Thanks, all! I seem to now have what I wanted. With a couple of dabs of
code, I've added a K1EL option to the
Setup/DSP/Keyer/Connections/Primary combo box. When I select that and
have my K1EL WinKey plugged into the back of the SDR-1000, I have PTT
driven by Ring and the tone keyed by Tip. [I had

Hi Stan,
this is a common problem for a group that is distributed around the
globe. No matter what time you pick someone is going to have an
unsociable time.
I really think the answer is to always have the meeting over a weekend
and rotate the time for each meeting so that that it is not the
I bought a used SDR-1000 . I'm trying to figure out how to assemble the
enclosure. The mechanical part is not the problem, but a few pictures on the
wiring would be nice. I would like it setup in a standard configuration so
if I add any options later I won't have to rearrange anything. I was
On the enclosure assembly instructions I found this ...

It appears that I'm missing several parts to complete the assembly.
Now I also need to find out what ECO's have been done, or what I need to do.
My serial number is 30215...

You are indeed left out this time. We just cannot make a time to suit
everyone's needs. So I think the approach being adopted is to move
around the time. As always, the audio will be available afterwards.

I will respond since I have been quoted.
First as to my experience. I have been a ham for 43
years, and I have been able to copy at least 5 wpm
code since I was 7 years old which is when I first
took my novice test. I have come up through the ranks
using discrete RX TX rigs like a Viking-2 and

So Bob, howcum ur not on 2M where you can immediately hear the results of your
nightly (or midnight plus) coding efforts? You can give the Elecraft FT-817s
to the XYL.

As the saying goes, a .wav file is worth a thousand words, or in this
case about 360 KB. Building on Bob's comments below I have gone ahead
and recorded a small sound demo of my SDR1K running with the K1EL
K40 keyer interfaced to the COM1 port.
I am running the new keyer code with high

Those that take the trouble to read me blog over on hamsdr know that I'm
struggling on 30 meters.
The issue seems to be antenna related.
I put up a 30 meter dipole this weekend and it's just about the noisiest
thing I ever put up, I'm discovering.
Now, usually, a decent antenna, a resonant one,

Could be several things...
Bad balun (I assume it is a 1:1)
Bad coax
Bad connection(s) (antenna elements to balun, coax center conductor to
PL-259, coax shield to PL-259 barrel, bulk head connectors, coax
jumpers, etc...)
Bad coax switches

The notion that verticals are noisey and flat tops are
quiet is a myth. My verticals are far quieter than my
flat tops in general. I would throw away the balun,
throw away the coax. Go to radio shack and buy
yourself some 300 ohm foam twin lead for 10 bux and
run that to your tuner. The stuff
Dear Flexers, forgive the same question again,
but I can't search the archive to find the
answer.
There are inexpensive (free?) versions of the
Microsoft compilers. Looks like there is C#,
C++ and VB. Can any of those Express versions
be used to compile the console?
