Have you recalibrated using the Amp
calibration routine into a dummy load? Also does the Tune setting give you the
indicated power output?

Art,
Do you have a 100W dummy load? If so, have you tried calibrating the PA
using the PA Settings Tab on the Setup Form?
The calibration isn’t perfect, but it should be within ~5W or so
around 100W output.

Please see the Operation Manual on the

Well, I went looking in the operating manual and the quick start guide
to find the write up on how to find the optimal line in gain, but I
couldn't find it (something I will be addressing here for the next
revision of the manual).
The procedure goes as follows: With the radio on and running, mo

Great article Frank. I hope more radio amateurs realise the importance
of Free Software movement and how similar it is to the spirit of
amateur radio.

Larry,
This is almost assuredly a calibration issue. Note that with the Extigy
(and all other supported cards besides the Delta 44) you have a Line In
volume that you will need to adjust for the optimum dynamic range BEFORE
calibrating.

Steven,
Based on your description of what you are looking for and your computer
experience, I don't think you'd have any problem running the radio.
Like others have suggested, if you are concerned about the complexity of
the software, just download it and give it a whirl.
Note: If running the Pow
Thanks much for your comment Cecil, and especially for pointing out the

Larry,
Its also a good idea to go into the virtual memory setting and
configure the max/min sizes to the same value. Something in the range
of 2x - 3x of your actual installed RAM is a good starting point.
That will keep Windows from trying to dynamicly resize/reallocate the
swap file.
