I didn't need to use the configuration software for the KRC2. I just set the
jumpers on the board

My MOTU, M-AUDIO ProFire, EMU, Yamaha (etc) gear/drivers are all subject
to drop-outs with high DPC's *when very low ASIO latencies are set* .
I don't know anyone's 1394 driver code that couldn't stand improvement,
so I don't think it would be fair to say Flex was alone in this.

that I not use HRD but switch to mini-deluxe which I did. DM780 receives
