Gerald,
Sounds great to me. This makes clear the difference bwteen the experimental
SVN and the Offical Release, and allows support to focus on where it is most
needed---to get people up and running on their Flex radios. Also, as has
been pointed out, the experimental versions are, by their

I bought my 5000A over a year ago, and I did have some dropouts at first,

Altough the bands are poor I have occasionally overloaded my system and had

problem if I was pushing too close to overload).

Robert,
There is one potential problem with laptops. Some of them have relatively
poor Firewire controllers. My Dell XPS M1730 has a decent one, but when I
used a long firewire cable (3 meters) I had some instability. When I added a
Belkin Expresscard Firewire controller it calmed down
Bob,
Thanks for the update.
The Flexradios and PowerSDR just keep getting better and better. Thanks to
all the people who are making this so.

Al,
I was the last one to post a review (positive) on eham. I did so after I
felt I had something to add to what had already been said. Perhaps many
people do not want to simply repeat what others have said no matter how good
it is.

Hi,
I am using the Belkin Firewire 400 Expresscard Part # F5U505. See

I got it from the Superwarehouse at:

Gerald,
Great news. I love my 5000A, but especially in today's economy many hams
may not be able to afford it. The more hams who can begin to experience the
fun of FlexRadio SDR the better we all will be. Just hope you and FlexRadio
can find enough good new people or you will loose the 2
I have been having a great deal of fun just using my 5000A the last few months
after getting everything working well with my Notebook Computer. (Incidentally
although things work o.k. with the built in Firewire Controller I did finally
get a Belkin Expresscard which was well worth it.)

Thanks Bret (and Rob as well) for helping me. I was trying to use the keyboard
rather than the Numeric keypad.
And yes, I would like to see your improved keymap Bret, though at present I
have things set the way I want them for a start.
Indeed you may want to make it available to everyone.
I have found the keymap settings useful for most of the functions I want, but
cannot get the AF gain settings (- and +) to work, and do not even find any
settings for AGC-T level. Anyone know the keystrokes for tthese functions?
Thanks.

Hi Mike,
I have used both the adapter and dedicated 6 pin to 4 pin cables. Both
work. Yes, I would add RF chokes. RF on that line can cause all sorts of
problems.
Although my laptop built-in Firewire port worked fairly well, I finally
decided to add a new expresscard Belkin Firewire adapter
Alan,
I use a Heil Pro Set Plus HC4 element and the DX/Contest EQ setting on the
console. Stateside stations have told me it sounds great for DX with good
punch. And it works. I got Randy V73RY in the Marshall Islands on 20 SSB
during his last hour of operation before he left for the mainland.
Larry,
I am using a new Dell M1730 XPS notebook running XP Professional (I think
Dell still has them with XP). It does have a 4 pin Firewire connector but I
find the 6 pin to 4 pin cables work well, as does a 6 pin to 4 pin adapter I
got from Radio Shack. It also has a CardBus slot and so I

Good points. At a more basic level, as a new user of a Flex 5000A I have

I am using the 5000A trying out MixW and it seems to be working well. One

I have set up SDR using MixW with no trouble. I like HRD, but I am having

is a problem in setting up the proper COM Ports in VCOM. Exactly
