[flexcoders] Gumbo: Can't Interact with children of an ItemRenderer
I thought this would be pretty easy but I'm running into all sorts of problems with this. I have an ItemRenderer with a an image and two labels. I want to assign separate mouse events to the image and two labels. It seems like the item renderer is treated like a single interactive piece and I haven't found a way to override that. I couldn't even disable the default rollover effect so I had to style the rollOverColor to match my background. [flexcoders] Gumbo downloadable API docs

I have not used fx:Application before; is it not s:Application? You can use anything to the left of the colon you like, as long as you declare the XMLNS at the top. Sure but I would not ;) 1. I can compile in Flash Builder 4, using the old (2006) mxml namespace (at the application level); switch that out and try to use the new namespace - or a combination of the two, and no dice. It is not expected that you can just change the namespace and compiler and have it work, as far as I am aware. Sorry if I gave the impression that those were my expectations, as they are not. My point, not well made :), is that I believe this is not bugs on Adobe's side - or at least not just bugs on Adobe's side. 2. A bit of scouting pinpoints the issue as being where degrafa has things like Rectangles and Matrix3D, which have equivalents in Flex 4, but are different - in terms of their property names, and sometimes operations. 3. Degrafa do not claim to support Flex 4 - only 3 (and perhaps 2, I cannot remember). I suggest you ask them about their Flex 4 plans then. They probably have a beta program or something. Yes, I will do. I thought of asking the wider community first before going direct there. Cheers Tom. [flexcoders] Gumbo Graphs
Hi, I have been using data visulization tools based on Degrafa - my own, things like Birdeye, and more recently Axiis. Cool, but none of them work in Flex 4/Gumbo - because the current version of Degrafa is not meant to be used with Gumbo. So, I am trying work which of the following options to pursue: Swap out the Degrafa part for a self-built FXG graph engine - which will take a fair amount of time. Wait for a Gumbo updated version of Degrafa - anyone know if it is being updated for Gumbo? Take a look at any open source data visualization efforts targetting a Gumbo release - again, anyone know if there are any? Use the native Flex 4 data visulization suite. I have a Flex Builder 3 Professional license, but have not yet used it to get the Flash Builder 4 extension; is it the case that this will remove the 'trial' notice or will that only be the case once Flash builder 4 is out of Beta? Thanks in advance for any answers.

Hi Tom, I have not used fx:Application before; is it not s:Application? I am not so sure that it is bugs in Flex 4 that are causing the problem, because: 1. [flexcoders] Gumbo Issue - crossdomain.xml due to missing Content-Type
Hello -- Spent hours on this and combed the web as well as this forum. I have a simple php test app that I built in Flash Builder beta. It works on localhost. However, if I try load the page from another computer I get a 'send failed'. In serviceCapture I see that I am getting this error: 'Error: [strict] Ignoring policy file at http://localhost:/crossdomain.xml due to missing Content-Type.' (I have a well formed crossdomain.xml file at my site root with --for testing purposes- very liberal policies). When I load crossdomain.xml in my browser directly, it shows a header type of application/xml, which is on the header white list. Am I missing something obvious? I really appreciate any insight. Thank you lrlarson nyc

[flexcoders] GUMBO: Is it my code or do the STATES have bugs?
I have these two components (large callout and small callout) and they can both be displayed on the main stage at the same time via clicking a marker. If you click on a blue marker you get a large callout. If you click on a red marker you get a small callout. Should be fairly simple , right? Well, what is happening is that if I have either type of callout open small or large, having clicked on a marker, and I click any other marker, blue or red, nothing happens. The new callout won't show up. Sometimes it shows up as a dot, like it started to be placed on screen and other times nothing at all appears. But as soon as I close the first callout, which is already opened, the second callout appears on the stage. What is interesting is if I take out everything out of bigbox (inside largecallout) and everything out of smallbox (inside smallcallout) then this delay doesn't happen. --- LargeCallout - ?xml version=1.0 encoding=utf-8? fig:CalloutContainer xmlns:fig=com.adobe.wheelerstreet.fig.callout.* xmlns=http://ns.adobe.com/mxml/2009; xmlns:mx=http://ns.adobe.com/mxml/2009; xmlns:gumbo=library:adobe/flex/gumbo mouseOver=handleMouseRollOver(event) mouseDown=stopProp(event) mouseMove=stopProp(event) creationComplete=init() xmlns:components=com.company.networkmap.view.components.* mx:Script ![CDATA[ import mx.messaging.AbstractConsumer; import figit.vis.data.NodeSprite; import mx.events.FlexEvent; import mx.collections.ArrayCollection; import com.company.networkmap.view.components.Sparkline; import com.flexcapacitor.controls.HTML; import com.wrapper.base.application.*; [Bindable] private var _origWidth:Number = 300; [Bindable] private var _origHeight:Number =170; [Bindable] private var _maxedWidth:Number = 600; [Bindable] private var _maxedHeight:Number = 450; [Bindable] private var _showMinMaxButtons:Boolean = true; /* AUTOCLOSE -- if set to true (default) clicking x will remove this instance from its parent */ public var autoClose:Boolean = true; public var device:String; public var node:NodeSprite; // BINDABLE VARIABLES [Bindable] private var _title:String = title; [Bindable] private var _nodeMinFirstLevelDataObject:ArrayCollection; // 2nd level data is only available/shown for networking devices. Re: [flexcoders] Gumbo / Flex 4 release date estimate?
To elaborate on Matt's post. Adobe (Macromedia) have traditionally had an 18 month release cycle. Since Flex 3 was released about a year ago [give or take a week]; you can add 6 months to today's date and that puts us in the beginning of September. Releases often (but not always) coincide with some event. Are there any major events around that date? If I had to give you a gut feel, I expect we'll see Flex 4 shipping at Adobe Max 2009. Im trying to do something, fairly simple, at least I thought it was. I need to setup some type of generic Keyboard listener for my application. Then within my application, various classes need to listen for keyboard events and intercept them. I can't get even a basic example to work, my only success has been achieved by placing a button on the stage, clicking the button, then I get keyboard events, but once the button is removed or even hidden, no more keyboard events. Anyone help me with a generic keyboard listener that I can attach to various classes? Regards Dale Fraser

[flexcoders] Gumbo on AIR
Hi, is there an AIR SDK/Runtime that supports the new Gumbo/Astro features? Thanks, Haykel
Re: [flexcoders] Gumbo on AIR
Nope, Gumbo requires the Flash Player 10. Currently, there is no AIR version which supports this player.

RE: [flexcoders] Gumbo
No breath-holding, please... Gumbo isn't even alpha yet and we haven't announced any ship date! But you'll be able to watch us develop it checkin-by-checkin, and try it out. You can build it now, or download builds. We worked on a private branch for a few months while we figured out the high-level goals for the Gumbo release, but now everything we're doing in the Flex SDK is being done in public. Nice to see the recipe being altered to taste. This shows some good cooks in the kitchen.
