I use the SK-220 Soft-Key shown here, with my Heathkit HL2200 and Flex
5000a:

They worked out some original issues with the 5000a - - and you should
ask about this when ordering.

Don and Steve. It's not even that good Steve. I popped the port 1 antenna
relay by using a 12v supply to switch a small 12v 2a reed relay. Because the
relay driver transistor isn't protected by a diode, the second or third time I
keyed my amp buffer relay, it took out the transistor. I know I
I've been using a very simple two transistor interface with all of my
recent vintage radios. If anyone wants the info, please e-mail me
directly e...@n9mw.com. There should be an article in QST with this
design pretty soon.

Don-- I haven't seen an answer to this yet, so I'll take my best shot
although there are better experts than I am.
For my Flex 5000, the voltage limit is 50vdc, so 120vdc would smoke it.
Maybe did you mean 12 vdc?
Current is 400 ma so the 100 ma would be OK. I don't know what the
limits
By far if in doubt, use the buffer relay!

For those who are interested here is what I have found out about keying an
older tube type amplifier.
In the case of the HL-2200, the relay has about 120 VDC @ 100 mills
present.
From the manual for the Flex 3000, page 6 the following information :

I just don't understand this aversion to a set of relay contacts rated
at 250 VAC, 220 VDC at 2 A inside the 3000? You can't get much more
robust and isolated than that unless of course the contacts were rated
at 500 volts at 4 amps!

This keying line, which can be

I understand what you are saying.
But at this point I need to standby and let someone else explain it.
My knowledge is not sound in this area.

From what I have read in the manual I should be able to do a direct connect to
the keying relay circuit in an HeathKit HL-2200 amplifier.
The keying relay has about 120 VDC at 100 ma. on it. I just wanted to check
here an make sure.
Also does anyone know that device is being use to obtain

I've had my SDR-1000 for 3 weeks now, and have not been able to resolve
an issue with regards keying my Amplifier
Initially I connected my Amp keying line to Pins 7 and 15 on X2. As soon

Hi Dave,
Could you please describe in more detail how you've
connected the relay and external diode to the X2
connector, and where power for the relay comes from?
That would help us understand what the cause of your
problem might be.
Thanks!
