I don't think it's a bandwidth issue - well it might be - because with
the videos that seem to stutter, I have paused them to let the "download
bar" fill for testing and still had the same problem. So I am guessing
it could be my computer, looking at FP's recommended requirements, it
would do 480p, should do 720p (my PC benchmarks better than some 3GHz
models without overclocking) and may struggle with 1080p which is okay
because my monitor ain't that big...

Btw, i couldn't agree more for today's fwa award. It's an experiment not a
website!

I commented on today's winner because it hung for about 30 seconds,
threw an exception and did not work, besides having text too small to
read. I don't mind seeing "experimental" work, as long as there is some
merit in having it included. What irritates me increasingly about FWA
is the apparently shallow approach to "judging" the sites - when I see a
winning site that is broken, I wonder if there is just a computer
somewhere picking random entries rather than much human "testing"...
That's why I am not always convinced it's my computer that's at fault
when visiting FWA sites that don't offer a "smooth experience".

"Websites at the cutting edge" - it's only a small slip from "cutting
edge" to "bloody cheek".

RE: [Flashcoders] Flash Video jerky - slow pc?

2009-11-02 Thread Merrill, Jason
We found a similar problem just today with some video and found some
people had recommending setting the buffer settings for the video
playback to wait a longer period of time - longer than the default - say
3-4 seconds. The problem people had related to network lag - might help
in your case.

Subject: [Flashcoders] Flash Video jerky - slow pc?

Hi,

I am running into some problems watching Flash video on a couple of
sites listed on thefwa.com and wondering whether it's my PC / the site,
or Flash itself..

I tried to watch the video on http://www.lech.pl/ and just end up
with jerky / jittery playback, even when the video "download" bar is
most of the way across.

Not sure if this is the implementation / my PC, but I tried in a
couple of browser, full-screen / windowed and it made no difference. My

PC is a 2.4Ghz P4 + 2GB Ram + 128MB graphics so getting a little old,
but has always been okay until seeing these...

Is this just another example of FWA's willingness to award sites
that may be interesting visually but often lack "tested, working,
bug-free" code to back it up?
(Check out today's winner if you think this is unfounded criticism).
