Hi Paul, I've recently played around with Drupal as well because it's open source, built on PHP/MySQL and I've seen AMFPHP, SWFaddress, SWFobject modules for it. HOWEVER -- I started messing with Drupal 6.3, since the latest version is Drupal 7, but quickly realized that if I wanted a fuller list of free 3rd party modules I might have to use Drupal 5.x (5.8 last I heard). Depends on what you need to do. And depends on what you are able to do. I do prefer setting things up in a clean way and develop from scratch. Some prefer using already existing systems and try to modulate / alterate / integrate. (Joomla or Typo3). Depends on your (or your team) skills and on the time you have for developpement. I think you are still better off rolling your own CMS (again: depending on the application's goals). And by experience, regarding the application's evolution, taking over a custom CMS or a 'standard' CMS 's data is just the same. There are some Flash CMS, though I can't remember their names. They should pop up in a few moments as a reply to this thread (hopefully) ;) I share the same feeling as you do. I think this depends on the developper. Some prefer using already working systems. Others prefer rolling their own. In the end this is all about the scope and how you structure your application. We normally use our own CMS running off MySQL, however, we have worked with Alfresco as well. XML makes things pretty easy to integrate although there are always hiccups you'll face. Thanks for your response! As I see, Lenya and OpenCMS are both 'html' CMS. Now what I'm trying to do is flash based CMS. For example: Start CMS, select a template or start with a blank. Drag a textbox to stage, edit content, edit styles. Drag a picturebox to stage, set url image or upload the file. Insert an external movie file, drag the movie to a desired position. Save. And then, generates/writes swf file (possible?) or generate a template-like swf file linked to a file (XML - database) with information about content (images, movies, text, coordinates). Later, re-login and edit the contents or add 'user restrictions to page' module, whatever. What do you think? __ Claudio M. E. I didn't find a trial version on site :( . http://www.10cms.com/ looks fine, but I don't think the project is active, since website says that trial registration are full and there's no price. I've found a .NET library that creates swf files. This could be the solution to 'save' the created files. So, I still need the GUI (in flash). Snepo was the one i waas looking at! It looks interesting, i didn't realise though that it was one where you could update content directly through the flash app.. I was actualy looing for a simple kind of admin interface which rather than writing content to the database, stores files images etc. into a directory structure and writes xml files for flash to then read in. thanks for the link though, i will check snepo out for another project i have. Eric, I'm not sure what you mean by 'not right'? The downloadable versions of Depot have no such restrictions. The demo is currently not working as we have been moving servers though al demos are available within the download. Chris, At the moment depot stores data (any native object) in a balanced tree which isn't in human readable form. We are looking at implementing a 'retrieve as file type' function as well as tools that marshal Depot data into readable objects. We welcome any feedback on how Depot may be improved for specific tasks/project requirements.
