Yeah, that was my problem. works in Fx3, but you need
in Fx2 :)

DropShadowFilter is under the flash.filters namespace, not mx (Flex). The
dropshadow is definitely available in Flex 2, and even implemented in almost
all of the default skins :)

Having some issues (as usual)
Back story: I got a "beta expired" message on compile, which led me to
discover that I was targeting the v3 SDK for some reason. Anyway, I changed
it, and now I can't use the drop shadow filter?
Is this a Fx3 exclusive? I'm sure I've seen drop shadow filters
