I've discovered that if you load an invalid source into the
VideoDisplay it will no longer work even if you change the source to a
valid one later and will get the Error:1000 if you try to issue a
Play() command.
Might be a clue on how to work around your video problems. And of
course if anyone
Is there way to dynamically extend a component instance that is
already created?
Basically I want to to store a couple additional properties in a
component. I know that I can create an extended class that will work
if I create the component from it.
However is there a way to do this
Thanks Gordon,
Is there a way to turn a TextInput into a TextInputSpecial at runtime?
Or a way to say all mx:TextInput .. tags use instances of
TextInputSpecial instead?
Initially I wanted to have some variables available in a change
handler so I could pull it out by event.target.myExtraStuff,
I imagine this is something simple that I am missing but is there a
way to test a variable to see if it exist.
Specifically I have several components with IDs. So I can access them
like this.idName or this[idName].
I need to way to know if this[idName] is a valid variable. I've
tried
There appears to be bug in the way an embedded =8 flash file works in
Flex. Sometimes they are not able to load external assets (jpegs).
Look here:
http://www.campusvt.com/embedBug/
There are 6 instances of mx:Loader all loading the same SWF.
The SWF contains a thin white line and a picture
trying to get these new features approved, and
I'm cautiously optimistic. Stay tuned!

What is the best way to embed a SWF created in Flash 8 or earlier into
a Flex app?
I've tried using the image and the loader controls.
They both appear to work the same. I get an error that says:
ReferenceError: Error #1056: Cannot create property _th_ on
_testEmbed_mx_managers_SystemManager
(hopefully in the next less-than 10 weeks no promises)
where we've really gotten that code back up-to-snuff.

Thanks Matt,
That makes sense, basically you are just telling the HTTPService to
use myXmlConvert function to convert the object into XML. I thought
HTTPService might have had a built in way of doing this conversion.
I understand I can write my own code to do this but I would rather
learn how
