Curious, was the amplifier designed so it could handle Class A
operations? That is a lot of steady heat compared to AB class.

Cecil,

Assuming one plans to drive a linear with the rig in class A, current rigs on
the market are rated at 200 watts in B or AB, and 75 watts in class A.
Examples: FT-1000 Mk V or FT-2000D.

Hi,
I am selling my SDR-1000 to raise cash for the 5K. It has a PreSonus
Firebox, a 100 watt amp, built-in antenna tuner, USB to parallel
converter. RFE board and a poor man's UCB controller. It works
perfectly; there are no issues. All cables included. It has the 4
pin Mike connection.

Hi Chuck,
I have seriously considered separating the hardware from the software and,
as you suggest, producing a hardware manual and a common software manual.
However, there are a lot of subtle interactions between the hardware and the
software and, in fact, a fair chunk of the software has
Hi again,
The more I play with my new 5000a the more I like it.
Just now I changed to 40 meters and engaged the Noise Reduction. The radio
again began to chop at a very fast rate. I played with the settings but
didn't seem to get anywhere. Any advice would be appreciated.

John,
Try increasing your buffer in the Audio Tab.. And make sure that the
FireWire settings are set to Safe Mode 1,2,or 3 and that the buffer is
set to either 1024 or 2048.. Reloading the FireWire driver for any
reason will reset to Normal
Also check your DSP buffers in the DSP Tap,
Using VAC and/or VCOM is an _option_. Neither is actually _required_.
You have other options: For awhile, I ran PowerSDR and my SDR-1000 on
one computer and used audio cables and a serial cable to interconnect
to a second computer on which the logging and decoder software was running.
