I've seen similar issues here, but haven't had time to fully characterize
them. I just noticed something interesting though. If I enable RX2 with
the RX2 preamp turned on, the noise floor is different than RX1. If I then
turn the RX2 preamp off and then back on, both receivers show the same n

Hello Mark,
Your receiver noise floors should be pretty much identical IF you are
using the RX2 Input for RX2 rather than the RX1 Tap. I believe the RX1
tap introduces some attenuation because it is passively splitting the
signal, so you're going to have a little loss because of that. For the

Hello Eric
Thanks for your kind reply.
If you mean the FLEX-5000_Driver_v3.4.0.4877, I have just installed it.
With firmware I think you mean the F5K_firmware_1.3.0.0 that is to be
installed ?

Get rid of your PowerSDR data base file and start fresh. If that doesn't do
it, then do what Tim suggested. The radio does its calibration itself so the
most you have to do is hook the radio to a dummy load push the button and go

I'd run the calibration again (it only takes a few moments) using PowerSDR

buffer size and antenna selector items modified). If you are still having a
problem, contact Dudley to see what might be going on.

Tim,
I just received the 5000A from Flex yesterday and they recalibrated
both receivers after repairing RX2. Furthermore both receivers show
exactly the same reading when connected to my a signal generator as long
as the input level is above the noise floor of RX2 ie -114dBm. The

It is not necessary. Every version of PowerSDR installs itself in a separate

No need to uninstall old versions of PowerSDR (unless you just want to). In
general, it's a good idea to keep the previous version around just long
enough to make sure there's nothing that you don't like about the new one.

Hi.
My Flex 5000A is running with PowerSDR_V1.16.1 at the moment.
Shall I uninstall this before updating to PowerSDR_v1.16.2 ?

You need to run the RX1 and RX2 level tests to calibrate the both receivers to
the same signal levels.

It sounds similar to the problem I had - due to my own stupidity. I'm at QRL
now, but on the main SDR screen under the CW are there is a variable form QSK
interrupt time, or something similar. It was set for 50ms and simply
lengthening that solved the problem.
But maybe not the same issue.
