't know how well it works.

 I installed DeMonster debugger a while ago, and it seems great for run-time

 But I'm such a noobie at ActionScript that what I currently need are good
 compilation error texts--which the Flash IDE does offer, sometimes.

 I'm not quite at the stage where run-time debugging is an issue, so mired
 am I in the writing mechanics of compilable code in ActionScript.

 But the Flash IDE is just too slow to be anything but deadly dull
 concerning coding and debugging.

 So I think I will give FDT a try. And use DeMonster for run-time debugging,
 possibly, depending on how it stacks up against FDT run-time debugging.

 Many thanks for the suggestions.
