I would use the editField() method to update the dataProvider as you go.
When you are ready to submit, iterate through the dataProvider, check
the value of the field you updated with editField.  If it is true, push
an element on a new array. Submit the new array.

Or, create a new submit array on initialize, then add or remove elements
as needed from within the cellEdit handler.  Then it will always be
ready to submit.

Are you trying to pass a list of the ones
that are checked or just one? Your changeThrusts method can simply store which
checkboxes are selected and then you can build an array to pass to your web
service for the query. If only one of those checkboxes is meant to be checked
maybe you should look into using RadioButtons instead and then take advantage
of RadioButtonGroup.selectedData.
