I would think the built-in ByteArray.compress would be much faster than 5-10
seconds for a simple 100k string. But if it doesn't work, a really simple
method of "encrypting" a string is doing a bit-flip on each character ...

I've tried different compressions classes - they're just too slow (even with
some I tried that throw "chunks" of data at the class in intervals, it still
took 5 - 10 seconds.
And yes the purpose is to make it unreadable.

Why do you need to encrypt it? If you just need it unreadable, then why not
kill two birds with one stone and compress it?
