We are currently looking for a senior flash developer The Salary is between 35K - 40K. Yeah, good luck with that. It's a seller's market right now. I wouldn't take a senior level position for less than $US 85K a year. ___ Flashcoders@chattyfig.figleaf.com To change your subscription options or search the archive: http://chattyfig.figleaf.com/mailman/listinfo/flashcoders Brought to you by Fig Leaf Software Premier Authorized Adobe Consulting and Training http://www.figleaf.com http://training.figleaf.com

Reverse the math from London at $80K. NYC: $69K, SF: $52K Both of which are far less than what a senior level flash dev should be making in this market. It doesn't work that way. You don't spend all your salary on rent, food and restaurants. Computers, cars and so on typically cost about the same as elsewhere in the country. And don't forget you (hopefully) don't actually spend all of your salary, but save some for retirement, which could be anywhere. Also, the page you linked to links to another study, where London is only at 100.5 (NYC: 100): http://www.citymayors.com/economics/expensive_cities2.html Maybe London is full of qualified Senior Actionscript Developers who just don't feel like moving to NYC. Re: [Flashcoders] Senior Developer Posisition
If you got paid $80K USD per year in San Francisco, another expensive city in the US Interesting that San Francisco ranks at #34 together with São Paulo. Uh? So, say if a senior Flash dev earns an average of US$ 80k, so should a senior Flash dev in São Paulo, right? That'd be R$ 168k, or about R$ 13k a month (13 salaries per year). I'm living in São Paulo, but i'm not working for local companies, so i might be wrong, but from what i hear senior Flash devs here rarely make more than R$ 5k a month, i even heard of Flex devs here that make less than R$ 3k. R$ 5k a month would roughly translate to US$ 31k a year. Or maybe I'm just too cheap. :) Also, this looks pretty strange: http://www.citymayors.com/economics/expensive_cities2.html There's no way in hell Rio de Janeiro as a higher living cost than São Paulo. Also, SF is not listed there. There are two lists apparently? Anyways, there must be a lot that's not taken into consideration on those surveys, while some things might have a much bigger influence. For instance, in Brazil, for transportation (vehicles + fuel) and computer hardware, you'll be spending a lot more than you would in, say, USA or Europe; however, you'll be spending a lot less with housing, food, and clothes. So it's not something very easy to compare, specially if you use computers on your work (when much of your costs are the same all over the world, if not more expensive even when you're living on a 'cheaper' country). RE: [Flashcoders] Senior Developer Posisition
Ok, so you've pointed out the issues with the various online Cost Of Living Comparison Calculators I used to derive those numbers (I used two different ones and took the average). That's all well and good and I certainly can't defend any of the numbers since I was just putting them up as an example and I have no clue how accurate they are. I'm glad you pointed out the discrepancies, though. Keep in mind these aren't my figures. I wouldn't vouch for anything found on the internet, I was just passing it along as a rough estimate. The bottom line is it's a $78K USD/year position in one of the most expensive cities in the world. It's only less expensive than a few cities in Asia and is far more expensive than any city in the USA. Can we all agree on that and not bother with which city should be ranked 34? ;) The question at hand is whether you think $78,000 USD per year is a competitive salary for London. Given the current market demand for and the scarcity of truly Senior level Flash developers, I think it's a bit low, though I might negotiate for a little more for the opportunity to live in London for awhile if I had never been there. ;) ___ Flashcoders@chattyfig.figleaf.com To change your subscription options or search the archive: http://chattyfig.figleaf.com/mailman/listinfo/flashcoders Brought to you by Fig Leaf Software Premier Authorized Adobe Consulting and Training http://www.figleaf.com http://training.figleaf.com
