Re: Michael, W4HIJ - Amp options for 1500 As for amps for the 1500 I'm running a 12-year-old used Palomar RFL-TX2290LD amp into a LDG Pro 200 autotuner which was originally sold here in Canada by RadioWorld to a local ham.
Output varies by band but the amp puts manages 60 watts or so on 160 reaching about 100 watts on 20 and falling back down to 50 or so at 10 meters. Seems clean with 5 watts drive and runs only slightly warm under heavy use. The amp has a four position power switch and very aggressive, useless switchable receiver preamp. Suspect this was originally aimed at the CB market as it's pretty much plug and play. Got it and a smaller autotuner and a almost-never-used mint Drake 2-B receiver in a swap for some old film camera equipment. Still saving up for a better computer for SDR :) as this will fix most of my outstanding minor issues when operating in contests.
