Jim, I just did something similar, but in AS3, to insert some CDATA into some
preexisting xml.
var createCDATA:Function = function(cont:String):XML{
return new XML(![CDATA[ + cont + ]]);
}
var _item:XML = item{createCDATA(some text based content)}/item;
