you should always specify the `spipseed` parameter to `linux_spi` as
well. The default has changed in Linux and is too high now for most
flashing applications.

Maybe you don't have enough power for this soic 8 chip, or too long wires?
Could you please tell us the markings written on a chip, to confirm if
it is among the chips supported by flashrom?
