Tkz i will check on Lynda ;) Bottom Line, you in general advise .NET to fill out the blank between flex and MSSQL. Okidoki , i think too.. Ps: I have tried ColdF. mx7 and i have to say that's was really simple connect to the server , run querys and that on Builder, i just cant understand how to parse the data to Flex, its by the RemoteObject right ? oh well.. but the fact i cant have a login form by CF, only in the administration (i think:P) was disappointing, make things insecure.. The CLR is Microsoft's Common Language Runtime. It allows for language interoperability (write components in one language, use them in another, as well as many other benefits). The most common languages used with it are C#, Visual Basic, and managed C++ (probably in that order - I use C#), though I believe you can use more than just those. [flexcoders] Re: Connect and Retrieve from MS SQL Server 2005
I can tell you what I am doing... using different versions of SQL Server as backend (SQL Server 2000 and 2005, MSDE, and Express, and MS Access): * First: SQL 2005 Express does NOT support web services endpoints only the full versions do. * Keep SQL server hidden (either via firewall and perimeter network, no remote access, windows authentication, etc.) * Data is read written via ASP scripts (classic or .NET) which run under IIS * Flex/Flash client use HTTPService to POST requests to ASP scripts * ASP scripts handle sessions and authentication (you can either trust IIS session management or write your own, e.g. using encrypted cookies) Maybe this works for you too... --- In flexcoders@yahoogroups.com, Ray Horn [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Yes, but doing what you suggest means you must expose your database server to the outside world and for some this is simply unacceptable. - Original Message From: Paul Wright [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: flexcoders@yahoogroups.com Sent: Thursday, April 5, 2007 9:02:44 AM Subject: RE: [flexcoders] Re: Connect and Retrieve from MS SQL Server 2005 This is a bit off topic The quote from this article regarding SQL Server 2005 HTTP requests (http://msdn2. microsoft. com/en-us/ library/ms345123 .aspx) that is relevant here is Any device that can parse XML and submit HTTP requests can now access SQL Server. [flexcoders] Re: Connect and Retrieve from MS SQL Server 2005
Woohoo, this is actually a question I can answer on flex coders :). Connecting to SQL Server 2005 works really well in flex. You will have to build a webservice in vb.net or C#.net to do this. Fortunetly there are VERY VERY good tutorials on how to do this. As far as exposing it to the outside world you can write ur webservices so that people have to have a certain username or password to connect to it. I think you can also do things so that only local apps (like ur flex application) can access ur webservice and not outside apps. I haven't looked into doing this though. First off, http://www.asp.net/learn/videos is ur friend. I recommend taking the time and watching the series SQL Server 2005 Express for Beginners Second you are going to need an IDE to make the webservice. Luckily Microsoft offers a free one at http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/express/vwd called visual web developer express. Download that and install it. Third, Lynda.com has an excellent video series on advanced Flex development. In chapter 11 of the video it tells you EXACTALLY how to make a .NET webservice and how to get the data into flex. The guy shows you two ways, one really simple way but slower way. And one slightly more complex but very very fast way. This video cost 99 bucks though! I think it is WELL worth the price. http://movielibrary.lynda.com/html/modPage.asp?ID=290 That should have you making flex apps that connect to SQL backend. You have to put in some time and a little bit of money to watch all those videos though! Ill be checking this string regularly if you need any more help. One of my future goals is to make a series of blog posts on how a .NET developer can move to flex. Right now I don't have the time though. -Nate --- In flexcoders@yahoogroups.com, Ray Horn [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Yes, but doing what you suggest means you must expose your database server to the outside world and for some this is simply unacceptable.
