I have the circuit board and parts kit ordered for the ARRL Homebrew
challenge amp that was featured in QST a few months back. Will boost me
up to 50 watts on 80-10 meters. The resistors and caps are SMD's but
they are supposedly a big enough size to hand solder. Won't be my first
experience
I can't imagine ever operating a radio again without a panadapter!
and
once you go Flex its hard to go back to the old knob
+1.
True story:
I sat down in front of a Yaesu FT DX 5000MP at my local HRO just a few days
ago. There was an Italian station calling CQ NA slightly off frequency.
I second (or third or umpteenth) the motion. Once one becomes accustomed to
the panadapter--or, in my case, the panafall--everything else seems
so...yesterday.
Even other implementations are seldom anywhere near as good. The K3 is a
very fine radio but its little add-on panadapter is a sad joke
I know what you mean, I would never want to go back to a regular radio.

I’ve had many different QRP radios over the years but the 1500 is amazing !!!
The panadaptor is fantastic and helps whether in a contest or DXing. Now that I
run the 1500 with a separate computer (from Neil , K3NA) the latency is in the
teens and CPU usage is about 15 to 20 % . Its now a top
Tough FMT. I was having trouble calibrating my 5000 to my satisfaction
before the test and bailed out of participating.
Had something else to do that was pretty important.
Just saw the results and it appears that Doppler was terrible which probably
explains my calibration problem. Scores were
A related, dumb, question...
If one takes a 10Mhz standard and uses it for the signal as well as the
local reference, should the DDS offset be 0 ?

Has anyone written a white paper on the tools/techniques for getting best
results in an FMT?

Lots of info at Connie's website www.k5cm.com .
For best results, find a way to disable the Doppler error during the test :-)

Like a lot of other material in this general area, things have been written,
on Connie's site and others, that are easily understood by people who
already understand them. In 30 years of teaching graduate students and
directing their research, I have found this an extremely common phenomenon.
Flex 5000A New - w/ RX2 - worked great for about 5 days and then...
Receivers dead - tried different ANT inputs, reboots, new PowerSDR Software -
nothing.
Get static, PowerSDR working. Transmit works.
Using it with Mac/Bootcamp/HRD Alpha 9500 and Heil Mic
Seemed to go out on a band change

I've had several inquiries about this amp since I mentioned it in my
last post. I responded directly to all of them but thought I would post
this to the group to cover all bases.
This 50 watt amp project was the winner of the last ARRL Homebrew
challenge. There have been two runs of the
Close, but it may not be exactly a 0 DDS offset. My 5000 needs -2 and my 1500
needs +3 to be dead on frequency with a Rb clock.

If you want maximum accuracy, you want to set the offset to zero but then

John,
To test the RFIO board, move your antenna to the RX1 In BNC on the rear,
then set the RX1 to RX1 In in the Antenna menu. See if the RX comes back.
If it does and should you go back to Ant1-3 it is still dead, then the K1
in the RFIO has failed. Nearby ESD might have gotten to it..
