The point I think you are trying to make is that the validator still 
has squawks.  The proposed fix *does* make IE6 happy and linux/firefox 
still works.

No. The point was that the validator complains about the missing type,
which is apparently a *BUG*. So the most obvious thing to do would have
been to fix the bug in the html page and then try again. Of course, if
there's a bug in IE6, too, ... (who would have thought?! :-)
 

Well given infinite time you are of course right, but given that I'm 
struggling with a dead machine at the moment, I don't have infinite time 
(and my patience is all but used up) so a quick solution is what we get 
for now.  I'm happy to take web page patches in the future ... but I 
can't deal with them right now.

No. The point was that the validator complains about the missing type,

Actually not. Curtis forgot to add the following line to the header 
section of the page:

meta http-equiv=Content-Script-Type Content=text/javascript
