Yes, code in the button class should stop it. I just wondered if the animation was creating individual instances and that was causing it to hinder the buttons is all. I guess they're still playing. They won't stop just because the parent has stopped. If they are movieclip acting as buttons, at some stage you've told them to play. You do have a "stop()" in them to stop then cycling, don't you?
