Re: [flexcoders] Starting a Project Now! FLEX 1.5 or 2.0?

2006-03-20 Thread Richie Rich
Hello people,

Thanks for all the input on this topic. I am fine with the Flash
Player 8.5 issue as I will be controlling access to this first project
and can supply the users with the correct player.

The second project will not launch until the end of the year at best.

Now as far as the High cost of FLEX. We are already a member of
the enterprise solutions and the development program with Adobe and We
have already made the choice to partner with Adobe on various other
software, So I do not think we should have a problem with FES.

Although I would like to see a bundle created with FES, Media Server2,
ColdFusion, and Breeze. LOL

 Hello all,

Besides required * HIGH* licensing cost of Flex 1.5 software, which is
immediately no-win option for most of independent developers and small

the nearest future of Flash 8.5 player?

ARE you all OK with a fact that your Flex 2 based web application
launched in the summer 2006 will require from almost 90%-95% of your
potentials visitors to upgrade to
Flash 8.5 player prior to the launch of your web application?

Re: [flexcoders] Flexbuilder 2 memory usage :o

2006-03-20 Thread Richie Rich
The System memory requirements for FLEX 2.0 Beta1 is 1GB I am hoping
that is just for the beta and when we get the final product it will be
more RAM friendly. I am sure this is the case - just as with every
beta they are able to reduce the size of the SWF that are being compiled.

I always use the plug-in version and the memory usage is about the

What helps is to turn OFF the automatic building, it really helps.
Otherwise you get random pauses which are quite anoying.

I have 1GB RAM but I run other IDEs and tools at the same time so it

Does anyone know if it's possible to strip down Eclipse to the bare

Or is there a way to modify the Flex 2 or Eclipse JVM installtion to
reduce memory usage?

Just curious ... I know RAM is cheap :)

[flexcoders] Starting a Project Now! FLEX 1.5 or 2.0?

2006-03-18 Thread Richie Rich
Hello,

I am starting a project that I would like to finish this summer. This
is a prototype project, when finished will morph into a bigger project.

Would you start in FLEX 1.5 and port it over to 2.0 when it is
released or would you use FLEX 2.0 and work through the work arounds
and wait for features to mature?

Any thoughts or insight?

Rich
